I hope this isn't true. I don't want to buy an iPad that is said to be the 2.0 version when there is a wildly better one coming out a few months later.
Right on, my brotha. And here I believe Apple agree with us both — so — I think because they know that iPad 2 owners would march on Cupertino, I can't imagine them not at least ANNOUNCING the iPad HD or whatever it'll be called on 3-2-11 for a Holiday launch.

My thinking is, yes, iPad 2 is about to ship and it'll be cool, but I think the other must announced now, otherwise ALLHELLBREAKSLOOSE, and Apple'll have to give out $100,000,000 worth of giftcards like they did when they screwed the 1G iPhone adopters with the major $$$ reduction a couple months later. This is tantamount to the same shiz.

Windows 7 hasn't crashed on me for the 2 years I've been using it, including the betas. I like Apple stuff, but they can no longer rest on the fact that they have a superior OS (since Windows 7 is in fact easier to use in many respects than Snow Leopard). And if Apple can't rely on the myth of a better OS anymore, they'd better start releasing competitively priced and decent, up to date hardware or they will eventually reach their peak and begin to decline.

Spot on. OSX is better at some things (it looks nicer, the built in key commands are nice), but Windows 7 has a better task scheduler, much better graphics support, far better developer support...I don't think most Apple diehards really know how good Windows actually is. I use both. Unfortunately I have been running Windows more on my 2010 Mac Pro lately...I just get more done...

iPad 2 will be a solid update! Do I want a Retina Display? OF COURSE! But I will buy iPad 2 and enjoy it till I get iPad 3. If they release iPad 3 earlier than usual, GREAT, I don't have to wait as long for the Retina Display! :D

The only tricky thing will be selling my iPad 2 before they announce iPad 3 if in fact it is toward the end of this year. It will be harder to predict since it is unusual behavior.

As far as a delay after next weeks announcement, it better not be more than a month wait! I'm not giving much credence to rumors of a delay.

technically a retina display would only need to be a 20-30 DPI improvement because a "retina" display is completely dependant on avg distance from face. So we could see one on the second. That said, doubling the resolution creates a screen with more DPI than my 60" HDTV. WHY do you need that?... I don't get it.

Doubling of the pixels only makes sense to keep App Scaling simple. No one needs 2000 x 1350 or whatever the ratio is, on a 9.7" display.

Come and see what 2011 will be the year off

In my opinion,
Ipad (2nd Gen) will be announced
Mac OSX Lion will be featured
'Really cool things coming to the next iPhone'
One more thing - ?
Then they'll release MBP with Lion pre-installed
iMac with Lion pre-installed
and the iPhone5 followed by Final Cut Pro / Logic Pro / Mac Pro revisions.
I think tomorrow will see a MacBook replacement only.
March the 2nd is all about renewing investor confidence, it has nothing to do with matching our expectations.

i dont like that mockup design. it sucks and the finish sucks. the old ipad design looked way better.

To be fair, the mock-up is likely covered in silver paint.

As for the shape, it has no soul. I hope the iPad 1.5 does not go down this road.

Apple will not release an OS to the general public before betas are available to the developer community. It just does not work like that.

All this speculation and no one can say for sure. I'm sure apple won't release 2 iPads in one year. It just doesn't make sense.

Typical way Apple does business now. Milk whatever they can out of new unsuspecting customers. vphone 4, ipad 1.5 and mbp 2010.5 with thunderbolt (ripped off from HTC). Where's the innovation.

I'm guessing they put lipstick on the ipad pig and dressed it up with a crappy vga cam just so they can sell it to unsuspecting masses who currently don't have an ipad 1. They're desperate to go against the onslaught of Q2 android tablets. Ipad Dos was redesigned after android tablets were specced out in January. Apple realized they were behind the hardware curve ball (as usual) and decided to restart the ipad 2 design for a Q4 delivery. Apple Fail DOA. Happy Birthday $teve Job$

Well, I know of people that waited in line for the iPad with WiFi only, then a month later, waited in line AGAIN for the one with 3G.

I know in speaking with them that they'll be in line for every new iPad that gets released. Apple has learned and knows of this.

Welcome to Capitalism...

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that these current stack of rumours are bogus?

Now i understand that the MD Port will now be called the "Thunderbolt" port or whatever other name Intel find hip at the time.

Well, the new movie "Thor" is coming out soon.... ;)

Agreed, but what else would they call it?

It might be called the iPad 2, but it would still have just "iPad" written on the back.

Every iPhone so far has said just "iPhone" on the back. No "3G", no "3GS", no "4". The back of every single iPod, from the original 5 GB FireWire model to the latest Shuffle, Nano, and Touch, have all only ever said "iPod". Not even the sub-model name, much less a 'generation' number.

The last Apple product to have a number (or anything other than the 'base' name) on it's name plating was the PowerBook G4.

So, they are having problems manufacturing the next iPad, and yet we are hearing of 2 different iPads in one year? LOL.

We all saw the invitation. Apple has an event, and therefore has a plan. Nobody's gonna get screwed by an iPad 1.5. We'll find out on March 2 what's up

although i agree with you on some parts the developer support is getting considerably better. especial with the new apple store and many ipad developers migrating to osx. osx is fantastic to develop for if you want to make money. your not competing with 2,976,431 different versions of the same type of app.

Amazing how worked up some people are getting over rumors and speculation that has literally been changing hourly. Has Apple EVER released a hardware product, only to replace that product 4 or 5 months later? This is the site that tracks that, and I can't recall a single product. They probably wouldn't even recoup the set-up cost for the production run. Perhaps I'm wrong, but please tell me the product that they have done this with.

I agree totally, but I said Lion will be featured next week (as in further features will be announced) and the next MBP / iMac revisions won't come out until developer betas are finalised and Lion goes live. That's my call.

Enough...

This has gone beyond ridiculous.. These "reporters" need to just come out and admit "Look... we have no clue what Apple is going to do.. we never do..." instead of the endless speculation that they do trying to make themselves look like they are an "insider" with the "real scoop"... They come out with 100 different stories in the lead up to a new product launch and if they are sort-of right on one of them they dig that story back up and say "see I was right..."

most of the people that actually work at the company don't even know what is going on with new products... why should I believe some dime-store blogger has "real" story...

iPhone 4 and Verizon iPhone 4. It WAS different after all

(although not replaced)
