Couldn't they have taken a high-res picture of the "Connect to iTunes" screen? Or did Apple kill that too?
Interesting if they would be able to do a "remote firmware wipe."
Personally, I hope that feature comes to the end-user so a lost or stolen iPhone couldn't be used, EVER. As someone who lost an iPhone recently, even though the remote wipe killed all the data, I know someone else is enjoying it right now as their new iPhone. Imagine if the device could actually be registered with the original user, and no matter what SIM is in there, it could still be disabled when authenticating to a cellular or Wi-Fi network. That would be awesome.
Another reason why CDMA/Verizion is better than GSM/AT&T for this single purpose. Once phone is reported as lost or stolen it is unable to be re-registered to the network and becomes bricked.
Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone and the AT&T service is great, but it leaves much to be desired. Not only do I never get signal in my basement when all my friends Droids do, but even when I get service or it shows I have service, it doesn't work or I have very large errors. I would rather sacrifice some of my 3g speed for reliability and coverage! Anyway, the 3g speed is not the current bottleneck on the phone, the processors are.
Anyway, more on topic. I like all the new features that this phone adds, but I am not really digging some of the design changes. I don't mind the fact that it is more squared and not tapered off like the 3GS where it is thin and gets thicker in the middle. In fact, I welcome it as it provides more room for guts, ie: battery, processor, ram, etc...
HOWEVER, I am not digging the removable battery as it ruins the design, I know some people would like this, but I don't find the battery being non-removable for a cell-phone an issue. By the time it needs to be replaced I will already be on or ready for a new iPhone. Some people say they would hot-swap batteries, but I doubt it, I would rather have a non-removable, larger battery. And if one were to carry an extra battery, they can just as easily carry a juice pack to recharge the battery...
Another gripe with the new design is the volume buttons. I don't like how they are separated. This would force me to look at the phone to know which one I am pressing, up or down volume, with the current one I can feel which one is up or down. Also, the circle buttons I fear may not stand the test of time as well and look a bit fishy if you ask me.
Ultimately, this is where I stand on the product. If the current design stands I think I will hold off until my AT&T contract is up on my 3GS to make the switch to the model that follows this in 2011, and if possible, switch to Verizion, or remain with the better 4G network (which at that time will only be Sprint or Verizion, AT&T 4G network deployment won't start until late 2011.)
If this product offers significantly more reliability with respect to the network and longer battery life, I will consider making the switch.
I will leave you guys off with a rumor to discuss. With the backing of the next-generation iPhone speculated to change to a "glass" or some other surface type. Do you think that they will include some type of functionality like the macbook trackpad or the magic mouse that enables multi-touch or scrolling. I think it would revolutionize browsing on the iPhone, especially with one hand. And not only that, but it offers a whole slew of options for gaming on the iPhone with more controls. Speak!
