Awaiting the flood of hateful sexist male fanboy comments...

Fyi she's quite accomplished but will be belittled by males regardless of her accomplishments . Like it or not the tone is different if it were a male in the same role.

Why would you wait for something like that when you are demonstrably able to produce sexist comments yourself?

And also, it is a commonly known prerequisite for those that work at Apple to have their genitals ritualistically removed so as to achieve the most efficient, asexual corporate synergy possible.

Ahrendts will help Apple move forward and transition into a luxury lifestyle brand because, like it or not, computing has hit a big plateau and focusing on style and fashion will keep people buying while the underlying tech is basically moving ahead slowly. You don't get huge, iPhone level, leaps forward very often. Much like buying a new car....basically its all bells and whistles and that's enough to keep people wanting to upgrade. Probably the huge feature of the iPhone 8 will be in an innovative re-design not a quantum leap in the underlying technology in terms of providing substantial new utility beyond the current scope. People want Star Trek Willy Wonka type fantasy innovations and those are rare. If you need a good camera you're better off just buying a digital slr...much better and cheaper in the long run. Angela is exactly what Apple needs to stay in the game and keep Apple moving along.

Angela Ahrendts is the highest paid, most important, and most powerful woman executive in the world. I predict that someday, after the Tim Cook era, she will become CEO of Apple.

She was the fifth highest paid female executive in 2015. That being said, all of the executives at Apple are powerful and I'm sure one of them will be the next CEO when Tim Cook retires or leaves as they like to promote from within for the CEO post.

Just imagine if Apple replaced Ahrendts with the In-and-Out Burger heiress. Apple and In-and-Out both like the color white and have simple menus.

Double double (Mac),
GPU fried,
extra RAM

Buying from Apple is pretty annoying now. Their new stuff is sold out for months, you can't check the in-store availability for iPhone unless you're an upgrade member, and their stores are basically empty of new product as well. Super lame.

But that's Jonny Ives job as creative designer ? She can have input into watch band colours but is that worth a 10 mil pay check ?

There are a lot of whiny little girls complaining about supply chain logistics that she has zero control over. Also, the stores are much better than they used to be... they used to be God awful.. The online store is easy to use now versus a year ago. She's done very well. Btw, not being in stock and being high demand is a good thing. It's good for a thriving company to have a product that popular. People need to learn to be patient

Love all the armchair quarterbacks here. Apple seems to be doing fine without any of you at the helm.

On this past Saturday I had reason to stop in at the Apple store at my local mall to get something I needed.....the place was a zoo! I really felt for the Apple employees. There were people in there looking at and fondling the new iPhones on display, there were people hunched over MacBooks and MacBook Pros, there were people waving sheets of paper to prove that they were there to pick up their preordered new iPhone..... Fortunately, the store had set up an "express lane" for people like me who weren't there for an iPhone and who weren't there to contemplate purchasing a new iMac or MBP, but simply to grab and pay for an accessory..... I was really relieved when my transaction was completed and I could get out of there!

whoever decided the ugly kmart looking floors in the remodeled stores was a good idea -- ugh terrible choice.

The physical Apple stores went downhill after the iPhone. Not really because of Apple, just too many people in there. It is like going to Walmart on Black Friday.

It's really based on your location and demographic. Apple Stores in my area really are not that populated. Even the same employees I see regularly comment on how they transferred from other stores, which were way more hectic from where they were prior.

Dear CM,

You should realize that that's not the responsibility of the vice president of retail. Having enough products ready for sale and in the supply chain to maintain enough product to match anticipated demand is the job of the Chief Operating Officer.

Angela Ahrendts has done a fantastic job of refreshing the retail experience beyond the original successful first decade. Given the relationship Apple customers have with the brand and how stores were used, they should become places to learn and be inspired and not just showrooms and shelves with product.

Coming from the fashion world, she was the perfect fit for Apple in a time when computers are becoming ever more personal, in shift that leads the company to where fashion matters. Apple has always been a fashion company, not just as overtly in the way as we're seeing now. We're only going to see an increase in personalized Apple products to fit the individuality of each person. What better person then to be in charge of retail than the former CEO of a wildly successful fashion brand?

Good essay, now back up what you say. What has she done to improve the experience? And does it matter if the products aren't there to back it up. The only change i noticed is the reduced lines, which I like because it addresses the whole scalping issue.

But fashion company? Macs are about technology and supposedly improving our lives through proprietary technology. Personally I do like it when technology looks good but if it doesn't have functionality, it's useless. This is the same garbage that brought us the one button mouse, that even Jobs admitted was a mistake. It's like iOS 9, which took aesthetics over functionality making the music app almost unbearable to use.

I see the Apple remote for the Apple tv4, which originally had one of the worst user experiences of any Apple product in recent times, and only became functional after someone decided to rethink the damn thing. It did look good, but was useless to use.

But then you have the other end of the spectrum with the immensely fashionable iphone extended battery case. Apple's most fashionable product yet. I won't go into the macbook one port thing or the Apple watch, that most people have criticized enough here.

I think Jobs did a good job of balancing form and functionality, and no one expects perfection but lately it really doesn't seem Apple under Timmy O-tool can't get anything right. Personally I'm so disappointed that after being an Apple Customer for more than a decade, I'm starting to look at other companies.

Which brings us to Angela. So to be honestI don't know what refreshing experience you are talking about. For 10M a year, sure let her play with the lay out of the store. Just seems like Tim doesn't know where he is going, just like the gold watch that only lasted one product cycle.

Just a question, do you work for Angela?

Apple stores didn't need trees, or genius groves, or to become social gathering places that aren't called 'stores' anymore. They were nice places to shop and get AppleCare - until Angela came along and decided to make unneeded changes for the sake of change. In the process, she eliminated most of the accessories and the few that remain are all in boring boxes that all look the same. I don't know if their store sales are down but I sure don't spend $$ in there like I used to. There's nothing left to buy - except walls filled with iPhone cases. I think Angela's next stop should be out the door.

Apple literally got one if not the worst online store i have to use. Takes forever to find what you are looking for and if you change your mind and feel like looking up something else it takes just as long to simply go back. worst of all when it comes to anything Apple Watch or add-ons

the combination of product page and store is an abomination

Try Verizon Wireless's site. Its equally horrible.

Yes. I remember when Steve Jobs introduced the MacBook Air, pulling it out of an office mail manilla envelope before an auditorium full of people at the 2008 MacWorld keynote conference. Super thin, one USB port, 2 GB of soldered RAM, an 80 GB 4200 RPM spinning hard disk, and with a very underpowered CPU that overheated. For $1,799.

Are we talking about the same Steve Jobs with respect to doing a good job of balancing form and functionality, getting it right?

Also, does denigrating Tim Cook's name (Timmy O-tool) really help make your case? Or does it just help you to feel better?

Dear Angela,

The strategy to announce new products with zero inventory seems like a really bad strategy. AKA, the watch 2015, AKA the jet black iPhone 7. That strategy will see more of your title dropped is my guess.

Thank you,
CM

Assumingly your still bitter about the Gen 1 Apple Watch Preorder? Appears so.

I will say this — Apple Stores have been turning into real dumps. (At least, the ones in Tokyo have.)
Are you talking about the Chinese scalpers buying iPhones in bulk? :D
Tokyo is okay I think. It's expected for locations in dense big cities just like the stores in New York. The 5th ave store imo is even more packed.
Can't wait for one to open in Singapore (and see how packed that would be... LOL)
