Not sure I understand moving the power button to the side. Is there a reason, or moving it just to move it?

Well, the phone will be taller so if you have small hands it will be difficult to reach the top of the phone. If it's on the side, it will be easier to reach.

Aww, I don't know about the side power button, I always found the top button easier to reach and access compared to other phones with side power buttons. Also I really like the circular volume control's..

maybe they will have right handed and left handed power buttons! lol

Well, it easy to use any hand to reach the power button if its on the side. It's just a matter of using your index finger or thumb. Whereas, its not as easy to use either hand (using the left hand is much easier) to reach the power button at its current location.

;)

This makes me sad.

The power on top looks classier and is, but I understand the reasoning.

Side power button is due to the fact that the device is going to be significantly bigger. Rectangular volume buttons are due to the fact that the device is going to be significantly thinner. Whether you like them or not, you have to get used to them, or go elsewhere.

I suspect the power button on top became harder to reach with the phone size becoming larger.

Likewise, with a thinner phone, there would no longer be enough space for circular volume buttons.

I haven't done much comment reading on the forums lately, but am I the only one who thinks the power button needs to remain where it is?! I've been used to pressing that button the last 7 years... Don't change this!

The button on the side makes ergonomic sense. It puts the sleep button right where your pointer finger is is you're right handed or where your thumb is if you're left handed. When the bigger one comes out it makes even more sense to have it on the side.

It's a PITA. It's right where you accidentally hit it ALL THE TIME. However it's too early to tell if Apple is going to move it and if they do, will it feel right.

Aside from a potentially shifted power button, I do hope Apple and other manufacturers have taken note of just how much better the HTC One from last year (and thus the M8 too) is with front-facing speakers. It's almost unreal the big players have not followed suit. Make those fat top and bottom bezels less useless.

The power and volume buttons being level to each-other reminds me of the oh-so-useful Apple Mouse side buttons...

I also wonder what the significance of a more-accessible power/sleep button is. You press the home button in a lot more scenarios, and now it has that nifty Touch ID built into it, but in comparison you aren't usually sleeping or powering your phone down nearly as often. And having it more accessible puts it "in competition" with the Touch ID ring that Apple made so much noise about. So... hmm.

Some mention due to the size of the device. May also be necessary to move it due to the change in camera optics since the camera currently sits just below the power button. Improved optics and optical image stabilization may require more space in that region meaning the need to move the power button.

I would say that it's more likely a combo of that and they could be moving it to make it a modular repair. Right now if your sleep button breaks you have to replace the whole phone which is lame.

Unless you want a decent camera (you need iOS software for processing

Have a look at the camera comparison of the current major smartphones available. http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/C...LG-G2-Nexus-5-Sony-Xperia-Z1_id3653/page/7#2-

Galaxy S5 - 8.16
Galaxy S4 - 8.0
LG G2 - 7.66
Xperia Z1 - 7.66
iPhone 5S - 7.33

Unless you want the best apps.

Very subjective. All the major apps are available on both ios and Android with none or very little difference. Can you set a new app such as messenger, keyboard or broswer to act as default on ios? Can you share content amongst all apps on ios?

Unless you want the most efficient and battery friendly software,

Lets look at some more stats with real life usage ;)
http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G2-battery-life-test-long-live-the-king_id50808

LG G2 - 6hr 48min
Galaxy Note 3 -6hr 8min
HTC One - 5hr 45min
iPhone 5s - 5hr 2 min

Unless you want the most dev-friendly and supported software

Proof?

This is what I'm thinking… last year case leaks came about 2 months before release if I remember correct… seems like they were in August with a September announce. But I could be remembering wrong?

Or analyzing wrong.

Everyone wants the press of being first. Thus they are releasing their guesses way earlier than before to beat the other players

I hope the power button is not opposite the volume buttons. This can be very annoying when you power off the phone while trying to adjust the volume.

I think I'd prefer the design of the device not look god-awful, and don't say it wouldn't, because it would. Those phones look embarrassingly bad with the inclusion of that.

These rumors are coming fast and furious, does that mean an update sooner then later?

I think they are bringing the launch back to the June cylces. Where the phone will be available just after launch or within a couple of weeks.

They can't bring everything out in September like they did last year.

Except for the last phone launch in June, iOS 4 beta was announced in April. No one is expecting an iOS 8 beta until June. So that would mean the phones ship with 7.x software. Seems highly unlikely, especially considering there will probably be new features that require iOS 8 to work.
