has anyone thought that maybe since this is a prototype apple needs to have the lines there for quick access to the battery since they are still testing everything, but the final product will have the same non-user replaceable battery???
From the looks of the phone, I just can't imagine that this is the new design. The visible screws, located on the bottom of the phone next to the speakers, particularly bother me (see this picture: http://cache-04.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/4/2010/04/iphone8.jpg). It just doesn't seem consistent with the flush, unibody feel the iPhone currently has.
Only June will tell.
to my knowledge has NEVER let such a slip occur.
Maybe Apple is realizing it is losing a lot of sales to Android phones.
i really like it, and, as my 3G contract is due to expire, plan to get one
i don't believe the story, though. i just can't believe that anyone would 1) take the phone off campus, and 2) lose it at a bar. it just seems too implausible that anyone with access to a prototype would be so careless. i wonder if it was stolen? that whoever has it was apparently going to charge people for hands-on time makes me very suspicious...
anyway, i can't imagine anyone in cupertino is in a good mood today.
There's a first time for everything.!

I call bs---no chance this is the next iphone....sorry guys, but this doesnt seem to have that apple fit and finish. Im not saying the internals arent new, but the case doesnt fit any other design trend within the company...

I love how many people are talking about how ugly the phone is when 99% of you are going to slap a case on it anyways and have only the screen showing.
****!
This phone looks fantastic, and I'd snap one up. Lots of business users looked at the original iphone as a bit of a toy focussed on games and stuff. With this kind of heavy-duty casing wrapped around and a bunch of business apps installed I guarantee you there will be a much bigger take up of these phones in businesses everywhere.
or like every new apple product, people will say what you're saying, then retract it when they have seen it in person. I'm gonna go with that since it happens every.damn.time.
Being a prototype, it was likely wiped by Apple's corporate remote wipe feature and not MobileMe. Therefore, they know which employee lost it.
You know Jobs has to be furious.
I'm hopeful the exterior of this "device" isn't what the new iPhone will look like, but is instead a fake casing (as many have alluded to). This would be similar to a car maker covering a new model with black trash bags during test drives to throw off inevitable gawkers.
It would account for the authentic materials Gizmodo uncovered when they took it apart, in that it is in fact an actual, working model, and from the looks of the listed features would be great news for those concerned with its specs.

Just actually noticed your name. Is that a Hitchcock reference?
