We don’t need YouTubers/reviewers to make our purchases feel justified, or have these people make the decision for us, or have them think for me.

I just watch reviews for fun cuz I’m a tech enthusiast.

Dieter Bohn was like “wait until our review before you make your purchase” he just want your views and clicks. Don’t wait, don’t waste time. Just experience it for yourself.

I certainly agree with testing gadgets and such, for yourself. It is the same with watching films.

I had an answer already at “Anyone else sick of YouTubers...” But seriously, my guess is <5% of YouTube (or any social network) channel brings notable usefulness, including entertainment.

I don’t know anyone of those useless people. I watch only MKBHD and iJustine. If anybody gets it before, it’s them.
...and always have been.

Unbox Therapy, EverythingApplePro, AppleInsider, ZONEofTECH, XEETECHCARE, GizmoSlip, Jonathan Morrison, Linus Tech Tips, Jon Rettinger, Krystal Lora, SuperSaf, Mike O’Brien, UrAvgConsumer, etc all scumbags

Thumbnails of these YouTubers pretending to have the iPhone in their hands, it’s so shady and scummy, and pathetic by tricking people that they have a product they don’t actually have. They never had an actual hands on it makes it difficult to find an actual hands on video, even though Good Morning America appears to be the only ones first to it

Yep, really ridiculous but this is what YouTube is all about, Clickbait, there is even an automotive YouTuber who has the word CLKBAIT as their license plate lol.

The tech guys are all especially bad when it comes to iPhone because they ALL know that average consumer who don’t really pay too much attention to tech news do tend to perk up a bit when new iPhones are announced because it becomes talk in mainstream media so they try to take advantage of that.

Not to segway too far from the conversation. But, I think Tim Schofield isn’t too bad. MKBHD can be a tad bit annoying at times. Alas, he does deliver a good overall product review, both positive and negative...

Youtube is only good for one thing. Watching stupid people get hurt or killed for doing stupid things. I enjoy watching nature weed out the dumb ones.

I think I'd prefer my son to peddle hard drugs than peddle armchair know-nothing YouTube tech videos.

Hmm, a little harsh. But, I get what you’re both trying to convey...

Rarely using YouTube...almost...never.

I might be bummer, but when I need viewing content on Youtube (usually some CAD tricks/tutorial) I will using sort of youtube-dl commands, and usually watched offline, because I can reference quickly when needed rather than rewatching online.

MKBHD is more critical about Apple than others. He is biased and I think he did mention he kinda is.
Every person is biased since every one of us have our own opinion. The difference is how we convey that opinion, and how consistent we are. At the least MKBHD is consistent. His weakness is only his lack of knowledge on devices outside the US flagships and some details, but at least he never pretended. This is in contrast with many of those other youtubers.

Gadgetmatch is another one I'm subscribed to now.

Then you have the Apple butt lickers, with their love fest Apple can do no wrong, which are vomit inducing to watch, like iJustine and Renee Ritchie, those two are such Apple tools, and [H]ardcore biased towards Apple, it's useless to even click on one of their dumb videos.
I know people like to harp on iJustine because of her enthusiasm. And yes she's a hardcore Apple fan. But she also review and say positive things (and also as enthusiastic) on other gadgets, like Samsung phones, Surface Duo, etc. That's who she is and her personality. I dont mind her.

True. In the end, I am an adult who can decide for myself on what I want to buy. And unlike these youtubers who got review units for free, I have to use actual money I work for.

OTOH, I watch these videos for information, like the box content, how the sizing and overall out of the box experience is. It's even more useful in this pandemic season. But I agree that I filter a lot of those youtubers out.

That's a good list. Joanna Stern is very clever, tbh I really like MKBHD too.

Rene Ritchie talked about this in one of his recent videos with Georgia Dow: he apparently tried running exactly the same video with different titles/thumbnails, got significantly more engagement / longer viewing times with the "clickbait" thumbnails/titles even though the content was the same. He also talked about other "tricks of the trade" like always going through lists of points in reverse order (e.g. if video is "5 things you didn't know about the iPhone 12" always go through from 5 to 1, not 1 to 5) otherwise people stop watching after you've talked about the first 2-3 points. It's weird how people's minds work...
Is it really that weird....all this proves is how much we are just smarter version of chimps. It’s basic human psychology. Once you crack the code it’s simple. Basic human reactions have and always will be this way. Free to play games are just a fancier version of a slot machine. Hell I could argue we are basically a higher form of mice. Hahaha

It is misleading, but at least when they mention “mock-up” in the title, you know what you’re gonna get.

Unbox therapy is larger than all of these channels combined, by a multiple. He doesn’t need the views, he’s getting them regardless. The others need to do whatever they can to get people to watches

Not sure why you are making excuses for these people regardless. I don’t care, it doesn’t change the fact that they’re being shady and scummy

It’s YouTube. If you click on it, it’s your fault. Everyone knows they don’t have the models in hand.

The always annoying iJustine who acts like she's going to have an org*** every time she unboxes an Apple product!
Seriously I watched her recent reaction this past Sept and I was like omg this girl is over reacting to this keynote. I watched her videos in the past but this one in particular woke me up questioning wtf is wrong with her lol
