Forget iPad and Arrandale, THIS is the story of the year from Apple. And to think it all started at a San Jose bar :D

it doesn't look too bad next to the current phone but could use freshening up for final production.

Does anyone else thing SJ is going to just ditch this version of the iPhone b/c it was leaked?

As a side note, i think the internals are right on. I think the case isn't the final case. They wouldn't allow so many seams. It is very Apple like to put new hardware in a crappy case to allow for "real-world" testing.

Does anyone really believe SJ would allow a fully finished product to walk out the door at this early date?

If it is real, I be he's pissed and will tell everyone they can screw themselves, fire all workers at apple, and run the company himself......

Ok, maybe not THAT kind of reaction, (a little over-the-edge), but if it IS real, then we are saddened, and it might be best it doesn't come out...

why did engadget say the tipster found it in a bar in san jose and gizmodo is stating it was found in a bar in redwood?

Were Apple employees dropping phones in bars throughout cali ???

Only way I'll even consider this is if it comes to Verizon. I like the look of the 3GS I have now - I just hate the provider.

Amen.

I'm really liking the case. The sides seem a bit un-Apple-esque (which is entirely OK), but I'm getting Apple vibes from the rest.

I'm betting the glass back is going to incorporate some multi-touch gestures! Doesn't Apple have a patent for that?

Duuude, I was thinking the exact same thing.

1. Steve is eccentric
2. Apple is in a position financially, to be able to abandon this iPhone just to teach the public a lesson.

If the iPhone 4G has a front facing camera, it seems almost certain that the next generation iPad will have one too. For those that say the iPad doesn't need a camera and it would be awkward to use, it's the same thing on a cellphone.

How come Engadget had some really blurry pictures of this, but Gizmodo has had it for a week and is able to produce clear photos?

Please explain? Thanks. :)

With the amount of money they've undoubtedly spent on the new iPhone, with the annual refresh cycle that their customers are used to, and with WWDC just a couple of months away, there's no way Jobs would ditch this even if it's legitimate. No one would be stupid enough to piss away all of that work and money just because of a leak. Not to mention losing a LOT of goodwill with his customers.

This is very unlikely to be a prototype

This is unlikely to be a prototype. Prototypes would never leave the lab.

However, it is normal for field testing to begin about ten weeks before sales launch. For late June, that time is now.

In the case of the first iPhone, about 200 people got one for secret field testing.

Every phone was given what is called a "sock", which is a rubber case designed to camouflage it as some other device or model.

This phone meets those descriptions, so it could very well be a field test unit.

I have mixed feelings. I like the flat back, that's a huge improvement imho. Still no SD slot or removable battery. At this point I think it's safe to say I may just get a droid.

I don't think Apple could wait another year for a replacement for the aging 3G and 3GS.

Those phones are already far behind the market.

Can we get the haters from the previous thread that thought it was a fake to apologize to engadget and gizmodo?

We know who you are

your passion is great but don't knock those sites for doing their job

The case is a test mule.
Like any good terrorist organization, Apple is fully compartmentalized.
No one working on the internals has the final case design and vice versa.
If the back is really a new material, then it is on there to test, but that frame, is just not a final product. As in 0% chance.

The funny thing is that some (former) Apple engineer was out testing the thing in public, leaves the bar and doesn't think...

"Hey where's that prototype iPhone I'm supposed to be *real* careful with."

Good resume material: I'm the dumb*ss who lost the iPhone prototype, you hiring?

yeah right

so apple goes through so much trouble to protect the ipad, yet this iphone is found in a bar.... common.

PLus it looks very very ugly.

for those whining about the seams; that is NOT the final case. There will be no seams on the final case.

I think it looks better than the black plastic toy look of the 3G and 3GS. This is starting to look classy (not quite there). Probably just a prototype tho. Seams will be sealed etc. Hoping for a matte finish to the back, not shiny.

i'm not going to even read the comments on this forum, but i bet everyone is still crying "FAKE FAKE FAKE, THAT'S PHOTOSHOP!!!"

Smaller screen? That's a joke right? I don't dislike the design, but the screen needs to go up in size as well as resolution, not just resolution.
