... wow

500 apps is ALOT

seriously, THIS RIGHT HERE means the iPhone will pwn. I hate to be a fanboy btu there is NOTHING competitors can do anymore.

It wouldnt matter if some company made a phone with EVERY feature as the iPhone, plus extra features buut cost half the price (unsubsidized) it still wouldnt kill the iPhone. Simply because there is no way a competitor could get 4000 developers (and growing) all developing for thier phone. In fact this is a situation ONLY APPLE could succesfully pull off.

Well done apple, you are changing the world ONCE again, is there ANY stopping this company anymore? I used to think Google would one day rule the tech world but now im thinking maybe apple will.

I still predict in long run future its gonna be a battle between Google/Apple... UNLESS microsoft really picks their game up because every year Apple adds another BIG reason why micrsoft is embarassing themselves.

I think I totally underestimated how cool many of these apps are going to be.

And perhaps, how much money I am going to spend on these apps this weekend. :)

he updated his post right about the time I wrote mine

Oh I see...thats true...in my quote of arn on the previous page he did say 2.5 hours. I thought I had read that, then it was changed and then I thought I was going crazy since it didn't have any edits. I guess if you're the guy who runs the site then it doesn't show that it was edited. Must be nice to have such god-like superpowers! Lol. He is probably used to writing 2.5g over the past year.

If I understand this correctly, with Pandora you can enter your own radio station streams and listen on the go, ala iTunes radio?

Because if so... Damn that's awesome.

You first type in an artist or song you like, then it starts to play songs like that song from that artist and other artists as well. Its pretty damn good at picking songs. Think you only can use it in the US though.

Yeah, you just type in your favorite artist, song or composer and it creates a custom radio station with music that is similar to that type of music. My ex got me hooked on it for awhile last summer. I haven't used it as much lately but I will use it for sure on the 3g!

Bring it on.

I'm glad I'm not working tomorrow morning AND I live on the West Coast. 9 am sounds great to me. A little coffee, a little oatmeal, a little firmware and apps download. Sounds like a good morning to me.... :)

Haha, same here. I live on the West Coast and don't have to work until noon. This should be a good morning...

Breathe man, breathe ;)

I agree that this thing takes off like a rocket, and that the platform is the best around, but to say that competitors are out of the picture... Read this:

NY Times said:
Apple has a substantial way to go to catch its competitors. Palm, Microsoft, R.I.M., Nokia and Symbian have all enticed developers to write software for their smartphone operating systems. Palm, for example, says that it has 30,000 active software developers, and Microsoft said last month that it had more than 18,000 applications available for its Windows Mobile operating system, which is available from 160 cellular carriers around the world.

Apple still has a long way to go, but they are definitely in the fastest car towards the finish line.

the radio site won't work outside of U.S.

damn..now I have to figure out a Tor for iphone..

damn

How much money are you guys planning to spend on the app store? I'm budgeting $50-75, but might not spend it all tomorrow. I'm just afraid this app store is really going to drain my bank account throughout the rest of its existence.

Could it be a geo-filtered launch? And if so, when someone posts the firmware online would it be possible to use that version on a North American iPhone or would that mess up the baseband or something else problematic?

See thats what I think. The app store button I've seen on the new firmware, says "The App Store is not supported in this country."

Meaning they have the capability to roll it out country by country if they so chose to do so, just like itunes has country specific stores.

i would like an application that i have on my to-be-replaced-tomorrow-morning nokia n80 (s60v3): based on where i am (it uses the cell of the network for that) it switches profile, sends sms, and turns on/off bluetooth.
my boss never bitched about MY cellphone rining. :)
