Someone ask Steve Jobs if it's the real thing :p
You'll know it's legit when you read stories about some Chinese guys jumping out windows (not that China was the primary leak this time around, but I have a feeling they'll jump anyway).

i think thats a controlled leak.

found in a bar, almost no info on memory, display-resolution, processor.. smells a bit fishy imho. the published info should keep us interested till release (probably too many people buying android-devices lately)..

just my thoughts...

There was lots of information on memory. How would you expect there to be information on display-resolution - if you found some random phone could you tell the resolution just by looking at the screen?

Gizmodo down?

Anybody else find it interesting that this is the last story Gizmodo has posted today? When was the last time that Gizmodo went 2 hours without posting a new article on a weekday?

I personally do not believe this was meant to be found. I am not going to even fathom to guess at the truth of the bar incident.

But...

 to my knowledge has NEVER let such a slip occur. Their walled garden is built upon secrecy, NDA's, and black cloaks. For crying out loud, why would SJ allow his thunder to be stolen before the announcement? It makes completely no sense at all, and I cannot be sold otherwise.

So, either this is 100% a mistake made by an Apple employee (and if so, they know exactly whom, you can guarantee that.)

Or, it is the most devious thing they have done to mark the wrong trail; and that would be mind boggling.

Also to the people saying they want a bigger screen, I'd like one too but I think you guys are severely underestimating what a screen this size such a high resolution will be like. Everything would look so ultra real like it's popping out in-front of you, I can't even picture it really.

Can't wait to see it in person, or at least HD video of it running.

It has been reported lost

a unit Apple is very interested in getting back

Obviously someone found it, and here it is

gizmodo said:
But after playing with it for about a week

And finally, when we opened it up

So you knew it was lost. You knew who the owner was, and that they were looking for it. You then decided to destroy their property.

Disgusting.

Maybe Apple is realizing it is losing a lot of sales to Android phones.

isn't there a regulation for new mobile phones in the eu to decrease the mountains of useless charging cables?

https://www.macrumors.com/2009/06/2...usb-connectors-for-iphone-charging-in-europe/

hmmm...
Yeah, but Apple will probably solve that with an adapter rather than put dual connectors on all iPhones around the world. Micro-USB will only be for charging, I don't see Apple replacing all functionality of the 30-pin with USB (given their penchant for replacing standard connectors like DVI with something infernally small like Mini Display Port, they probably have a good reason for using something large-ish like the 30-pin).

Apple leaked this device on purpose knowing full well that it would create buzz and get them heaps of free "advertising" in the Worlds newspapers. They do it every time and Mac Rumors et al. take the bait - always.

Kinda sad ...

How is it sad? What do you mean take the bait?

Reality check buddy. this website is called macRUMORS.com
This is a MAC RUMOR they are reporting on. How is this sad in anyway? Regardless of whether its an intentional leak or not. Why are you even here?

Anyway with that said I agree that the lines are there for the prototype and for easy access to internals by engineers testing the device. Highly doubt user removable battery will be in final version.

I'm convinced this is a real leak. And might even been in possesion of high up ATT engineer or employee. Apple really doesn't need to intentionally leak something at this level. If they wanted to leak somtehing they could have leaked specs or blurry images intentionally but not a complete entire prototype phone. Thats way different than any leak apple has ever had.

Other than that i think it looks pretty nice. I miss the chrome bezel style of older iphones though.

if that ceramic/glass backing really improves reception, I am sold. I don't care if it is ugly, not dropping calls would be great :D

I will never buy the iphone if it looked that way!!!!!!!

Good lord!!!

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you know it was a slow news weekend. Almost nothing on any of my favorite tech sites like Macrumors, Engadget etc. So I'm suspecting They are compensating by introducing crap just to draw in CLICK TRAFFIC.

The only reason i think this iPhone could just be a prototype/dummy shell (with the real hardware inside) for software teams to work on the OS is because the iPad picture. If you look, the iPad is heavily camouflaged and the actual design is hidden for users around the test bed (at that point, they would be testing software on the production units). In that same picture you see this new iPhone on the table for everyone to see. This is similar to the reports we had heard about the original iPhone during it's design phase. Software teams worked on dummy hardware, hardware teams worked with dummy software.

But the evidence in the Gizmodo article strongly suggest this "prototype" being very close to the final design.
The photographs of the internals shows that it was very carefully constructed and indeed something designed and built by Apple.

However, we have no way of knowing if this is actually the final design or not. Presumably, Apple builds multiple prototypes, so this might just be one of several candidate designs.

I wouldn't put it past Apple to intentionally "drop" a bogus design. Those guys are crafty.

I believe this is a carefully orchestrated publicity stunt, a deliberate leak to let the tech press go on a wild goose chase.

Wait...

So the report suggests that the owner of this 'device' just happened to leave it in a bar? Oh please.

[A] Why would you take the successor of a multi-million selling product to a bar?

Why would you take the prototype successor of a multi-million selling product to a bar?

[C] How could anyone just leave such an important device in a bar?

[D] Do you think Apple staff just galavant out with prototype products?

Its complete twoddle. A fake just obviously just 'left' there in the knowledge that it would spread fast on the net. The same reason S.Jobs only replies to random emails with a couple of sentences - one message and millions will have read it.

Um, they do field testing. The first iPhone was seen out all over the place. AT&T employees also get iPhones to test the cellular network. So they do take the phone out and use it normally to get a feel for real-world conditions.

Now, leaving it in a bar seems suspect, but not entirely impossible. They are simply humans and who knows... maybe it fell out of a pocket, was stolen, etc.

Hi! This is a comment about the leaked iphone 4g. It says something about the fact that's different from how everyone expected it to be and something about features that were left out. It also contains a couple witty remarks!

Back to the grave :apple:

LoL to folks saying this is a deliberate leak.

I'm with Gruber, it's all way too convenient. If there's a reason Apple haven't issued a cease & desist it's probably because they're talking to the feds first.

You know how much I'd laugh if the 4th gen iPhone looked COMPLETELY different than this or kept the same 3GS design? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Maybe it really is some Chinese knock-off phone and that's why they don't wanna show you any pictures of it on.

Thanks. Greatly Appreciated.

Do you see it as a possibility for Apple to release iPhones unlocked to people who desire it this way?

They already do. If I walk into my local Apple store with a pocket full of cash they give me an iPhone with no carrier lock and give me a wave goodbye. No contracts, no locks and they don't care what I do with it. That is what all consumers should insist upon.

Well I like it. It looks a lot more phone-like, which I suppose is a good thing. The new feature list sounds ace too.

I've never been in the market for an iPhone though so I hope a lot of these features make their way to the iPod touch!

Wow. It's amazing how people say this stuff then get it anyway and love it. I think it looks different from what Apple always does... change is good sometimes

Other than that i think it looks pretty nice. I miss the chrome bezel style of older iphones though.
Yeah, but the chrome really wasn't consistent with anything else in their current product line -- I'm guessing it was a leftover from old iPods that had a chrome back. When anything from Apple is metal these days, that metal is aluminum, and this new design matches iPad/MBP/new iMac much better.

Every.Single.Time a new apple product comes out there is this tiny group of people who won't shut up about how ugly they think it is, and then they are nowhere to be found when the device is actually released and people own it...

...that is until it comes time for the next refresh, then back they come.
