So why do people think we're getting new phones this summer then?

I understood your post wrongly, sorry mate :)

"Are we really to believe Apple will release a new phone at the same time they announce iOS 8?"

I meant "no, never" to that.

The taller the phone, the harder to press a button on the top. I like it on the side for larger phones, never have problems accidentally pressing it.
yeh I way prefer side button my Sammy phones. Hate top button, on a small phone like the iPhone it was ok, larger phones not really, never accidentally just hit it anyway. Just too used to side power button now, I had a loaner HTC OneX waiting for my S5 to come in since my S2 drowned in water (go fig with the S5 being waterproof now) and the top power button annoyed the heck out of me all week lol.

Looks like we have seen almost every part of the new iPhone. Only thing left is the launch on a stage.

Apple needs to do some work on maintaining secrecy!

Subjective comparison. I'll stick to Anandtech reviews for my info and compare from there.

Quite a detailed comparison if you read the entire article, testing all phone cameras against the same criteria.

How is the phone arena article a "subjective comparison" and the reviews from Anandtech not?

It's nearly impossible to maintain secrecy on a device like this. The intelligent and strategic thing to do would be to do controlled leaks of things that aren't real to disguise the real device.

I think it makes sense. Do you remember the rattling power button of the iPhone 5S? (and the failing power button of the 5?)

In my view, Apple had to change the design of the phone and move the power button in order to make it silent and robust. If it is indeed the case, then I will be very happy with this new design. (I did not buy the 5S because of that rattling sound it made)

A bit off topic, but I have to say it: really hate cases with a opening specifically for the :apple: logo. Incredibly tacky, imo.

Agreed. I think the classiest way to show the Apple logo is to have it subtly embossed in the case itself, like what Apple does with the 5s leather case:

IMO that's a lot more tasteful than a cutout, but third-party case manufacturers aren't allowed to do that since they would be using Apple's copyrighted logo. A cutout is their only legal option to show an Apple logo with an opaque case.

Maybe you can find a smart friend to explain the humor to you.

No, myself and all of my smart friends watch shows that are far more intelligently written, with far more nuanced jokes that only intelligent people would catch, like Modern Family for example. Oh and with about a billion times better comedic actors.

P.S. That laugh track is there to remind people when to laugh or to subconsciously tell them that this show is funny (because millions of stupid people watch it, and don't know when to laugh).

Looking more and more like a Samsung.
This could be intentional.
Typical iPhone users will accept changes and adapt to anything Apple.
On the other hand, Samsung users are hard to convert.

Making the iPhone button locations and even screen appearance more like Samsung would help entice Samsung users to migrate to the iPhone.

Looks alright.
I'm just now too eager for the phone to come out. Need a new phone. Living off of a borrowed Android right now.

You mean like English comedy sitcoms... :D

Would be weird to place it on the side. Go ahead and push your volume buttons... you use the other side of the phone to brace your hand... so you'd be accidentally pushing the power button when you change volume

Case rumours are worthless. We did this last two years; case manufacturers just produce a few bits of plastic to the latest leaked rumour. Many of them fail and are tossed into landfill.

They have no inside information at all, zero, none, nada. The case manufacturers *follow* sites like this, they don't *lead* them.

Screen appearance? The last thing Apple wants to do is make their device look anything like a Samsung device. Increasing screen size and moving the power button to the side are as obvious as peanut butter going with jelly. Sorry, those aren't innovations, they're simply adjustments based on blatantly obvious things.

I agree with what you meant, hence why I think we'll get new software in June and a new phone in September.

These are renders I would say, but very good ones. Given the way the curvy part of the back of the case is reflecting so brightly, and then the rest of the case immediately next to it all light is absorbed, and totally uniform. Not even a hint of any light hitting that part, look how crisp the line is between those two areas. Not to mention the fact there is no way someone would or needs to manufacture a case now, given he sketchy details.

People are really trying to mess with us this year :)

I read the articles and they are just comparing them all based on their own criteria. At Anandtech I just read the information there and make up my own mind.

Also if I want a relatively unbiased phone camera comparison I'll look up dpreview. I think their mobile camera section is dpreview connect but not 10% sure.

that is your opinion, the show just got renewed for 3 more seasons and is one of the most popular shows on tv right now.

Yes it is my opinion, however it's popularity is completely irrelevant. It is on CBS which means it will have incredible viewership, and most viewers are stupid (not all), they soak up that unfunny stuff.

How about two power buttons?

One on top and one on the side!

Problem solved!

On to real world issues.

Yeah then if you press both you'll put the phone into self destruct mode and it will explode in 10 seconds. Destroying the evidence that someone made a phone with two buttons that have the same function.

Not liking the idea of it on the side. Too easy to accidentally push especially for left handed types holding in their right hand. My Nexus 7 had it on the side and I was constantly turning it off by mistake.
