Those are not important for Samsung customers.

Seriously, show me a Galaxy S user who actually cares about OS updates (because if they did, they wouldn’t have bought a Samsung).

I cared with mine. I just knew that I would be updating phones before no OS update was available. Lots of people like that. And a lot of people really don't care about OS updates irregardless of the manufacturer.

I know we are 6 months out from September which is usually when Apple announces a new model, but it's odd there aren't even any rumors yet of a new iPhone... ??

Same limitations? Like what?
Like living in a cold climate and using gloves most of the time or people with trade jobs. My car mechanic or painter friends don't even bother using fingerprint scanners on their phones cause their fingerprints are so wore out by day by day work that those scanners never works. These and other issues do not exist with FaceID.

And people wear masks, hats, hoods, and etc in cold climates. I've heard plenty say that interferes with Face ID. I rather take off a glove for a split second vs removing any head wear. Either way both have it's pros and cons. I prefer a finger sensor.

If you feel the urge to keep up with the Joneses, by all means go ahead and keep throwing your $$$ at manufacturers.

For me though? I’m over it. There’s just too little innovation for as much as these companies are charging nowadays.

Oh sure... they wow you with presentations like their new phone is the next coming of christ, but for the most part it’s still just a smartphone.

Just the same old with an extra camera and 4D animoji and $200 bump in price :)

Honestly wouldn't surprise me. lol

If it's another ho-hum upgrade, I'll just pay off my X and keep it. This is seriously the perfect phone. :)

I like this video. Why? Because it's about the only video to be found on youtube that doesn't have some painfully obnoxious intro music/credits. Just gets to the point with no shrill crap. He makes good points too.

Generally there won’t be a lot of hardware leaks for 2019, because we already know what to expect physically what the phones will look like, especially given last year, they introduced the ‘Max’. This year the XR is expected to receive a dual camera, and a triple lens camera for the XS series. [And likely an additional color.]

I think that it’s important to always remember that smartphones as we know them today, regardless of brand, owe most of their lineage to the original iPhone. I think Apple’s true talent is not always in leading-edge technology (they do well there, too), but in packaging and refining it into a device or product that manages to tick all the checkboxes on a great user experience. When the first iPhone was introduced, all of the technologies that went into it already existed. The game-changer was how Apple made those technologies work together so fluidly.

Now with that out of the way, obviously the smartphone market is saturated with manufacturers in that relentless race to one-up each other. I do feel that Apple has introduced new iPhone models at times that were primarily developed to meet a yearly calendar cycle rather than refining technology innovation. No company can create revolutionary technological masterpieces every year, however presenting those products as revolutionary year by year, with prices to match, will always offer a potential vector to other companies to fill voids.

Nope. I upgraded my X to the XS Max today and am not in the least bit interested in anything Samsung put out, despite the numerous emails I receive to upgrade to the new devices at a discount.

I sold my Xs and got the Silver Max like a week or two ago. Welcome to the club.

A lot of people seem to be disappointed with this year’s iPhones, but this iPhone Max seems like the first iPhone in a while that I feel confident I can own for four years. Thing is an absolute beast, I like it more and more each week. IPad hardware remains best in class, and iMacs are still pretty cool.

The only area where I think Apple has really fallen behind us in the laptop / hybrid area, where Surface seems to be kicking ass and where the new laptops aren’t that compelling. I feel like my 2015 MacBook Pro is a better laptop than what Apple is currently selling. iPads are awesome due to the the apps, big screen and iOS integration but I am going to likely add a Surface go as a productivity travel companion. If the laptop situation doesn’t improve in the next two years I will go back to Microsoft for that.

What are the innovative things which make S10 so much better than Xs? Serious question. I don't see any game changers.

I’d rather have a chromebook than go back to windows.

So whether a manufacturer updates their phones or not, it's inconsequential for you. Samsung knows this, so why should they put more effort into updating their phones? Thus back to my point, Samsung do what they do because they know their customers, and updates are not important for their customers' buying decision.

It’s a good question, but I guess it depends on what someone’s definition of innovative is. You have to give credit to Samsung with at least contributing to the finger print reader under the display, considering it was rumored for months that they were having technical issues implementing that originally to be on the Note 9. Either way, it’s what a lot of iPhone users have been requesting for quite some time, when Apple clearly went with Face ID. So the fact that they were able to execute some thing it has its appeal and purpose eliminating things like Face ID, notches, for some, that’s innovative enough. But again, that depends what others definition of ‘innovative’ is.

I would disagree.

The hybrid form factor went nowhere. Many PC OEMs copied the Surface form factor at first thinking that's going to be the trend, but look today, hardly any OEMs care about that form factor anymore. Most re-focus their efforts in the traditional laptop form factors. All Surface ads show the Surface with the keyboard always attached. Majority Surface users I've met use the Surface as a laptop. Even Microsoft is not so confident on that form factor that hey did the Surface book and Surface laptop instead. Heck, now Microsoft even stops bundling the pen with Surface Pro (which was one of its main selling point), making it an extra purchase.

Apple did it right by making the retina Macbook Air. Apple's problem is more of confusing lineup, where there are too many 12-13" laptops overlapping each other (13" retina Macbook Air, the old 13" Macbook Air, 12" retina Macbook, and the 13" redesigned Macbook Pro). Apple really need to simplify their lineup.

As the leader in market share, they're doing something right.

I own a S9+ and a Note 9 as well as a Note 8, all of which I am still using. I upgraded the Note 9 and S9+ to Pie, tried it out for about two weeks and then went back to Oreo. I have had to disable the OS updates which means I will not move beyond the December security update but I'm fine with that.

I used a rooted Note 4 and a rooted Note edge for several years and being rooted meant that I no longer received updates on those phones either and I never worried about anything. I even have a rooted Note 5 still that hadn't seen a security update in the year I used it because just like the Note 4/Note Edge, those phones were rooted pretty much upon purchasing.

Why wasn't I worried about security? Because I didn't do anything risky such as side loading pirated apps. Otherwise, I had no doubt that Samsung phones were as secure as iPhones. This year, I am skipping the S10+ and I may or may not skip the Note 10 but security on Samsung phones has never ever been an issue for me in all these years. To me, it's just as secure as the iPhone.

I have two AT&T XS max, one of them still new in the box and the opened one is sitting on 12.1.1 waiting to see if there may be a jailbreak soon for it. The unopened one is also sitting there for the same reason and it's probably on 12.1.

See at nearly the same way. Had my iPhone 6 for four years and after the 1 GB RAM gets a little tight and the phone sluggish I got the XR for the next four years to come. My main computer is my iMac 5k 2017 with i7 and 1TB SSD that replaced may 7 year old iMac before and it will last hopefully the same. My MacBook Pro is from 2012 and is the last one that has a modular construction that enabled replacing RAM and storage. So it has 16 GB RAM and 512GB SSD now and is still fully usable with its Quad Core i7 and nVideo GPU. Hope to still find these landmark Apple devices in the future but it seems more difficult with this glued and soldered notebooks and crappy butterfly keyboards.

My iPad 12.9 gen2 is still my most loved device (no need to upgrade soon because I don't see much improvement with gen3) but Apple needs to add more productivity to it soon. Waiting for some years for that and got me a Surface Go now as a workaround and a lighter and more portable alternative to the 2012 MBP. Need it only for support and configuration tasks on the road so the performance is no problem. Sometimes I take a 24" display with me which works fine with the USB-C port and dock of the Go (compared to the iPad which does not allow an extended display and mouse support).

So I have the iPP together with the Surface Go with me and a MacBook Pro for special occasions. if somebody creates a better concept for this I am tempted to go for it. Hope this will be Apple.....

I would expect any iPhone to be able to easily last 4 years, especially the XS Max which is pretty much double the investment of previous iPhones available. I think the XS Max is a really good phone, but probably wouldn’t buy it personally. I think it’s good to have such a wide range of models available at this point.

Until a wearable comes along that is as good as the Apple Watch, I’m in the Apple ecosystem. I think the Apple Watch will go down as Apple’s most important product for humanity, and while I’ve tried to leave the ecosystem before and loved the various Android devices I tried, there was no equal to the Apple Watch that I could find. And I tried nearly all of them.

I'm one of those people, Just upgraded from 6 plus last week to an iPhone Xr and the upgrade is amazing. I had update my 6 plus to iOS 12 and it brings new life to it, Can't say the same for an Android phone like the S10 if it will have the latest software 2 years from now.
