What does that link have to do with my post, where I am saying that Android runs apps?

I think the point is this: Android users seem to want a tablet version of a modern computer.

I want this too. Why not?

Nope, Android users want a tablet that just works, and runs apps, plus does more. And it does work exactly that way.

I want this too....and I feel I have it with the iPad. Now, if you add runs full versions of productivity apps....well...neither does that yet.

I think best thing you can get right now is Google Docs on Android. Didn't test it myself, but I hear good things about it. Other than that, I think that only Windows 8 tablet may be the answer for that.

I guess Pages, Numbers, and Keynote don't exist in your world? They can edit, etc, native Microsoft Office format documents.

Oh, and that link you refuse to acknowledge: it's relevant because it shows that developer support for Android is declining. Which, I'm sure you can figure out, means that while you want a tablet that runs apps, you can expect far fewer apps to be developed for Android.

The obvious answer to me is that tablets are not currently powerful enough to have all the features of a desktop or laptop without becoming too bulky to be useful as a tablet. As evidenced by the failure of tablet PCs to catch on.

The other issue is that a new form of input (multitouch) provides an opportunity for rethinking the concepts involved in interacting with our computers. The problem is that if you throw in the old way of doing things "in the meantime", there won't be an opportunity for things to change for the better because people don't react well to change. Apple has been very deliberate in rolling out features such as cut and paste only after they are fully baked.

Look the truth is a tactile keyboard is pretty much superior to a touchscreen for heavy typing. It'll always be that way (at least for the foreseeable future). Tablets are wonderful for consuming media and interacting. In many ways they are becoming great tools for producing media as well, but the truth is heavy lifting is going to be better on a real keyboard.

If you NEED portability and small size with the ability to do HEAVY document work get a Macbook Air. (or wait for the new one this month!) they are great.

Luckily, you can use any bluetooth keyboard with an iPad for heavy typing.

Yes, because Numbers, Pages and Keynote were developed by third party, right?

And why on earth does it matter who wrote the apps? I know your'e going to do the typical internet argument thing and try to obscure the point and relate this post to something else and then say something about reading comprehension. Don't. (Also, go back and read your post where you said "best thing is Google Docs on Android" - what's that about third party? Eh? Eh?)

Just realize that Apple created three fantastic programs that allow you to do all sorts of business/productivity tasks "on the go." It has fantastic interoperability with MS Office. These are killer apps. Their functionality is amazing. Android can't compete.

Please don't to "move the goalposts," so to speak.

None of those solutions including Quick Office or Google Docs support a lot of Excel features. It's like a stripped down version and you lose a lot of formatting and functionality in every version I've tried so far.

We have the iPad 3G an iPad 2 wifi, and it is gimped.
You may not like flash, but it's still part of the web.

I recently picked up a Galaxy Tab 7" and love it. I use it more than my iPhone4 after I flashed it to make calls. If I couldn't jailbreak the iPhone4, then it would be gimped and I would have gotten rid of it long ago.

My girlfriend who loves her Apple products is a news junky. She can be on cnn.com, ktla.com, kron.com, etc.. and read news for hours.

Before the Galaxy Tab, not having flash was not an issue. She would see the blue square and move on. After the Tab, she doesn't pick up the iPad as much. She grabs the Tab. Says she can read watch the Flash videos and listen to the reports as they are playing on those sites. From her mouth, "Can I use the tab, it's better to read the news on the tab, so you surf with the iPad."
Lots of people wouldn't know better. If they have only ever used ios then that blue square is accepted. It's like "Oh, hmm ok. Oh well."

So you can sit here and proclaim "Another nail in Flash coffin", but in the real world it's still here and isn't going anywhere.

I really don't believe your story. Why would anyone sit there and watch and read news on a 7" tablet? LOL

I haven't bothered with Numbers, but Pages is pretty useless for me when it comes to professional use. It just doesn't have the features I need, unfortunately. I, and 99% of the ipad uses in my office, would give an arm for a real version of office on our ipads.

Given your post history I doubt that you'd ever admit that a product was good.

Apparently she failed to read the news about Facebook and Pandora dumping flash.

Haha, burn! :)

Also, I'm laughing at the idea of loading up those news service's crappy websites and waiting on a slow-ass Flash video to load. There's dozens of professional news apps out for iPad/iPhone. News Pro (Reuters), Huffington, CNN, Fox News, ABC News, BBC, MSNBC, The Daily, etc, not to mention all the news aggregators.

............ I just can't believe someone would say that loading a crappy Flash website on a 7" screen provides a better experience than a beautiful native app on the iPad's screen..?? Weespeed can your GF answer that?

That's a tiny bit of the internet. You've been able to access FB on flash-less devices from the get go; my iPhone, using an agent faker, has had access to FB proper for years. Their games are a different matter, but that's not FB.

What does that have anything to do with her wanting to read cnn.com, ktla.com etc and being able to watch the news reports???????

Really please do tell me what your post has to do with anything I posted?

And to the OP, the fact that she can read the news and watch reports is reason enough to do so on the Tab instead of the two iPads we have.

What burn? You really are 12.
And if you've never done it how in the hell would you know it's crappy? Please enlighten me.

And what's there for her to answer? The fact that we actually have 2 ipads and she prefers to use the tab??

Yes, defend the ipad office apps by talking about me. Maybe you really are 12?

You can't question someone for "talking about you" and then insult them in the same post. Makes you a hypocrite.

My post to you meant that you have something negative to say about the iPad in basically every post you make. That's why I'm not surprised you have yet another bad thing to say about Pages. If you hate the iPad so much why do you bother reading this website?

Weespeed: No use in replying to you further. You've already demonstrated that you are indeed lying. A 7" screen on a crappy tablet (the reviews of it are indeed damning) loading up websites and streaming flash video is a complete joke. No one in the world would rate that as a "better experience" than loading a native app on a powerful tablet with a bigger screen. It's just insane.

Oh ok.. So you read it. Don't have any experience.. Ok I see. You're a tool and now I'm lying..
I doubt you even have an iPad. Maybe it's your moms. Keep reading and basing stuff on that.

We need to settle this with a walk-off.

Now, this'll be a straight walk-off, old school rules. First model walks; second model duplicates, then elaborates. Okay, boys - let's go to work!
