You call this an issue?? I call it lack of CS. When you fry your CPU ,you'll be the first one complaining, Apple sucks!:(

The "not going to sleep when I close the lid" bug is well known and is not new to this generation of MBP (although I hoped they had corrected it). I have an early 2008 MBP myself and I have this problem happen from time to time. Sometimes you have to do a hard shutdown and sometimes you just open it and it cools off by itself. Don't worry about damaging your CPU as there's a security system that switches it off in case of overheating. Actually it happen to me two days ago and the computer, according to istat, was not really hot (about 60 degrees celsius), but the whole computer, including the outer case were at that temperature because it was inside the backpack.

so far i've read nothing but complaints on here about it from the glossy screen, crooked keys, screen resolution, cosmetic imperfections etc.

so i'm wondering if there is anyone who purchased one who is genuinely happy with their purchase and have a flawless(in their eyes) product?

all these posts about defects or imperfections has me worried about the arrival of mine. just need a bit of reassurance from satisfied customers. haha

I love mine. I had a couple of small issues but Apple is sending me a replacement and compensating me for my trouble, plus I get to keep the old one to the new one comes in.

Hmmm, alright. So, there seems to be quite a number of happy MBP owners...

But that "not going to sleep when I close the lid" bug... does it happen all the time you try to close the lid or just sometimes????

I absolutely love my new Pro. Yes, I had to go through 2 of them before I found one that was well worth the money I spent on it but I'm glad I did. I now have a 100% perfect machine that I love!

All I need now is 4GB of RAM and a 7200RPM HDD and I should be set for awhile.

One thing you have to remember about these forums is, people come here to complain. When there is nothing to complain about, or they received the perfect system the first time...no one is going to post about it. Really the only time people post is if they have problems.

I love my new macbook pro to death, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I got so tired of PCs and their lack of working as described for example when I put my macbook to sleep I know for sure that it is going to come back with my laptops it was a guessing game if it would come back or if I had to restart it and loose my work. I love the trackpad being buttonless and the overall size of the pro. I can't say enough good things about this.

But does everybody have this "sleep mode" issues or just some of the MBP owners?????

i figured that, thats why i made this post.

thanks for the input everyone. mine should be in on tuesday. :D

I haven't had any issues with my new MBP. No dust under the glass, dead pixels, light leakage, sleep mode problems (had this issue with my old MBP's), or anything else.

The only issue for me is the glass screen. It's a love AND hate feature.

Upgrading from a previous model MBP, this new one is all about refinements. Yes, I think if you can afford it, the refinements are worth it. Here are the features that I would sadly miss if I went back to my old machine:

-unibody and styling (much less creases, openings, for better for hygiene)
-huge trackpad
-4-finger swipe for expose
-dual GPU's
-ambient light sensor at the top of the screen
-iSight with better auto-adjustment levels (software?)
-less heat output
-MBA style keyboard (easier to find keys when using at odd angles)
-lid can be angled further back (better viewing when standing)
-less headphone noise (still not dead silent, though)

Having said all that, I recently told a friend not to upgrade to the new MBP because of his money situation. Upgrading is definitely a luxury this time around; it has little to do with performance enhancements. Still, I believe the new MBP to be the best notebook on the planet right now, and yea, I never expected it to come cheap...

New MacBook Pro Problems

First and foremost, I hate bitching about Apple because I think it is an amazingly innovative company and we are all better off for their existence and imagination.

That said, I bought a New MacBook Pro... I took it back the next day!

It crashed a couple of times, (nothing like I have seen before) which made me uneasy. I want a machine I can work on solidly for the next 3 years and put through its paces without trouble.

(for a detailed explanation of the crashes I experienced which I actually filmed on my digital camera, search my previous threads)

The mouse click is terribly noisy and just wasn't as responsive as my old PowerBook.
And when i say not responsive I also mean, did not do the things my fingers told it and the track pad to do in conjunction!

The level of noise that track pad button emits is just not tolerable of any relatively quiet environments such as a library or an airplane and I fear my ears might never get used to it and I will have to start using a mouse.
(double track pad tapping is not my thing)
I do think this last point is a compromise on Apples behalf.

Wasn't too keen on all the connections on one side, again this is personal but one forum member made a good point; if you want anything on your right side (right handed mouse users, external hard drive etc) it will have to stretch round the back of the screen. A neat design but... convenient?

The screen falls shut when held perpendicular to the ground: I never really use my laptop in bed, but if I decide to it will have to be flat on my lap or the mattress.
Again this seems to be a compromise. I wouldn't think a company like Apple would have oversights but then again...!

I have wondered whether the current global financial crisis might have had any impact on the production and release of this new product?
If anyone has an opinion I would love to hear it.

I was upset that the process wasn't as simple as - buy and enjoy!

Someone also commented that this MBP will not be a classic like the last one and that in their opinion Apple will not manufacture it for the same length of time as the old MBP got.
I would be upset if problems persisted, the consumer spoke, and Apple responded with a new product sooner than expected. This is obviously only speculative.

I am trying to figure out what to do - buy an early 2008 old MBP or wait for the Rev B batch. Will they iron out actually problems on the Rev B or just make it a faster machine etc (which they should have done in the first place!)

Anyway, I am on here in the mean time seeing who agrees with me and who does not.

There, I bitched. Do I feel better... no really! My new MBP still had to go back to the shop and I have to spend time now assessing my Laptop situation.

I am aware I have just given you nearly all the reasons not to buy a New MacBook Pro, but this is just because we take all its good points for granted because we are humans and that is what we tend to do.

ATB,

J

Feel better jerkwad?

The title of this thread is "anyone actually Happy with their new MBP". Clearly your problem is not the Late 2008 MBP but with your inabilty to read and use the English language. Or is is just your arrogance that makes you think people are dying to read your insightful words. Or is it, more likely, that you just love hearing the sound of your own voice.

Please take your whiny a&& to some other thread and leave this one alone. Based on your complaints you are just a crybaby anyway. Please see your mother for assistance or seek professional help.

I think you're the one getting confused. Please revise my words before breaking into another hot flush.

No confusion and no hot flush....
This is not a place for you.
You have complained about the Late 2008 MBP in other threads, and then again here. What is your problem, can't stand to see people happy? Time for you to just leave this thread alone. Your comments are non-responsive so go preach your opinions in the proper place.

Despite some of the LED issues i have had. This is the best notebook (or computer) i have had, in terms of the machine it self. Its so quiet, i never hear the fans, i love the new trackpad, i was always a fan of the chicklett keyboard.

Coming from a 13 inch MacBook the larger screen space is incredible.

overall, i am pretty happy.

Yeap - best portable I've owned (and I've owned a lot). :)

Ordered the brick on the 14th, received it this Wednesday all souped up, transfered all the data yesterday, loving it today!

I was hesitant about not having a choice with the glossy screen and also having only one firewire port. But the screen is fine and won't be a problem for my creative work. And I have a hub for more firewire devices.

For me, this really is a beautiful machine. I've been waiting for this update for about a year to replace my 2003 1st gen 17" PB and I couldn't be happier.

"Jony" Ives really should be proud!

I just upgraded from a 4 month old MBP and I love it.
Was worried about the glossy screen, but its great so far.
Maybe this should have been a vote, I would be interested in seeing the %'s of happy vs non happy.

had mine for about a week, love it so far
i dont have this sleep problem either

but if i had to say anything negative
it would be

- the keys get fingerprint marks, like from grease, even tho i dont think my fingers are greasy

- the trackpad is pretty loud

- i set the bottom-left part of the trackpad to be the secondary click
but i dont know if its just me, but its always like a hit or miss when i press it, like sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt

- bluetooth doesnt function well in my opinion, more of a software thing than a hardware thing

as you can tell, quite minor things so its all good

I upgraded from a 2003 17" powerBook, so my 2.8ghz, 320gb 7200rpm, 4gb MBPro is nearly flawless -- only the keyboard has an odd feel to me.

If only Apple's pre-flat external keyboards were still available ... :(

Ummm...Can you not read? Or do you just not understand what "sleep" means?

I closed the lid and watched the notebook go to sleep (standby). I've been doing this for the past five years with all of my Apple notebooks. This is how they were designed to be used. Obviously you did not know this or are just too stupid to realize it. When the notebook is asleep (standby), no moving parts are running. No fans, no hard drive, no screen. Any idiot with half a brain knows if you stick a running notebook into an enclosed case such as a backpack, of course it's going to get blazing hot. DUH.

The notebook should not have woke up while it was sleeping (standby). That's the issue here.

Read the statements before spewing that crap out of your mouth, boy. You make the rest of this community look bad.
