It appears that there is a strong division among people. Those who have the older machines and thus the Kernal runs in 32 bit mode, seem to have little to no problems. But those who are in 64 bit mode (ironically on the newer machines) are having tons of issues.

Me, I'm 32 bit, and things work great. Can't complain.

New Mini and using the 32 bit kernel. The only way I could get FW 800 to work was replace the 10.6 kext with the a 10.5 kext. On my Imac (32 bit kernel) FW800 worked fine with the 10.6 kext.
Have yet to get ac3 passthru to work, no sound from movies but Itunes works fine.
But not giving up yet, but going back to leopard is a possibility.

Those users (not developers) who are in K64 perhaps should run at the default K32 until 3rd parties update their KEXTs.

Apple did what they did for a reason.

Nothing but headaches for me on my 1st gen MB. Everything is running slower and safari lags all the time. I'm almost tempted to do a true clean install, but I really don't have a day to waste on the process.

I like SL, however, it sucks due to washed out colors, the only application that shows correct colors is Quicktime X. Take a look at this... Does anyone else notice or has this?

Probably because the colors look more vivid on the black background? It may be the same effect why there is this black brezel around the monitors, so mabye the colors are the same ...

So I have a white iMac (not sure what year that was, got it from apple's refurb store), so just running the upgrade should work alright? I have no idea what a clean install would mean, or how to go about doing that.

I have a 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM on my iMac. I don't know if I'm 32 or 64-bit.

Frankly, you guys are scaring me half to death about upgrading!
My most important stuff includes VMWare Fusion, with an XP image. I don't want to go through reinstalling that.

If I wanted to revert to Leopard, could I just go into Time Machine and choose the last backup before the upgrade? Would that work?

:::shaking in boots:::

Copy the virtual machine to a external hard drive (while the VM is OFF), I use Parallels 4.0, and it has Windows XP.pvm containing the entire OS for Windows XP. I copied mine over.

You should be able to drag it back if anything goes wrong, although this is merely an assumption.

Backup anything else important in-case the TM backup doesn't work.
After going out of your way and doing all that hard work (it's actually not that bad) surely Snow Leopard will follow suit (just a joke:p)

Kind Regards

Don't think so, there are dozens of posts on forums like Adobe for bad color profiles in SL

10.6 = epic win. :cool:

kthnxbai.

I would rather call it "evolutionary" but now Apple has to go back and tighten up the nuts and bolts on the new buggy.
Like the double-click on the top of a window not dropping the window onto the dock like it used to (yellow button still works).
The Migration Assistant messed up tons of file permisssions when I transfered data and apps to a new Macbook Pro from a Powermac G5, resulting in a fresh erase and install, and manual app installations - 4 hours of mind nimbing work! (filed with Apple Care, who acknowledged the problem)
Other people are having network problems, etc. etc. As usual in a 10.x.1 release, there are many rough edges left to file down. I expect things will smooth out by 10.6.7 or 8. I do like the overall feel of the system, just wouldn't call it an epic win. But I do think it will be a winner in time. :D

Thanks for the advice... There is a file via VMWare, that shouldn't be too much of a problem to copy (though I'll probably put it on a flash drive, rather than the ext. HDD.)

Question about the file - does it contain *all* the stuff that I've installed on XP, rather than just the OS? I'm assuming it does. Yes, I know I should just go to the VMW forums. In fact, I'm going to head there, just to make sure that there are no huge probs running it on SL.

I'll probably do the upgrade in a day or so. :::crosses fingers:::

Clean install on my MacBook 2,1 and I'm really enjoying Snow Leopard.

On my machine things are so much quicker, its almost like having a new computer.

Mail.app starts up so fast, I love it.

I also like the ability to expose from the dock. Very handy.

Thumbs up from me.

I havent noticed anything different really, except that fliqlo isnt supported in SL (which sucks:mad:)... Most I have seen is my CPU/Memory usage is a bit higher compared to what Leopard used...

After upgrading and backing up VMW and running Time Machine, I put in the SL disc and followed the prompts. I did notice that I was "installing" SL - does that mean I did a clean install? - but afterward I noticed that all my programs seemed to be running as before (I didn't have to re-install anything).

So far, so good.

OH FSCK!!!!!!!

I now have iTunes *9*! Sh*t!

I don't know when I'm going to be able to sync with the iPod, because I won't be able to see my AAC spoken word playlists if I do!

After all the trouble I went through over the weekend to downgrade to 8.2.1!

Sh*t Sh*t Sh*t Sh*t Sh*t Sh*t!

Damn. Between this and the sick dog, I guess I'm going to go to bed. I *was* going to sync now, but after my experience with 9 before, no way. Will re-charge the iPod from the wall.

:::grrrrrrr:::

Snow Leopard did not come with iTunes 9. You lose.

Okay, SPAZ, then why do I now have iTunes 9, after upgrading to SL, when I had iTunes 8.2.1 just before I upgraded to SL? Answer me that, rather than mouthing off.

I know for a fact that the Snow Leopard retail DVD does NOT come with iTunes 9.

Snow Leopard was released BEFORE iTunes 9 was announced and NOBODY had iTunes 9 until 9-9-09 remember?

So yes, you must have run Software Update after you installed Snow Leopard because Snow Leopard didn't come with iTunes 9.

I'm still right.

Spaz is right. iTunes was released on 9/9 (hence the 9's) and SL was released 8/28. So you ran Software Update. You fail. You can go and reinstall and make sure to not install itunes 9 this time :p

This is the image above manipulated to show both
sets of buttons against the same black background:

Quicktime X buttons above, Firefox below.

Yeah, I realized after I went to bed that I'd run OSX update - and I knew that there was some kind of OS update (10.6.1), so I went ahead and ran it, without looking at the software updates that would happen.

Interesting thing - I just hooked up my iPod, and iTunes didn't open. I guess there's more to that story than appears.

Oh well.

ETA: iTunes 9 decided that I didn't have enough room on my Touch for all the stuff that was already on it (?), but it did sync my playlists, thank heavens. I actually preferred 9 to 8, except for the playlist problem.

I installed Snow Leopard the other day. It's been nothing but problems. First off my symantec was all f**ed up so i had to delete that. To add to that when I alt on startup (i have bootcamp) it says EFI startup and it does the firmware update thing with the progress bar underneath the spinning wheel. Now, it won't even go beyond the spinning wheel and log in. My Windows 7 (which was beautiful on Microsoft's part, they finally perfected the start bar) also got messed up and its been nothing but nightmares.

SNOW LEOPARD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Fixed that for ya. ;)
