I don't know about you guys, but I don't believe the thread starter. To each his own, I guess. I had my phone since launch and have no problems. I live in area where ATT signal is one bar to 3 bars. No drop calls at call. The thread starter could be a troll! ;)

hahahaha, yeah ok, that's it. I wrote this to make people aware who are still questioning if it happens with the CDMA one also.

The moral is, you guys are such fanboys and cant admit when Apple has an issue with some of their products. Jobs went on stage and said it's not an issue so the fanboys stand by him. If he said your crap was really yellow and not brown, you would probably defend him and say the coloring system is all wrong and steve is right, my crap is yellow

Some people like to "flare" or is "flame" or "provoke" a room full of people who love apple products. I never had a problem with iPhone 1-4. I have not read any Verizon iPhone reviews in part of drop calls. They all say that it handle calls way better than ATT iPhone. I have ATT iPhone and it works great. The thread starter have been following this forum for a few years. Surely, if he has attenuation issue, he knows to get a case or goto the apple store or get his incredible droid back or whatever. It is hard for me because I don't have his problem. Guess, I am lucky for the past 4 years. I never had a bad or defective unit from apple. Weird! I always had problems with PC computers from Dell, gateway, motorola, etc.

fyi guys, I just activated my new iPhone, called my wife, held the phone in my left hand to my ear as I normally do with the Incredible, signal dropped down to 1 bar and dropped call, I "may" get a bumper or simply return it and wait to see if they fix this in June.... So disappointed in Apple
I don't know what you were expecting, the Verizon iPhone 4 still has the antenna on the outside, you still have to touch the antenna to hold the phone, of course you're going to have the same attenuation problem that the AT&T iPhone 4 has. Until Apple fixes the design flaw and puts the antenna back on the inside, the issue won't go away.

It's too bad they didn't make the 3GS on Verizon as well, signal attenuation is 1/2 that of the iPhone 4 when death-gripping, 1/10 when holding naturally. Anandtech's comparison is eye-opening how much a difference in signal attenuation you get when your skin touches the iPhone 4's bare metal antenna compared to 3GS, which has its antenna on the inside:

actually, all phones have the antenna at the bottom. i think its a regulation that it has be the farthest it can be away from your head. older phones obviously don't have this, but i'm pretty sure all new phones do.

also, just called my parents and held my phone with my left hand. no drop... in fact, i've never dropped a call on my iphone.

lol at all the fan boys who deny this since day one. get over yourself. please explain to me how a more significant signal drop happens when I cover the antennae on my iP4 but not as bad when I cover the antennae on my 3GS? Same location. Ive tried many times comparing my iP4 and other family/friends to my 3GS and other friends 3GS's. The 3GS has never completely lost service, so please, explain that.

Honestly I dont care and dont really have a problem with it. Im extremely happy with my iPhone and a case fixes the issue entirely, but when I see all these people who are narrow minded enough to not realize theres a problem, it makes me laugh.

No one's saying it doesn't happen. Just that it's not a big deal to most users.

Well Im left handed....I guess thats possibly the only one benefit :)

sucks when you cant see what your writing.

To the poster who said it's a non-issue, I'll give you a non-issue. With my pinky finger (not death-grip or hands fully covering the antenna), my little pinky finger over the black strip literally cripples the phone. Bars go to zero, zero data can be processed and calls fail. Keep in mind I am not the only one. Oh did I mention I get 5 bars anywhere on my college campus?

wow, this thread is still going, LOL Nice!

I have to go back and catch up

how do you not believe me, I posted a damn video showing it happen, What other proof do you need, even on my way to work I dropped a call in testing it again. I am getting a case to avoid this but it does happen

Still an issue, but you were forewarned.

Everyone knows we are "holding it wrong." :apple:

Dont get the bumper. Overpriced garbage. Colors fade quickly and it starts to tear after awhile. At least for me. it got some bad reviews but i figured id try it anyways.

hahahaha, I'm going to hang it from a string while using it so my hands are no longer touching it during a call

I was looking at the SGP hybrid EX ones, they seem to have gotten great reviews.. Anyone try them on the att one. Right now they dont have the Verizon ones ready

The antenna issue is fixed. I've tested it.

sucks when you cant see what your writing.

Left handers usually hold the phone with their right hand in order to leave their left hand free for writing, typing etc.

Haven't tried it. I usually use Seidio because i use a belt clip. I also have a Gear4 Ice Box Edge. I really like that one. Almost like the Bumper but also has a clear back to it.

I also live in an area with 1-3 bars, and it's only 3 bars out in the driveway. So no, the other poster isn't a troll, he is just posting his experiences, which mirrored mine. I had to give up on the ATT iphone and have decided to wait until the possible IP 5 release. For me, CDMA is my only viable option.

I agree, except I've put up with the rubbish reception because I otherwise really like the phone, and I've learnt to think about where I place my hands and fingers on the device in an attempt to minimise the problem. However, if these problems haven't been fixed come the iPhone 5, I doubt I'd be able to bring myself to buy one.

There's no regulation that the antenna must be at the bottom.

It's just usually easier to meet the legal limits that way, when tested held up against the head phantom (dummy head).

With enough room in the phone, for instance, you can make the antenna more directional so that it always radiates away from the head. Then the antenna can be anywhere.

well I played with my Verizon phone last night and by gripping it in the bottom left I could drop 4 bars to 1 but I couldn't get it to no service....I havent obviously had enough time with it to see if this would affect calls but it looks like at least for me I can replicate it and it would be true that Apple did not rearrange anything for the sake of changing the antenna other than simply making it for CDMA.

I'm not complaining by the way...I knew about this when I decided to buy it.
