is it weird the my new mbp doesnt some times make the start up sound? i didnt mute or anything

I'm lovin' it

Well, got my new macbook pro, absolutely love it, and i'll have to say I can't find a single one of the defects people are complaining about. Can't find dead pixels, keyboard is great, and I can deal with the screen. But, I did want to point out a couple things. One, yes the multi-touch gestures can be a little weird, but two, if you leave your thumb on the bottom of the trackpad where the button used to be, the trackpad does not recognize it as a second finger, which means you can use it just like it has a separate button. So to me, it doesn't make a difference that there isn't a separate button.

I bought my 2.53 MBP Saturday 10/25 at Best Buy ($50 in Reward Zone Certificates) and so far it's perfect!

I'm looking forward to using it with my external monitor as I'm waiting for my Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter to come in.

BTW, Nice going Apple! for rendering the external monitor of everyone who buys a new MB/MBP useless and not having the proper adapter available at Apple Stores or anywhere else for the matter.

It's bad enough we have to spend $29 to make our own equipment useful again but making apple.com the only way to get one is just flat out insulting!

Would it have really killed them to include this adapter in the damn box!

Well, the old MBP had a DL-DVI port AND a DVI -> VGA adapter so that it, out of the box, would work with all monitors. With the new one, to get the same functionality, you need the DVI, DL-DVI, and VGA adapters (unless the DL-DVI one will drive a non-DL display) which is like $160 more. It's a bit silly, especially since they raised the edu pricing.

As to the OP: I love mine, no issues so far, knock on wood.

Mine doesn't make the sound if I have the sound muted within OS X. Same with Windows, mute the sound and it will start up silently next time.

And... <- happy with his new MBP. :D

New 2.4 MBP=good so far!

I have only used this MBP for about 10 hours now and my opinion is that overall I am happy with it.

I originally purchased the MB (since returned) but I had an issue with constantly moving the screen angle to get an acceptable (to me) contrast. I find the screen on this MBP to be much better in that regard. The issue I see on the MBP screen is that moving left or right of center produces a slight yellow tint. I can live with that. For reference I have the LG screen in this machine (last two digits = 84).

Sharp edges

Hey guys, what about the sharp edges? ~How do u feel after 1 hour working or less. For me this is a very big problem. I have to find right position to not hurting me these sharp edges.

mine just came in. first thing i checked for was dead pixels. looks great in that regard. keyboard is fine. battery cover moves a couple millimeters, but i figure thats pretty normal. i just need to adjust the trackpad button like someone suggested in another thread.

but yeah, im loving it so far.

I love mine. I purposely had very low expectations for the glossy screen so it is actually better than I thought. It is my main complaint, but it isn't horrible. I also kind of miss FW 400, but I have FW 800 drives as well so it's all good. Design wise, I love it. Everything on mine lines up perfectly. It looks gorgeous! The keyboard is great and the screen is amazingly thin.

Which thread? What did you adjust. Thanks in advance!

quoted from the thread. it was titled PLZ READ WHETHER OR NOT YOU PURCHASED NEW MBP or something to that effect.

FYI, I just adjusted my touchpad and it's quieter and easier to click. It's pretty simple to do. Flip over the machine and remove the battery. Look for the single semi-large set screw by the touchpad near the front of the machine. It is not a regular phillips or slotted screw it has the shape of a Y. No fears since a small slotted (size 2 works great) screwdriver will fit across the screw. I screwed mine in just slightly. Just make a small adjustment then try clicking the touchpad repeat if necessary. If you go too far in you won't be able to click the pad. Too far out and pad will be sloppy. BTW, the screw is just adjusting the gap in-between the hardstop (screw) and a metallic tab that serves as the clicker/switch. Mine turned extremely easily. I would think that it should have a little thread locker on it to prevent it from moving over time. I'll probably put a drop of Loctite on mine for good measure.

I have to admit I was pretty scared after reading some of these stories on this forum about making this purchase but I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 2.4 MBP yesterday. After examining everything out of the box the machine was absolutely perfect!!! No gaps, scratches, LED was perfect etc.....I used it heavily last night watching videos and doing some intensive testing and the fan never spiked above 2000rpm! WOW what an improvement over my first Gen Air (which I sold to purchase this).
I am very satisfied and trust me the Glossy screen and trackpad get a little time to get used to but if you are afraid to buy because you are afraid of the bad experience just go for it! I have always had good luck with my machines from Apple though. My 1GHZ PB G4 (REV A) was a Gem and without major problems for over 5 years. Love this new MBP!

is there a 2.8Ghz MBP option?!

To answer the original question: Yes, so far...

Got a 2.8 with 320 7200 RPM two days ago. I moved from the early macbookPro 15" which was matte and did have a noisy fan thing going on lately. I also have an Air which I love.

Is there a 2.8Ghz option with the new MBP or am I missing something?

Best,
Josh

Does anyone else's new MBP have a right speaker which is much louder than the left? It's bugging the hell out of me, everything sounds like it's coming from the right side.

Otherwise, everything else is great.

Yes I noticed the same thing almost straight away. It's not a major problem, and you can adjust the balance between the L & R speakers in the settings, however presumably this also carries through to headphones etc so everything apart from the laptop's will be skewed over to the left..

Apart from that I'm absolutely delighted with mine. Never used an Apple before and have been amazed at how slick the whole experience is, from initial start up to adding music, photos, applications etc. Also got AirTunes working with minimum of effort. Great stuff.

On my third one actually.. this one is making me happy for sure. It is pretty much perfect - battery door aligned perfectly, screen is totally evenly lit and nice, keyboard is fine save for a couple of slightly tilted function keys, and the speakers seem fine. Hinge is also good. Sweet :D

I ordered my MBP the day they came out, and did not order an adapter with it. when I checked my order online the next day, they had added an adapter for free. I guess I figured that they were doing that for all new MBP purchases, but it must have been a fluke for some reason for my purchase.

Just got my MBP this morning. Not only is this my first Apple computer but it is also my first notebook. So far I am extremely happy. It will take some getting used to the new operating system but I am sure I will retrain myself quickly. As of right now I am not planning on bootcamping it since I was able to take advantage of that free Crossover offer and can use the copy of Office I already had for my PC. I also installed Steam but have had a little trouble there. I'll work it out.

No dead pixels, and the battery cover is nice and tight. I always hated using other people's laptops in the past because the trackpad just seemed really awkward, and I much preferred a mouse (still do somewhat). I think Apple really nailed it with this new trackpad. It is about the easiest thing to use and is just as functional as my old 5 button mouse. I have yet to have any trouble with it being unresponsive (knock on wood). Hopefully soon I will get TF2 up and running on Steam and sometime after Christmas (when I hopefully get a nice recording interface) I'll be using this thing to record my band!

I just got mine and I really like it, it's faster, no noisy analog audio output, it runs more silent than my mbp classic, and the build feels more solid. It also actually closes evenly which surprised me.

I'm just not used to the trackpad yet.
