I like my black iphone5. No scratch issues out of the box for me. I use a ultra thin case and after taking it out several times, no blemishes.

As far as the lightning cable, maybe sell your old accessories? I sold all of my accessories and put it towards a couple new cables, and the rest is for a couple new speaker dock's when they're released. Made 375 on the sale of 2 docks, a speaker dock, alarm clock dock, and 7 cables. a loss of about 100 on my end compared to new prices.

Get a Android.

That does not solve the issue for a lot of us. If I return mine, I will be going back to my 4, which thank god has 5.1.1 . Android is not an option for me, I still think the 4/4s is the best designed phone out there and feels just right

*shrug*. I'm fine with mine. No paint wearing off and its been performing fine. I'm certainly not gonna complain about it being too light or cheap feeling (come on seriously?!)

Overall i'm enjoying it.

I totally get the too light argument and for me it's valid as well. I'm not talking about something that pulls your shorts down heavy but the 4/4S have always felt rock solid and like quality devices.

That's a very expansive exercise for some of us. I have a few meridian system and there is no way I am updating those for a cable.

Good, perhaps you should go with the Galaxy S3 or the Lumia 900, we with Apple will do just fine without you.

NoOoOoOOoo way.... love this thing. :)

Also loved the 4/4S but not going back to 3G and a slower phone.

<3 5!

I did and went back to my 4S.

In my opinion iOS 6 was the biggest selling point on the 5 as far as the speed/features which, seemingly to me, is virtually identical to iOS 6 on the 4S.

Maybe next year I'll upgrade...

I could never go back to my old 4s (or my SIII) from the iPhone5. By far and away the best smartphone HW I have ever tried.

I love my iPhone 5. I knew that the dock connector was going to be different before I bought the phone therefore I have no reason to complain. I need a new car charger and 1 dock adapter. Not a big deal AT ALL!

Totally agree with the OP. What a disappointment this is. Mine is going back to Apple tomorrow and I'll stick with my 4S which is built like a Leica compare to the junky iPhone 5. Oh and my Samsung Galaxy S3. Which may be plastic but at least it isn't falling apart.

Then selling wouldn't work for you. Which is why I posed it as a question to OP instead of as a blanket solution.

I'm assuming sarcasm, but with the internet, who knows.

There is no way I would give up my iPhone 5, or go back to my 4S permanently again. I finally have a nice looking phone without any issues at all. I can understand why those that do have issues would want to ditch the 5, though.

as soon as you mentioned the new dock connector, your arguments are null and void. Do you understand that if you go to a non-iphone, you will STILL have to buy new dock connectors, phone chargers, etc?

Um, maybe you are the only person now a days without a ton of micro usb cables laying around, but most people have them to spare. and if you dont they are ultra cheap, or you can get gold ones for $20.00.

I love my iphone 5. I have the black one - no marks on it at all. I did apply Ghost Armor, but I always have a clear skin on my phones - did so front and back for the 4 and the 4S as well.

I have it in a Griffin Reveal case, and honestly, this is the thinnest case I have ever used. For the 4/4S I had rubbery Speck and Otterbox cases - felt like it afforded more protection. I'm really enjoying the lightness and slimness of this phone.

If you aren't happy with it, you shouldn't keep it, of course. But I'm wondering why you would sell it. If it is as flawed as you say it is, you aren't expecting to make more off of it than you would get by simply returning it, are you?

For me, once I start seeing wear (if I do), if I am past the exchange period, I may just decide to remove the coating myself. I think it would look kind of cool if buffed nicely.

I am in no way anti-Apple. All of the hardware in my home and business is Apple and I have had iPhones since the 3G, but having spent a week with my new 5, I've had enough. I am not going to enjoy typing this, and am extremely disappointed to be so unhappy with something Apple given the money I've invested in the company's products and the loyalty I have for the brand.

The final straw is noticing the the edge of the band is just starting to lose its colour, with tiniest amount of silver just starting to wear through......and before anyone says it, I really don't see why I should expect a £529GBP piece of hardware to start to look tatty with normal use within a week.
It has been used normally in the same way as all of my previous iPhone's and lives in my trouser or jacket pocket with whatever else is in there at the time. In one week my 5 looks worse than the just over 12 month old 4S it's replaced.

The lightning cable is a total pain. I have TomTom iPhone 4 cradle, a charger upstairs, one downstairs and one in my iMac plus a car charger......and one lightning cable that I keep having to take everywhere with me as the lightning adapters don't seem to be available anywhere in the UK yet, least of all Apple itself.

And when they are available I don't really want to invest money in a load of adapters that aren't compatible with the iPad2 that is also charged with the existing cables that I already have in different parts of the house.

I also don't want to have to remember to take another piece of plastic with me when I take regular trips with my iPad and iPhone.

The touch screen has been problematic from the getgo, often needing to be touched 4 or 5 times to get a reaction.

I don't like the way it feels in my hand. The 4/S feels lovely to hold and use in a way that the 5 just....doesn't. It feels too big, too light and frankly, quite cheap and tinny compared to the 4S.
The longer screen is great if you watch videos or play games, but for general usage I find it quite cumbersome.

I know this is terribly negative, but there are genuinely so many things I just don't like about it.
This is the first Apple product that I have fallen out with......The iPhone 4S was a huge leap in terms of quality and over all feel and looks over the 3G with its plastic back, but I really think the 5 is a retrograde step compared to the 4.

Whenever anything Apple has been launched before, there's always been something ultra special and innovative about it that has set it apart even from its own products let alone other brands. With the 5 there is nothing at all really!

So as of tomorrow my 5 is up for sale before it looks any worse, and I shall be very happy to go back to my lovely, chunky, quality feeling 4S....Just have to get Vodafone to give me a microsim again!

We'll see what comes out next year and perhaps try again.

Guess what, when you buy a new non-apple phone, you will have to buy new chargers that also wont charge your iPad. Excellent argument.

The connector problem is an inevitable consequence of the technology change, and your being an early adopter of it. Apple's exiting dock connector has been around for a long time and so everyone has accumulated a lot of chargers / cables for it. But with time there will be lightning connector car chargers, cradles and an abundance of accessories.

After all, it's only been out for 6 days so far.

There is NOTHING wrong with the anodized aluminium.

If its scuffing or wearing easily for you, the you have a defective phone. Call apple and get a replacement.

Wow you made an account just to tell us that!
Thank you!!!

NOT

Troll somewhere else!

I'm actually 6'5 and don't fit under bridges so I couldn't be a troll even if I wanted to be.

The reason I've registered today is that for all the years that I've owned Apple products, I've never felt so compelled to post about anything, such is my disappointment in the 5.

I might try and swap my black for a white tomorrow and see how I go with that for a week. Ultimately I can also sell it (for a profit at the moment!) and go back to my 4S until the next iPhone launch.

Regards the few don't appear to have read my post but replied anyway, I didn't suggest that I would buy a non-iPhone as a replacement (I have an iMac, 2 ATV2's, a Time Capsule, iPad2 and the two iPhones so what the hell do I want with a Raspberry or an Alien or whatever they're called?).

However, the lightning connector may well be "the future", but it's not the "right now". My iPad2 doesn't have one and up until last Friday my iPhone and iPad were able to share the 4 different charge points that I have around the house and in the car. Replacing them and my TomTom cradle (and the dock I bought for the car stereo) is an expensive affair especially right now when the lightning tech is new and therefore expensive as its in demand.......in fact you can't even buy the Lightning adapter here at the moment!

I'm loyal to Apple and love the way the stuff works and integrates, but I'm not a fanatic. At the end of the day it's just "stuff", expensive stuff, and given I've really enjoyed everything Apple I've owned up to now, as I didn't personally design it to my own tastes, there was always going to be something, one day that they'd produce that I didn't like.
To be honest, it's a testament to the company that its taken so long for that to happen....But for me, on this occasion Apple, I think it'll be "no thanks" and back to the 4S running ios6.

I'd give the white one a try. It is far less susceptible to the "scuffing" issue, and after nearly a week, mine looks just as sharp as it did when I took it out of the box. That said, I think there may have been a bad batch of black phones as I've seen display models that look great, as well, even after you can tell they have been handled quite a bit.

Regarding the weight, it does take some getting used to, but OTOH I know a lot of people complained that the glass back on the old model broke too easily. I can see both sides.

As for the Lightning connector, it would have been an issue one day, anyway. The longer they delayed the changeover, the harder it would have been. Now was as good a time as any.

You don't get LTE on Vodafone, but for me, I can't see going back to the 4S because I'd give up LTE. Between LTE and the fast processor, everything seems so much snappier to me on the 5. You do get DC-HSDPA on the 5, though.
