Last christmas, I remember my cousin got an XS and showed me him washing his hands under running water with soap with it... yikes.

Never. Even though the iPhone is like a "work of art" naked, I am too clumsy with my hands. This is the first year I will be using a clear case though.

Apple's clear case for the 11 below. I assume the 11 Pro is similar. In the back shot, you can see the extra width of the case. It's slightly higher than the lens "bump". The front also is higher, overall increasing the width compared to a naked phone. Once on, these clear Apple cases are hard to remove. If you look closely at the front shot, you can see that I also have a glass screen protector.

These glass screen protectors tend to shatter if the phone is dropped. While I can't prove it, I think they also tend to break if the phone is carried in a back pocket while you sit on it. The good thing about the screen protectors is that they're cheap to replace. A pack of 3 costs $3-$4 on eBay.

With all my phones I have had goes like this;

1st day - Naked
2nd day - Freak out run to a store buy first available over priced case
3rd day - Shop online for another case that isn't so bulky
4th day - Naked again but phone is just to slippery
5th day - 2nd case on
7th day - Shop online again for a 3rd case because the second one gives the buttons a weird feel
9th day - Naked again
10th day - realize the 3rd case bought is worst than the first
11th day - switch to 2nd case
17th day - Naked again
18th day - Why is the phone so slippery
19th day - put on 2nd case again and shop online for a skin
21st day - rock the skin
27th day - try to put on 2nd case with skin on and the case doesn't fit. dang
27th evening - need to use the 1st case as its the only one that fits with skin on
28th day - remove skin and go back to 2nd case
35th day - Naked
36th day - shop for new skin
37th day - Have a moment where I almost drop it, immediately but on second case, cancel order for new skin.
39th day - order new case, the 4th
51th day - naked again
60th day - Buy the apple case
77th day - Naked again

Then I pretty much just rock skins the rest of the time with the random week of putting on one of the 5 cases I have.

Forgot to add,

Yesterday my phone was naked. Currently I am using the Grip2U slim case. It seems to be for me, a winner.....well for now that is.

I went caseless for the older, aluminum/plastic back iphone models, but the all glass ones? Definitely using a case for my 11 pro. Even with cases my iphone 8 still shattered when dropped on uneven pavement, and I am clumsy. Not happy with the added bulk of the case I got, though, so I'm going to hunt for something as minimalist as possible that still offers ok drop protection.

Yes, I have used my iPhone caseless for many years.... HOWEVER, this changes now.

Only 1 WEEK into having my new (gorgeous matte black) iP11 Pro, my yellow lab (yeah, that's him to the left as a pup in my avatar) jumped up on me knocking it out of my hand onto the tile floor from waist height, and there are now multiple cracks across the back and a chip taken out by the cameras.

With my iPXMax, it slipped out of my pocket while sitting on a patio chair onto travertine and shattered the back form a foot and a half drop.

I don't care what Apple (or any other manufacturer says) about durable glass, these bad boys just shatter even from a couple feet, especially if they land on a corner.

So, a case is on its way and then a trip to the Apple store for a replacement phone through AC+ which will set me back another $99. :(

I LOVE the raw look of the device and hate to cover it, but am done with the extra service fees every year!

I’ll try to explain.

when I need to swipe down on control center I use my right thumb when I’mholding it in my right hand. I normally use my pinkie at the bottom to hold the device. But, when I use my thumb to swipe down on control center, I have to let go ofsupport from my pinkie, hold the iPhone flatter so it doesn’t fall to the ground, and my three other fingers to grip the back while I’m using my thumb to swip

without a case it’s too slippery to this for me
Not all of have the same skill;) I have small hands and hold the max perfectly fine in one hand a lot of the time.

I put case on when i go to work otherwise 11 Pro Max naked.
I use the clear Ultra Hybrid.
I also drop it nightly falling asleep in chair onto carpet.
Never noticed a problem. Again only dropped like 2' feet onto carpet.

One thing I would never do is put a cheap piece of glass over this nice looking screen to degrade what I paid a lot to look at. (YMMV)

geezus sorry about that. at least this early in sales you know its a new phone from Apple even if out of brown box.
i was going to can the AppleCare this year but didn't. Funny as I choose the ATT Next Every Year as it was cheaper than the Apple Program. Then i buy the insurance now and its more expensive.
the $9.99 a month is painless to me but looking back Apple wins this gamble more then than not. and this new matte back is slicker than previous regular backs that my fingers could grip.

you don’t use reachability?

Naked they handle like a wet bar of soap. My case ads grip and feels more comfortable than the phone alone
naked for 90% of the time.

Returned the Apple Leather case, cause that's simply holding a bar of soap

What are you guys putting on your phones to cause this? Has anybody considered washing their greasy mitts?

I started out naked on my Pro but the leather case is just so much more comfortable to hold/use and it looks incredible once that patina starts to set in. Not once has my phone felt like a bar of soap.

what color leather case did you use

The ONLY reason I have the thinest case possible is to even out the camera bump. If it could lay flat on its back I would 100% go caseless.

When the camera bump first appeared on the 6 I thought for sure they would solve this problem in a year or 2. I am completely baffled that it just keeps growing bigger and bigger.

UPDATE:

I’ve gone caseless

you gotta live. Can’t be so scared. I’ve got insurance anyway so I have a backup plan of it breaks.

Insurance is for the scared! ;)

You ask yourself do you pull out the last second, go raw all the time? Is the risk worth looking at the potential damage(s)? Some people take these risks and some people don’t. I love the feeling of bareback but I am not about to pay for the outcome either.

How is that baffling? Camera quality increases come from sensor size increases. Not to mention the two additional modules. Makes perfect sense.

  • Buys $1,000 piece of glass
  • Carries glass around with them everywhere
  • Slides glass in and out of pants pocket/purse

Buys $60,000 vehicle
Drives vehicle on road with drunks, people texting, faulty vehicles and just plain idiots
Parks vehicle in random parking lots
$60,000 Car gets dinged, destroyed or stolen

Phone repairable for hundreds of dollars without insurance or $29 with insurance cost of $199.

Car repairable for hundreds of dollars (if lucky) with insurance cost of thousands upon thousands of dollars or lose thousands upon thousands of dollars without insurance.

I just tried to use my iPhone 11 pro with no case and there’s not enough grip for me to leave my pinky from the bottom while I extend my thumb to swipe down for control center, if that makes sense. The clear case gives me enough grip to do this.
Swipe downward from the middle of the dock. Reachability is one of my favorite features.

Can't argue with that. Well played.

For most of us, driving is the most dangerous thing we do on any given day.

Once you finally have the guts to go naked, and after a few months doing so without dropping, you feel the freedom and no longer have any fear. It truly is a wonderful experience. You can do it. Free yourselves!
