I'm glad I'm not working tomorrow morning AND I live on the West Coast. 9 am sounds great to me. A little coffee, a little oatmeal, a little firmware and apps download. Sounds like a good morning to me.... :)

so is everyone in agreement that the 2.0 firmware is coming out at the same time that the store launches? or is the store just launching for the new zealand customers? i thought we had to wait until friday.

Swweeet, Im buying Super Monkey Ball and the MLB Apps First!

:apple:What will be your first App Store Purchase???:apple:

should i download 2.0 or stick with jailbreak+installer? i mean you can't argue with free, right?

you can when the sdk apps kick the crap out of most of the jailbroken ones. i mean PANDORA for crying out loud. that is amazing. i am getting so excited. facebook too...holy crap. i'm hoping for a neat gallery viewer in the fb app that lets you pinch to zoom and more integration with location based information.

Honestly if apple really wants this device to fly even faster off shelves, its in their best interests to launch it a bit early, so people can feast their eyes on the apps available.

I see no reason the firmware has to wait for the new iPhone. Afterall the app store and 2.0 software works on the old iPhone.

The 2.0 software will be out at the same time the app store goes live.

Besides the app store is in the 2.0 software.

I wonder how in the world that handshake gesture to transfer business cards from one iPhone to the next would even work? I'm guessing both users would have accounts set up with FriendBook. When they do the gesture, FriendBook would get both GPS positions, and share the information with the iPhone in their registration that is also doing the same gesture and is within closest proximity? Is that right?

If this is Jobs` "greatest launch ever", even surpassing the Mac launch some 24 years ago, there will be good times ahead for Apple and iPhone OS X.

Can´t wait for 2.0, but I´ll stick to my 1st gen for a good while.

super monkey ball for iPhone!

being the SEGA fanboy that i am - i'm waiting till they have a press release in a month stating they have sold 1 million downloads of super monkey ball at $9.99 each. ::crosses fingers:: it'll be the flagship game for the App Store! just wait and see!

I'm hoping that is true. Will I be able to try out the apps on my 1st gen iPhone tomorrow and then transfer them to the 3g on Friday? Or will I have to buy them all over again? I'd really like to try them out ASAP but don't want to pay twice.

This a big launch in the sense that it is the opening of a new platform. Essentially it can be compared to when computers were opened up to software/applications. This is huge! I really believe, just after seeing some of the demos that this will really be revolutionary. Even the most simple of things look amazing. I am crying with tears of joy right now. No joke.

Bonjour.

Probably not. I think you're overcomplicating it.

It would probably just transfer over wifi from iPhone to iPhone. The handshake gesture (shaking the iPhones) would be like pressing 'transfer' buttons on both iPhones.

Well, originally I thought that too. But a lot of times when I'm out and about I have the wifi turned off. I will most surely have it off during the day now that 3g is coming. It could be possible that it would briefly activate the radio to send the signal, but I wasn't sure if the SDK allowed for a settings override like that. I thought the wifi switch turned the radio off cold.

Ebook Reader App....I Hope!

I'm sincerely hoping that one of those apps will be either eReader or Mobipocket ported to the iPhone. Not being able to read ebooks on mine is the ONLY drawback for me to my iPhone.

I'm one of those odd people not looking to upgrade to 3G. But I would rather have 16g on my old one instead of 8. I don't suppose I can still get an older version with more memory?

2.0 will be coming out on Friday.

"Requires iPhone 2.0 Software Update (available July 11)."

July 11th in New Zealand (where iPhone 3G is launching) happens in about 5 hours.

Jailbroken now equals "for the fail".

I can't wait until tomorrow morning. It's like an APPLE CHRISTMAS!! (Or whatever you happen to celebrate.) :apple:

PS. I can't wait to control iTunes from my iPhone!!

Could it be a geo-filtered launch? And if so, when someone posts the firmware online would it be possible to use that version on a North American iPhone or would that mess up the baseband or something else problematic?

Way to be politically correct :)

Tomorrow, will be a good day. Hopefully, even without an iphone, we will get a chance to browse the app store before making our 3g purchase.
