I've been using the timer probably once a day for a year or so. It ALWAYS comes back to me with "Ok X minutes and counting".

I do have the male Siri though. Maybe he is less witty :)

it is indeed very annoying, it was fun the first few times but it gets very repetetive and off putting. like bing watching a tv show and hearing / seeing the title sequence every 20 minutes

Is there any way to TURN OFF Siri's STUPID comments?

I am using an iPhone 5s (iOS 8.0.2) .. I use Siri pretty much all day (setting timers mostly -- helps keep me on task).. I am SO SICK of listening to all of Siri's STUPID ******** COMMENTS every time I use this function..

When setting a timer:

"oh the suspense is killing me"
"some stupid ******** ***** about a good iphone doesn't boil over"
"roger that"

When my GF asked Siri where the closest tanning salon was:

"It's not good to be overdone"

ARE YOU ******** KIDDING ME? I get that Apple is trying to be "edgy" and "cool" and "hip" but commenting on someone's life choices is not Apple's place..

The rest of the things I mentioned are just plain annoying.

I would like to use Siri, have it do what I ask, not throw in some stupid comments after everything I do.

Is there a way to disable that aspect of it or is this yet again, another design flaw by Apple?

At the end of the day, you're upset with an "Artificial Intelligence" digital assistant, and the way it responds. You could always switch over to Cortana on the windows 8 phones. I hear she's much friendlier.

In heavy use of SIRI yesterday, I have to admit that I got a few annoying and unnecessary responses.

Perhaps one of the voice choices could be an optional Deadpan SIRI that eliminates these responses. It only consumes nano ticks on the heuristic calculator anyway.

The closest you can get to a solution is to turn voice feedback off which is less than ideal.

I can't say they bother me that much. I was using the "hey Siri" function from about 10 feet away and it only picked up the last half of my sentence three times before I said "Hey Siri, go ... yourself" and its reply was "I hope you don't kiss your mother with that mouth" which made me laugh.

I'm laughing my head off here. Some other responses are also hilarious!

Are we now getting to the stage where we will get insulted by AI devices? If it bothers you that much then don't use it or set it manually. OR, just see the positive side of the fact that its not boring voice chat and it actually has some personality which is what a lot of people love. If it was a real person doing these remarks you wouldn't be able to change that person either so try to approach it that way and you will be ok. IF you can't do that then just do it the old fashioned way.

It's still hilarious though, your iPhone voice assistant "upset" your gf. HHAHAHAHHAHAHA

I have the female voice and I hardly ever get any routine witticisms.

I do find this entire thread fascinating. It's almost like Siri has different personalities. I wonder what triggers each one?

He's irritated at the human beings who allowed the heuristics to be able to take the perspective they're taking.

:)

At least that's the way I looked at it.

I'm not as annoyed as the original poster, but when you mean business it's just a little silly, that's all.

It's the heuristics. The programme takes a chance based on what you've said.

Just out of curiosity, I did exactly what the original poster did. I did not get all the responses he got, but to the 60-minute timer I got exactly the same response he got.

I'm probably going to get rocks thrown at me here, but I'm going to go out on a limb and comment that I have a little better luck with "Okay Google Now" than I have with "Hey SIRI."

I have a Moto X that I bought just to see what the fuss was about, and I've noticed that I get fewer errors and better detailed help with Google than I get with SIRI.

Maybe that's just me.

There's no silliness with Google, either, at least not in my case.

My Siri is a male voice and he's very serious and he really gets annoyed and gives me snippy responses when I try to joke with him. Maybe we need to trade Siris and you can have my Siri with the stick up his circuits. I do find it interesting that they seem to have personalities. I guess it's appropriate someone who calls herself "Grumpy Mom" would have a Grumpy Siri.

What did your GF say in response to Siri's comment about her tanning? Did she laugh it off?

There should be a option for. 1. A quirky Siri 2. A serious Siri. I would take the quirky Siri, but I could see how it could frustrate someone who is busy and in a hurry.

Siri is the most useless thing in my opinion ever put on the iPhone. I used it maybe 2 times since 2011. Maybe I am old school and like touching the clock app then setting the alarm instead of telling my phone to set it.
