I believe you. I can only say that if it bothers you, set the timer manually

Right. This seems like the logical thing to do.

Apple even made it easier for you by putting the timer in Mission Control. Just swipe up, tap the clock and set the timer.

Have you tried asking Siri to be serious?

Serious question. Try to talk to her like she's a human being and see what happens. Worth a shot.

OP seems a little aggravated but that's his prerogative. I think if you need to shut her up you can do what everybody else does and assess the situation. There are a few options. Stop being lazy and set the timer, your thumb moves maybe a total of 5 inches during the process, you can click the sleep button right after you see the timer pop up so she doesn't respond, or you could make an angry post on the internet and pretend like that will help. If you google this you can tell it's not changeable. So either get used to it or do something to change it. simple

Your holding her wrong. ;)

Seriously, turn her off and don't be so damn lazy. Now if you will excuse me I have to rebury this damn body bag. :D

Just switch to Voice Control. It sounds like that's what you'd want.

Siri is alive. So you never know what it might say.

Ahahahaha this guy.. this GUY!!!!.. And stop your GF from going to the tanning salon. You don't want her to be an orange potato do you ahahahaha

Is there any way to TURN OFF Siri's STUPID comments?

I am using an iPhone 5s (iOS 8.0.2) .. I use Siri pretty much all day (setting timers mostly -- helps keep me on task).. I am SO SICK of listening to all of Siri's STUPID ******** COMMENTS every time I use this function..

"oh the suspense is killing me"
"some stupid ******** ***** about a good iphone doesn't boil over"
"roger that"

When my GF asked Siri where the closest tanning salon was:

"It's not good to be overdone"

ARE YOU ******** KIDDING ME? I get that Apple is trying to be "edgy" and "cool" and "hip" but commenting on someone's life choices is not Apple's place..

Have you sent feedback to Apple and looked into an anger management course? Ranting here, well all fine and good, will not get back to them in any way.

Decaffeinated coffee as well I think for a while.

Have you tried straight up asking her to be more normal?

Lol

OP I don't recommend you watch the movie "Her" lest you be angered even further by artificial intelligence.

THANK YOU. SOMEONE WITH A HEAD ON THEIR SHOULDERS.. FOR THE REST OF YOU.. IMAGINE HAVING TO LISTEN TO HER SAY ONE OF THESE STUPID COMMENTS AFTER EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU USE THE TIMER (I use the timer via Siri probably 10-20x/day)..

It's not like I'm asking for much. Or asking for any "added" functions. "Disabling" a function like this should be the simplest task. It, in no way whatsoever, affects the way Siri works. It's just annoying to listen to the same FOUR quirks OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER AGAIN!

:frustrated:

Can we swap phones? I'd love for Siri to be more personable, and not once has she said any of that when I've asked things of her.

I asked her to set a timer a few times after seeing this thread and she gave me the same witty responses as OP. I thought it was cuter'n kittens.

Smile, OP. You have a friend in your pocket. She just wants to make you happy and be loved.

Don't deny her that. :)

OP has a point, give him a break. and stop ranting, will u all...

--
if u all don't use ur siri and get what the OP is saying, i don't see why u all shld rant abt it.

I don't think people are necessarily ranting. Just voicing their opinion on the matter. ;)

OTOH, my Siri seldom interjects comments when asked to "do" things.

I asked her the same and she said, "Do you?"

Maybe because I'm female?

This made me curious to try out different things with Siri. I tried doing some controversial things such as the tanning salon, from which I could not provoke the OP's remark (I did get the annoying timer jokes, though). I then asked where I could buy cigarettes, and Siri found my nearest "tobacconist"—no judgment. I then asked where I could buy marijuana. It said it could find no cannabis clinics (I'm not in such a state). I then asked where I could get an abortion. It provided a listing of abortion clinics.

I then thought of asking about information for an emergency, which is where it utterly failed.

I tried, "I'm having chest pains," which it always interpreted as "I'm having chest pain's" and did not understand.

It didn't understand "I'm having pain in my chest," either.

"My chest hurts" brought up a map of the nearest mental hospital (it is a long-term residential mental health hospital and would not be suitable for emergency care).

I then tried just saying "Emergency," and the first time it brought up a Wikipedia page about a sitcom called "Emergency!"

The second time it brought up the location of a medical facility that is a "Doc in the Box" place--not an ER--and it also offered to call emergency services.

I tried saying, "I'm having an emergency," and it said it didn't understand and wanted to search the Web.

When I said, "Suicide" it offered to call a national suicide number, which I thought was the best job it did at any of the things I threw at it.
