although he was wrong about the mini update and he was adamant that the leaked image was fake* and was very hostile to those who believed it was real.

*even though it turned out to be real

He and everyone else had every right think it was fake. Anyone seeing just a picture would be a fool to immediatly take it as fact.

I'm sorry, but Tallest has a great record for being knowledgeable on this site, you seem to pop up on the few instances hes wrong and then go on about how hes always wrong. I just dont get it.

It will be nice when iPhone OS 3.0 comes out and we can start having one app instead of multiple for any time a developer wants to charge more for extra content. Its crazy when you basically have dozens of apps that are all EXACTLY the same except each one has different content depending on what you want. I'm guessing that will cut the number of apps in the store by at least half.

You mean you have a full screen of Call Joe, Call Mike, Call Dan, Call Kelly.... apps? Problem with 3.0 is that they are still not allowing developers to give away free trials and sell upgrades. They insist that a free should stand on its own.

Most of the problems with the apps in the app store are as a result of the restrictions that apple has put in place. There would be no need for developer X to create 40 different apps with different names if for example you were allowed to create shortcuts to apps with parameters.

Say you were wrong, and we can get on with it...

I guess you were the kid in class that shoved your higher test scores in the face of others instead of being the better man and remaining humble?.....

I'd DIE laughing if Cook got on stage and announced the billionth app was ifart mobile.

Nope, I'm the guy who looks the other guy in the eye and says, "I'm sorry, I was wrong..."

So... I guess that Apple, who said that up to 25 apps per day count as entries into the contest, are ignorant.

Apple also said that even if you did enter 25 times a day your chances of winning were not increased - in other words, someone that put in 25 entries a day had no more chance of winning than a person that entered only once. That statement, which was indeed made by Apple, does not make any sense if the winner is supposed to be a person that just entered during the entire contest period; it only makes sense if it is the person that bought the billionth app, as that's the only way people could enter without it "increasing their chance of winning" (the only other reason is highly illogical and doesn't make sense when looking through Apple's terms - that your 25 entries for a day only went towards one single entry still, but then if you entered a 26th time it totally nullified said entry, but that doesn't make sense anyway so I'll stop :p).

I'm not saying your wrong, one of us is but I'm not pointing any fingers, but what I just said above justifies that it is the billionth buyer that won more than the other people that merely said "Z0MG ITS IN THEIR RULEZ SO IM RIIIITE!". I'm not stating that to give you the impression that 'it's what I think and therefore everyone else is wrong and can burn in hell', I'm just trying to give you a different view of the matter using other parts of Apple's terms without copying and pasting that single sentence with a hundred '9's in it :p

Your other post says otherwise....

Anyway, does anyone else agree that the countdown page was simply just a running count up and not an actual representation of downloads?

Yes. That was decided a few pages back, since you could have several pages open all displaying very different numbers.

Are we all in agreement that the prize winner was the billionth app downloader, or the person who sent in the non-purchase online entry after the 999,999,999th app download? Good.

Yes now we are just trying to decide if it was ifart or leaf trombone that was the billionth app:p

It is one of the apps I tried with... Hope so...:p

If you win im forcibly taking the winnings from you, no ill will intended, just prepare to be swooped down on with a fury the likes of which you have never seen before :)

I didnt even try:(

Bring it on... I'm ready.;)

Just remember, you cant see ninjas in the shadows. Unless of course you collect your winnings in broad daylight, then ill just look ridiculous standing there in black cloaking.:p

Well I probably didn't win because I was at the library the whole time this was going on. I wonder though, if some member of this forum won....

My attitude here is "Good for Apple, but what's it in it for the consumer?" The answer is not much. App Store/iPhone is a huge success, who cares? This was marketing/PR stunt, not important news. I don't really care how many Apps have been downloaded.

Does anyone really beleive that Apple had a live counter that is directly linked up with app purchases?

It was a count-up animation, thats all. When apple actually got their billionth is when it was over, not when that animation hit 1000000000

I imagine that the billionth app was downloaded long before the countdown was over. The countdown was a great means to just have a shopping frenzy at a particular time.

Now let's see how quickly they get to 2 billion. That should come much faster. The iPhone is about to displace the DS as the top selling handheld gaming (yes, many will buy it just for the games) system. :D

The iPhone might become more "popular" than the DS, but the DS is a way better gaming system. I mean common - Super Mario 64, great graphics, excellent gameplay (with buttons) - can't get that on iPhone.
