Not iPhone fatigue (I understand the dynamic completely). My issue is this mechanical appendage called iPhone that is attached to my hand so frequently that there is a variant of phantom limb syndrome when the hand does not register the device's presence. Scary and at times annoying.

Luckily, phone size has been a priority for me, so I've stuck with the 13 mini since introduction. I've been thinking about the 18 to take advantage of the updated capabilities.

The 13 mini is perfect . . . it is small, lightweight, and disappears inside your pocket. They are cheap, by today’s standards, to get in refurbished excellent condition, and with a new battery will last the day. I use my Green 256GB 13 mini as a backup to my 128GB 15 Pro and have been doing fine using these devices.

Sure is! It's also perfect in yet another way I discovered last night.

My new Camelbak front zipper pockets fit the 13 Mini perfectly.
Anything larger would likely be an issue.

(goes in the open pocket you see here -- open as I'm taking a photo with the 13 Mini)

ditto to this
Same. Tech fatigue got me to abandon my Apple Watches and higher-end Garmin and now I am using a basic Garmin Instinct. Would absolutely love to ditch the smartphone for a basic flip, but there are so many apps necessary for work that I cannot. And unless my job decides to issue me a phone instead of giving me a cell phone stipend, I will never be free lol.

Other than battery life, I think what you’ve highlighted is one of the reasons I love my Garmin watch so much.

It is tech that is laser focused on the purpose at hand.

I don’t understand the problem. My iPhone (and all my Apple products for that matter) work better today than they ever have. Now they just issue incremental upgrades that aren’t all that exciting. But the product works great.

I don’t see what there is to be “fatigued” about. You mention “the snail paced incremental upgrades”. So what? It’s a mature product.

It seems to me like Apple conditioned people to get high on the expectation of paradigm shattering technological advancements year-after-year, and they’re no longer getting that high anymore, and they’re bitter and resentful about it. But that technological ramp wasn’t sustainable. It’s just that the early smartphone offerings were so ****** that Apple could just do the things that obviously needed doing, and it was groundbreaking. And now, Apple has essentially “solved” the smartphone. And if you don’t like Apple’s version you can get an Android which is also essentially “solved”.

Honda Accords have, likewise, been “solved” for some time. A 2026 Honda Accord isn’t much different from a 2016 Honda Accord. So there is not much to get excited about. And that’s fine. There is nothing to feel “fatigued” over.

Doesn’t your Apple Watch Ultra still work?
Your premise appears to be a bit confusing.

That’s the way the cookie crumbles, sometimes.

Trade it in and pick up a refurbished Apple Watch Ultra 2 or 3 in September.

Just picked up an Apple Watch Ultra 3 in black a couple of weeks ago. Don’t regret it a bit.

This is just a general statement. I feel like too many people get attached to the brands of things that they have, forming a mentality of tribalism.

All brands are going to increase their prices with what is going on with the economy. Only reason why I am tired of iphone is I have had one for the last 3 years, and had one several years before I had my Android phone. Iphone doesn't feel exciting anymore. It works, it does what I need it to, but it lacks excitement for me.
This is a genuine question, exactly how are android devices that much more exciting than iPhones?
I mean, I get it, the initial excitement of getting something new that you have never used before, coupled with the fact that android is significantly more customizable than iOS and has certain features that iOS does not

But surely, after the first couple days of getting everything set up the way you want it to, you quickly realize that… It’s basically the exact same experience? You use the same apps, you visit the same websites, you perform the same tasks, it’s just a smart phone?

I take it you are consistent and feel the same about a car or house or some other similar item?
Like having house fatigue? LOL yah sure let me change houses every 3 years. Sell my house, get a loan, down payment, find another one. To me a house gets better overtime. You personalize it, build memories. Have things and people in the house, and pet, that add to the perceived value.

When I was younger I used to be super obsessive compulsive about my cars, but these days, I'm like ehhh. They sold a transport issue or they are means to hit a trail. If it get's hit oh well.

I tried a pixel fold I think 2024 for 3 weeks give or take. First week was great. I love the form factor, the novelty. Big screen, watched a movie. Second week I realized I just used it for the same thing as my phone. Third week, I was super careful with it, I can't just throw in on the seat because of the screen and you can't even comfortably put in your pants and sit down. The sacrifices were not worth it.

Android devices offer a lot more customization, however there are some concerns I have such as Google basically "locking down" Android in the near future.

I have never used Google Messages before, and with RCS as the norm now, I shouldn't have the same issues I had before with Android. Really with the whole imessage vs everything else I blame Apple for making their ecosystem so locked down to the point where it is difficult to intermix different phone users in the same group.

The most interesting piece on that desk is the steel-looking Solo Cup lol. Where can one find those?
They are made by Ball and you can get a pack at Walmart. They are 100% aluminum, designed specifically to be a recyclable cup. That said, they are dishwasher safe (despite it saying its not). So you can literally use them until they cannot be used anymore and then toss them in the recycle bin.

I would imagine, as a Ball product, it's probably available at other retailers. I also just did a quick look on Amazon, but Amazon does not seem to carry them. There are a bunch of other aluminum cup vendors on Amazon though - but I cannot vouch for those.

I got them because they were cool looking. I use them so our regular glassware isn't in my rotation.

the snail paced incremental updates, the AI fiasco, intentionally grotesque design, recent price gouging (of apple products in general) - anyone else have general iPhone & Apple fatigue and just losing all interest?
For me, I wouldn’t say “fatigue” is the right word. I have definitely lost interest compared to years ago. As time passed I came to the realization that while I think it’s cool that technology has enabled so much functionality on a mobile device, I truly don’t enjoy using my phone for much more than the basic “phone” tasks, like phone calls, occasional text, looking something up in a hurry, or playing some music in the car. To me, it’s subpar for any type of visual media consumption or even playing games. In fact, it’s barely adequate even when just looking up information.

With all that in mind, I would prefer a smaller device that is less likely to fall out of my pocket, but that is not where the market has been moving. Clearly, none of the major players are making devices aimed at me, so there isn’t much for me to be excited about.

That my perception happens to be that software quality and priorities at Apple have taken a turn for the worse probably plays into it a bit because I was a bonafide hardcore Apple supporter years ago. Now I just see them as just another tech company.

I mean there aren’t many big rumour sites for most tools out there. Consumer tech and Apple specifically definitely has an element of excitement / enthusiasm behind its developments…

Fully with you on the useless wars
I get it! I do. The excitement of the early iPhone days will never return, it's mature tech by now. Plus I'm no longer an impressionable young geek 🤣

Having a completely different experience than I have had before. When I used Android 3-4 years ago, it had Samsung messages, and didn't support RCS. Things have changed, which would likely resolve my frustrations I had back then.
I got that when I purchased my Space Black Air on launch day. Since then every time I grab my Air to use I am still enamored by just how thin and light my Air is. To me the only other iPhone that brings this type of emotion for me is my 13 mini.

Not everyone enjoys being forced to keep giving Apple money because Apple decides to rug you.

Naturally, Le Chiffre (the Bond character, not you) may have differing views on rugging folks. 😂

Ok just accept interest wane and its normal, and its perfectly fine and reasonable to move on to other things and other hobbies.

I remember when I was 13, and somehow playing with GI Joe kinda stopped being fun, and I knew life would not be the same. Maybe OP is hitting this moment hahaha

I honestly have no idea what you are trying to say. Can you please clarify?

I was replying to him specifically about that AWU situation he was discussing.
