Very good points. Not to mention the pebble is really showing how outdated it looks. Just a few months ago it still did not look that bad IMO, but now, after the apple watch, it looks 10 years old.
I liked the B/W version, but when they went to the color display it actually made the watch look more dated to me. It has the CGA graphics look...

My friend, you really should stop dissing round watches, because you're gonna look bad when Apple makes one to compete with Android Wear :) We went through the same silly debate with smaller tablets, larger phones, multitasking, widgets of some sort, notifications, etc. It's getting old.

Not to mention that the 38mm Apple Watch shows less text than the 42mm, so that argument is also bogus.

However, I do think your constant comments about Android Wear needing smaller versions (for women, for example) are right on the money, and I fully support you on that.

To answer your question, the top usually shows the sender.

Notice that Android Wear round watches sometimes show MORE text than the Apple rectangular face, because its reply menus are on another page.
I'm pretty sure the "Reply" button is at the bottom of the notification, regardless of length. I can't seem to send myself a message to test that though.

I like circular as a watch, but not for anything textual-- and I think that's where the conflict of interest arises in the design. The Wear text is forced to a rectangular form factor within the circular display. I thought that bad design until I thought it through: if you filled the display, you'd have to either stretch or rewrap the text as it scrolls up making it hard for the eye to track.

It really comes down to whether the square is in the circle, or the circle in the square. The 360 and others put a square text window in a circular display, but uses the full circle to show the watch face. The Apple watch puts a circular watch face in the square display, leaving the corners for complications, and then uses the full square for text and other info.

I think circular is more of a classic watch look, while square is a better use of both display and wrist area-- the watch can hold more information while staying physically smaller.

In my case, I have the black watch, so the square outline isn't a silver border around the round face when it illuminates.

Droid-Life got it to pair with a Moto 360. Some others got it too pair with other watches as well. I'm going to try with my LG watch to my wife's iphone 5.

This look does nothing for me and on my tiny wrist it would look ridiculously big. Also I don't like how jagged the text looks near the edge of the display.

I LOVE THIS news. Choices for consumers is great. Not to mention that this will light a fire under Apple to really go out an innovate to the next level. Personally i prefer circular watches but the apple watch has grown on me. This is nothing but great news to consumers. Now im interested to see how this works with the moto 360 v2.0 or the huwaei watch. Had this come out earlier no way i buy my apple watch but again its growing on me.

And iOS is Apple's trojan horse of locking you in their ecosystem so you have to pay hundreds of dollars more on hardware than you otherwise would do.

It works both ways.

What are you talking about? How is that a "trojan horse" when you buy into Apple's ecosystem voluntarily?

Do you have a picture of this actual watch versus this PR photo? Does the actual watch face look exactly like what's in this photo? IMO these watches never look quite as good in real life.mostly because in real life it looks like a bright electronic display whereas the press shots make the display look more like a traditional watch.

To me Watch press shots and the device in real life look much more alike.

Personally, I'd like to see third party smartwatches on the iPhone, gives more choice and hopefully increase competition.

The day someone comes out with a reasonably priced smartwatch that can receive/answer calls/texts over wifi with decent battery life, I'm buying one.

I see lots of people on this thread excited about the prospect of buying a smartwatch with limited functionality on iOS. Makes no sense whatsover. Part of the appeal of the Apple Watch is how seamlessly it integrates with iOS...Android Wear will not be the same experience, by a longshot.

Thanks. No I don't go on Android websites. I'm the guy who keeps telling people it doesn't matter which phone they choose, but gets sick of the people who use #AndroidMasterRace with comments, and who say the iPhone is ****.
So it doesn't matter what phone folk use, but if it's not an iPhone you think they have made a mistake?.. Does it upset you if folk say a galaxy s6 is sh#te ?..

It really comes down to whether the square is in the circle, or the circle in the square. The 360 and others put a square text window in a circular display,

More like they use a square text window that's clipped by the circular edges at top and bottom, similar to the way that text is squarely clipped in the 38mm Apple Watch (as compared to the 42mm), only less so, since at least some text is still visible in the upper and lower curves.

(above: Apple 42mm vs 38mm.) Dissing round watches for clipped text is like dissing 38mm Apple watches for not showing as much as their bigger brother.

Of course clipping is not a big problem in real life for either the smaller Apple watches or round watches, since most watch text is short anyway. If it's not, you have to scroll on ANY shape display.

The Apple watch puts a circular watch face in the square display, leaving the corners for complications, and then uses the full square for text and other info.

The round watches give a full analog clock face to the display edge, and put the complications inside where they traditionally go. It gives the best of both worlds in the case of the primary display.

However, many people these days cannot read analog watchfaces, so even having one is off their list.

for me, price, and looks.

I think the urbane looks much better than the cheap versions of the apple watch, the other day there was a deal that I could of gotten it close 200, didn't take advantage because I thought it was android only, the Apple watch you need to spend close to 700 plus to get a nice looking watch, 500 plus price gap for something that is just an accessory is a big gap in price.

Apple did not want to allow this. However, the Antitrust Regulators watch everyone these days. It's going to be very interesting to see how Apple addresses this. Could hurt AW sales quite a bit if allowed to continue.
I agree with this, but only because "could" is non-committal and "AW" is ambiguous.

This may or may not hurt either Apple Watch or Android Wear.

We need to introduce you to something called freedom of choice. Apparently you have head your head up something for the past 10 years. If you don't like something you can buy something else. So stop complaining cause choice is better for everyone. Not everyone wants to buy a square watch. I personally don't like the apple watch looks and especially the cost. If I can get something that costs less and looks better then everybody wins.

You have freedom of choice now, don't you? You're free to by an Android device and use all the smartwatches you want. How is that not freedom of choice?

no. ios apps are sandboxed. that's why you can't attach anything other than picture with email. thats also why you dont have access to the GBs on your phone. its simply artificial restriction imposed by apple.

What on earth...what is 'access to the GBs'?

You can attach anything to an email. No idea what you're on about.

And so does the LG G Watch, I just tried with mine. As long as the watch is running the latest Android Wear, it should be good to go.

Can you update the the software even if you dont have a Android phone? Like if I went out and bought one of the LG Watches today but it didnt have the most recent OS installed, how does it update?

You need an Android phone or an Android emulator to update the OS.
The iOS Android Wear app will be able to keep the watch up to date after you get it connected.

One of the main reasons I have at least one Android phone around at all times.
You never know when you'll need it.

Gotcha, so I will wait till the Moto 360 v2 comes out, I love my Apple Watch but love the choices the Android Watches give when it comes to faces, and I think some you can even have the display on longer and will be nice for days I want a round watch.
