I've only had mine for a few hours, but I already like it a lot. I've always purchased matte screens in the past, but even I can't deny how amazing the display is. The viewing angle and colors are so much better than the matte LED displays of the previous generation.

The keyboard is probably my favorite part. The keys were too close together on the previous model, and I found myself hitting Shift + Up Arrow while typing, thus causing me to type over the previous line. The spacing and feel of the new keyboard is so much better.

The trackpad is excellent. I love gestures, especially with Multiclutch. I totally dig the "no button" thing. It works fine. The click is extremely noisy and doesn't recognize presses made with the entire width of your thumb, though.

The build of this machine is so much more solid than the Powerbook relic case of the previous MBP. The screen is lighter and extends back further, the machine feels like a solid brick when closed, the sleep light is much more subtle, the upgrade process is so much more streamlined...(although I find it harder to get the battery cover back on).

It's not perfect. I miss Firewire 400, and I wish they could have added a third USB port. But it's still an amazing machine, and as Ive said, it's much more than just a collection of parts.

well i recieved my mbp yesterday and am now ready to actually post here...
after a few hours of testing ive come to the conclusion that i was probably pretty lucky as i have a pretty much perfect MBP. everything is great except the power button isnt flush with the case in the corner (not like i care)
the thing runs quite warm... i guess the combo of 2.8ghz and 7200 rpm drive is the cause of that but... its only warm at the back of the machine so not where my hands are which is good.
So far i have not been 100% imporessed by performance but i have been adding 100gb of music to my itunes library over and over and over to try and get it right (still havent worked out why its copying the music twice as the stuff is allready on the hdd but itunes seems determined to copy it again...)
It also runs silent something im more happy about than anything else...
all in all its and awesome machine and i could not be happier with it:cool:

I got mine on Thursday and I absolutely love it! It is my first Mac and I went through two months of hell to manipulate HP into giving me a credit on my old PC to put towards a new Mac. I was afraid after eavesdropping on your site, hearing about dead pixels, crooked keys and non-flush battery covers - but mine came out perfect. Love every inch of it, though I miss having a delete key ... I mean, it has a "delete" key but it's really a backspace key not a delete key like on a pc.

if you hold the FN key and press delete it's forward delete instead of backspace.

Just love it...

I have my 2.53GHz one for two weeks now - and I totally love it...
So much nicer to work with than the XP laptop I have for work...

Best bday present ever ;-)

This is my 2nd day w/ mine and am very happy. Only problem is a intermittent popping sound when listening w/ headphones. I'll have to call in about that as I'm an audio guy. I hope its a simple fix because other than that I'm completely happy with mine, its gorgeous and powerful!

I love mine.

I traded a warranty replacement top of the line Aluminum MacBook and some cash to a base model MBP and it seems I was lucky with both machines, both had the 'good' LG optical drive and the better of the screens that were shipping with these machines.

I love the glossy screen, and haven't had any trouble with it in any light, my Core Duo MacBook that was warranty replaced with a Core 2 Duo Penryn MacBook and then most recently the Aluminum MacBook I used to trade up to this machine all were glossy and I never had a problem with those either. The screen quality on the MBP is admittedly much better though, because it's a different kind of panel.

I don't have slanted keys, or a warped case, or a non-working optical drive, or any of that stuff people are mentioning. Maybe I'm lucky? I even got it on *gasp* CRAIGSLIST!

I do however have some software issues with the new trackpad, like the mouse disappearing, and sometimes not responding to my gestures (regardless of how many fingers they may require, even just moving the mouse sometimes); and I fully expect a software update to fix these issues.

Plus I've got a birthday coming up so I've got a 320GB 7200 RPM drive and a 2x2GB DDR3-1066 kit on my list :p

I've had mine for 3 weeks now and I'm still in love. I'm a switcher, so the rapid wake from sleep blows away my old Toshiba (I don't know what it was doing, but Windows was definitely cranking away with the hard drive every time I came out of sleep). I love everything from the glorious screen to the solid aluminum body. It's a great notebook computer with a great OS.

Is there any supporting doccumentation that any of the screens or drives are better than other currently shipping MBP systems?

It was my understanding that warping cases were more of a problem on the classic MBP models.

Just that the optical drives by LG are much better the Matsushita drives, and that there appear to be a few shipping as per threads here on this forum; and there are two LCD panels, the 9C84 and 9C85 in the new Unibody MBP's, and out of the box the 9C84 appears to have better blacks and contrast than the 9C85, and after calibration they both appear similarly improved with the 9C84 just barely edging out the 9C85; but this is of course personal preference.

There are a few people here an MR that have bulging cases or weird slanted casing perhaps 'warped' wasn't the right word, but I meant just an imperfect casing.

Mine's perfect so far! Still doing the target drive transfer, so I haven't checked the monitor manufacturer yet...but the display looks fine and dandy to me!

I ordered 2.4MBP the day of the release and received it that friday. Best computer I have ever owned! It is super quick, thin, powerful and I love everything about it. I feel bad for all of those people who have glitches, but I guess not all of them are lemons. I would recommend the MBP pro to anyone! I just hope mine doesn't crap out tomorrow after all that I have just praised about this amazing computer!

Just got my MBP this morning. Not only is this my first Apple computer but it is also my first notebook. So far I am extremely happy. It will take some getting used to the new operating system but I am sure I will retrain myself quickly. As of right now I am not planning on bootcamping it since I was able to take advantage of that free Crossover offer and can use the copy of Office I already had for my PC. I also installed Steam but have had a little trouble there. I'll work it out.

No dead pixels, and the battery cover is nice and tight. I always hated using other people's laptops in the past because the trackpad just seemed really awkward, and I much preferred a mouse (still do somewhat). I think Apple really nailed it with this new trackpad. It is about the easiest thing to use and is just as functional as my old 5 button mouse. I have yet to have any trouble with it being unresponsive (knock on wood). Hopefully soon I will get TF2 up and running on Steam and sometime after Christmas (when I hopefully get a nice recording interface) I'll be using this thing to record my band!

What 'crossover offer' are you referring to?

after 1 week

I have to say, I'm more than happy with my MBP :D

One annoying thing is the reflective glass screen, but, with the right lighting conditions and position (all you need is a desklamp) then it all works.

At the moment, I'm still thinking of whether to get a 23" ACD or the new 24" ACD (made for the MB range)

I've had mine for almost two weeks now and it's perfect. The glossy display is MUCH better than I thought - I see reflections only during the day (but they're so bad I'm going to get a 24" external matte display).

I was going to wait until January to get a new computer, but my 6.5 year old dell died on me. I wasn't overly excited to get the 15.4" mbp (I really wanted 17", but didn't want to get the older model). The late 08 MBP far exceeds my expectations and I'm so happy my Dell died on me when it did.

My view

I like the massive speed increase over my MBP 2.33 2GB 160GB (up to 2.8GHz, 4 GB, 320GB 7200RPM), the keyboard and the trackpad (you can never go back to non-glass!). I'm hoping that an HD upgrade in a year or two plus another 4 GB RAM will keep me going for a while.

I dislike the WiFi that is slow to pick up (10s v 2s) and pathetic battery which drains rapidly when the machine is asleep.

I still haven't quite mastered the clicking/touch sensitivity of the pad so I'm still getting a lot of unwanted clicks.

Have had my 2.53 Ghz pro for about 2 weeks now and love it. No problems whatsoever. I think I may have the screen bleed problem that some have noted, but it's not that big of a deal. Only really a problem if the screen turns black and then it's hardly even noticeable. this is a great machine and well worth the purchase.

YES!! Now that the trackpad works well...

...yesterday's software download seems to ahve taken care of my trackpad issues.

this things a silicon Ferrari..............

Im happy except mine came with a small nick on the corner =( this was a brand new sealed item too :(
