The top feature I use on my Apple Watch is notifications but the next one is Apple Pay and I don't see Apple allowing Android Wear devices access to Apple Pay. I assume you can use Google Wallet but I dont' know what type of traction Google Wallet has on iOS.

After thinking about it more, I have to apologize for my replies about this story.

I'm glad that there is more choice for those who don't like the apple watch and like the look of android wear. Like other say, more choice is good.

It's all good. Android Wear benefits from Apple Watch due to increased public awareness about smartwatches in general, and Apple Watch will benefit from healthy competition, driving Apple to innovate more both in terms of style and function.

You know, I'm not a big fan of android but I clicked on here to see if the Apple fanboys and fandroids would duke it out. Boy, I was not disappointed! Just wish I weren't on the train so I can pop some popcorn. Hang on...there's a dining car! Brb...!

you can thank Apple for that one

The functionality of Google Watch will be on par with Pebble's watches due to the restrictions in place by Apple's iOS.
If you have an iPhone I don't see the point in this if you can't even reply to a text with a simple ok

I guess if you just want notifications this is cool if you get the cheapest watch

android pay is coming out shortly and should support most of the new android wear smartwatches that are coming out this fall if they have nfc built in. However which ones actually have nfc built in I am not sure. I am not sure of one at the moment the does... but that can't be true for long.

Thats basically it. it's just an another option. The Apple watch is a nicely built smart watch, but for $350+, it might be significant overkill for what many people are looking for. Not everyone is going to care or benefit from the full power of it, and that price makes it hard to buy in for just simple notifications. Plus, the aesthetics is subjective. By allowing Android Wear watches to work with iOS, now iPhone users have the choice to use a smartwatch with different looks, instead of everyone wearing the exact same.

its just the simple "Having choice is good, even if not all the choices are equal"

So now Apple users can have a proper smartwatch! Nice! Moto360 here i come! :D

?

I haven't heard anything impressive about any Smartwatches at all yet, whether it's from Apple or any other company. What leads you to deem that the Moto360 is a "proper smartwatch"?

Apple should never allow any android POS watch be available to talk to any iOS device.

So that all those living in countries where the Apple Watch hasn't been released yet would have only Pebbles available for them?

EDIT: Just read your apology, it's cool

Goes against the whole "Android phones are about choice."

With an iPhone, I haven't limited myself to only choosing phones running Android. And now, I get a much wider selection of smartwatches to choose from. Lovely. :)

not sure I follow that snub on "android phones are all about choice." Considering this expands choices.... for IOS users who want an Android Wear watch. And Android definitely offers choice in devices.... by a landslide over 2 annual iPhone options. 2 new Android options come out every week. It's comments like this that make everyone outside the walled garden hate apple users and have spawned the term appholes. With an iPhone you actually have limited yourself quite a lot in quite a lot of ways.... and I don't know how anyone can justify a comment implying differently. What you do get with an iPhone is a much more custom (and curated) experience that is easy to use and elegant in most of its execution across other Apple devices. The trade off is lack of options in models and features. For a larger number of people, that's fine... and the iPhone is a great device and its ease of use and feature set are more than fine for most people. But as far as choice goes.... you're at the mercy of what Apple gives up. I can't wait to see what "new" features Apple gives you this year that have been on Android for years like they do every year. And if I don't like the way my phone does something, I can easily install something that will allow it to do that without a war.

I loved my iPhone... debate going back sometimes, but at the end of the day, choice is why I don't and why 80% of all smart phones in use are not iPhones. Why can't it be as simple as what works for you work for you, and that be okay without stupid fanboyism on both sides of the camp?

Respect to them for doing this at least, I can't imagine Apple would even consider making Apple Watch Android compatible

The moto 360 has been a critic and user fav or smartwatches since it's release. It's simple to use. Does what it does well. A lot of the watches lack heart rate monitors, which the moto has and for it's price is a good deal.

I still cannot justify almost any smartwatch out there when it relies on a connection to the phone, which you already have on you and that does every task 100 times better than said watch, but for price and ease of use, the moto 360 is a stand out in the market.

I'm still really surprised at the learning curve and how much more complicated the Apple Watch is to use than it's peers, because that's Apple's calling card. Elegant in its simplicity and your grandma can use it, which is not the case for the apple watch thus far, but hopefully the next update reigns in some of that. Android wear is surprisingly easier to use, but for another change of pace, less feature rich.... also not the norm between Apple and Google. Google usually trumps apple on features but a lot but has the higher learning curve.

They are cheap. That could be a reason.
They're not all cheap, at least not the newer ones. LG Urbane is the same price as Watch sport. Huawei Watch is rumored to start at $300. Perhaps the Moto 360 will continue to be cheaper but it also has that unfortunate black bar, which for me ruins the look.

'Compatible' isn't an outright lie, but it's not the truth either. You get notifications and Google apps. No replying to texts from the watch. No answering calls. Just a notification it's happening on your phone. Not a patch on the functionality of the apple watch.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'd love to be in this case. I read the verge piece because I was excited and was just underwhelmed.

Did you read the article? "Android Wear for iOS does not support existing Android Wear smartwatches such as the Moto 360 or Samsung Gear models."

But you didn't read the fine print that said, they usually will work if you do factory reset.....
The 360 runs the latest version of Android Wear. There is no real reason it won't work. Not supported and not working are two completely different things.

I'm still trying to understand exactly what this learning curve is with Watch. After I set mine up it took maybe 5 minutes max to figure it out. I've had mine for about a month and nothing about it confuses me. Can you explain what exactly is confusing about Watch?

Android is googles trojan horse to get data from you to provide ads for stuff you like. Nothing more. No offence but anyone dumb enough

I wouldn't buy any android device at all. I don't want google to succeed as all they want to do is get all the info from you and shove ads in your face and make a bleep load of money from your info.
please dont troll. people like you are the disease to the Apple community. we better be good without you trolls

Because people are silly and want to justify their purchases to themselves. I'm on your side. What works of you works for you. The more tech out there, the better each bit of tech will be.

I remember rumors of this from early April, so I wonder what took so long. And will iOS 9 break functionality?

I don't like round faces on smart watches and the only Android Wear smartwatch that I thought was kinda good looking -- checked out a Moto 360 for a few minutes only -- was meh. My LG G watch is okay. If I get a other smart watch, it'll probably be the 2nd gen Apple Watch.
