Duuude, I was thinking the exact same thing.

1. Steve is eccentric
2. Apple is in a position financially, to be able to abandon this iPhone just to teach the public a lesson.

Lol punish the public for reading about a lost test phone?

See a fanboy like u would be okay with that.

You clearly exemplify the smugness and elitism that apple and fanboys believe they have

Just enjoy the news - it's fun to speculate

I love it.

Time to post the hilarious quotes from the last thread.

This has to be my favorite, a post titled by the user as "deductive logic"

There is absolutely no possible way this is 4. Apple would not allow such a weak piece of industrial design sport their elite marquee. Jesus ****ing christ, it is understood to be stored predominantly in pocket, that's why its smooth, weathered shape has been become more so through the two generations. That thing looks like it was born by Zenith. Jesus ****ing christ.

How could Macrumors.com, my favoritest website ever, publish 3 sequential main page articles about this obviously fictitious farce on my lazy Sunday? Oh wait… Hold on… Pretty clear here; because they are a tool of Apple inc, ya know, by giving Mr. Kim "candy." Propagating this silliness is in big fruits best interest, as the real one might better melt panties in comparison with this product design student at community college, hungover deadline throw-together. The eyelet ringing the headphone jack is an obvious Apple no-do. It's not a cassette WalkMan, right? Jesu…

Basic homo-sapien logic deduces as far as much that the new item will have a button on the side that shortcuts immediately to camera, or other assignable app of user choosing. Holding button will call up "photos." Everybody knows that - even elderly, possibly out of touch, technology columnists for a prominent southern Manhattan publication.

Have a good day.

You and countless other apple design "experts" just got told. Just shows you guys know nothing.

"bu bu bu but its so ugly! It cant be real! Apple would never make such a thing. Use logic people!"

Now you all look like morons. Hope next time you'll think twice about sharing your oh so wise wisdom with us.

Rumor a while back was Verizon demanded a removable battery before they'd support the iPhone.
Here it comes...

Now when it seams that leak is legit everyone loves the new iPhone yet only couple of posts earlier everyone hated it!

Hahahahahahahaha :D

Apple fanboiz are pathetic!

:p

I still prefer the tapered design. It looks ok from certain angles but I'm not a fan of the boxy design and all those seams.

Micro-SIM

I assume the use of micro-SIM means one could use the same SIM, and same account, for the iPhone and the iPad?

Couldn't they have taken a high-res picture of the "Connect to iTunes" screen? Or did Apple kill that too?

Interesting if they would be able to do a "remote firmware wipe."

Personally, I hope that feature comes to the end-user so a lost or stolen iPhone couldn't be used, EVER. As someone who lost an iPhone recently, even though the remote wipe killed all the data, I know someone else is enjoying it right now as their new iPhone. Imagine if the device could actually be registered with the original user, and no matter what SIM is in there, it could still be disabled when authenticating to a cellular or Wi-Fi network. That would be awesome.

If they did that on a standard iPhone, one that's available in stores now, you could plug it into iTunes and get the firmware re-installed. No such build exists for this yet.

Well it looks like k that the s*** has hit the fan. Gruber is saying that Gizmodo purchased this a week ago and it was actually stolen from Apple HQ.

http://daringfireball.net/linked/2010/04/19/gizmodo-rumors

I can't wait to see what Apple legal has to say about this.

Was just going to post this. It looks like this is real. The picture of it in the plastic 3gs case make it look exactly like the phone that was on top of the iPad. Without the case, it looks exactly like the phone that was next to the iPad.

Another reason why CDMA/Verizion is better than GSM/AT&T for this single purpose. Once phone is reported as lost or stolen it is unable to be re-registered to the network and becomes bricked.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone and the AT&T service is great, but it leaves much to be desired. Not only do I never get signal in my basement when all my friends Droids do, but even when I get service or it shows I have service, it doesn't work or I have very large errors. I would rather sacrifice some of my 3g speed for reliability and coverage! Anyway, the 3g speed is not the current bottleneck on the phone, the processors are.

Anyway, more on topic. I like all the new features that this phone adds, but I am not really digging some of the design changes. I don't mind the fact that it is more squared and not tapered off like the 3GS where it is thin and gets thicker in the middle. In fact, I welcome it as it provides more room for guts, ie: battery, processor, ram, etc...

HOWEVER, I am not digging the removable battery as it ruins the design, I know some people would like this, but I don't find the battery being non-removable for a cell-phone an issue. By the time it needs to be replaced I will already be on or ready for a new iPhone. Some people say they would hot-swap batteries, but I doubt it, I would rather have a non-removable, larger battery. And if one were to carry an extra battery, they can just as easily carry a juice pack to recharge the battery...

Another gripe with the new design is the volume buttons. I don't like how they are separated. This would force me to look at the phone to know which one I am pressing, up or down volume, with the current one I can feel which one is up or down. Also, the circle buttons I fear may not stand the test of time as well and look a bit fishy if you ask me.

Ultimately, this is where I stand on the product. If the current design stands I think I will hold off until my AT&T contract is up on my 3GS to make the switch to the model that follows this in 2011, and if possible, switch to Verizion, or remain with the better 4G network (which at that time will only be Sprint or Verizion, AT&T 4G network deployment won't start until late 2011.)

If this product offers significantly more reliability with respect to the network and longer battery life, I will consider making the switch.

I will leave you guys off with a rumor to discuss. With the backing of the next-generation iPhone speculated to change to a "glass" or some other surface type. Do you think that they will include some type of functionality like the macbook trackpad or the magic mouse that enables multi-touch or scrolling. I think it would revolutionize browsing on the iPhone, especially with one hand. And not only that, but it offers a whole slew of options for gaming on the iPhone with more controls. Speak!

I also believe they moved to a more squareish/flat back/case because of the many problems of the hairline stress cracks on the plastic backs of the 3G/3GS. While the curved back may have felt good in the hand, it placed too much stress on the edges when in a tight pants pocket, for example.

I believe it's real, and a prototype.

I do think it's a pity though, that it was dropped at a bar and photographed in this fashion. For all we know, it was found at a bar precisely because the person pitching that design had it rejected, and they were tipping the Cider.

I've read people saying it doesn't look like something Apple would design. On the contrary, it fits in perfectly with the design of all of their mobile devices. Put it next to an iPad and MacBook, or MacBook Pro, even an iMac. I'm sure it will look amazing with the polishing touches on it. In fact, looks pretty darn good for a prototype.

The first iPhone photos being leaked, I can see how that could be a bad thing. But these "revisions", are like "whatever" to me. I don't think all the attention is because it's the next iPhone device, it's because of how paranoid and secret Apple is about everything, fueling peoples interest. Double-edged sword Apple.

I love this new design. Much more masculine looking.

As for the cuts, if they do end up being there in the final design, it's likely for functional reasons, We won't know till we see it on stage with Stevo.

When I first saw the break in the case and suggestions that the little hole was to release the side of it, I instantly thought that 3rd party manufacturers would be ecstatic.

If you think about it, being able to remove a piece of the phone causes the potential for a lot of extras. For example a company could create a special case that attaches in place of the current piece and so is much more secure.

However the main though I had was that you could attach a mini keyboard to the bottom of the device without needing a case. It could be fixed or flip or the strip could be replaced with something that has little clips which you could then attach game controls. I doubt it would happen but just a thought.

Why its fake

Apple would never let this away from there secret vault 450 feet into the ground. Inside the bottom of a volcano surrounded by sharks.

User replaceable battery NO WAY! Apple wont even put that on there laptops.

That design, they must of been hammered at the bar when they designed it.

Seams, never Apple is sleek and slim design this is square and could injure someone.

The fact its away from Apples secret vault 450 feet into the ground. Inside the bottom of a volcano surrounded by sharks.

Did I mention the fact that the iPad was only allowed to be used in a hidden room even after it was announced, this one hasn't even been announced and people are allowed to take it away from Apple.

Its a chinese fake. I saw one on my local craigslist like 2 months ago, I wish I would have saved the listing. :( I am going to find the link.

I would rather have my 3GS than this. If that isn't enough proof that its not real than I don't know what is.

why it may be real

Steve Jobs was at the bar and said this is too ugly and threw it on the ground and put his sim card back in his 3GS.

I don't believe this "bar" story for a second. This has to be Apple wanting to get the info out there earlier than normal to counter the gaining momentum of their competitors, who are putting out new phones on a very regular basis.

+1

I don't think this was a mistake.

Here it comes...

Verizon may have the best network (I think they do btw) but they are retarded.... they had the chance to have the iPhone exclusivity and blew it because they were not budging on little petty things. If you have a chance to boost your profits astronomically and make sure your biggest competitor doesn't stand a chance, you agree with what the person wants, not make your own stipulations.

Nah, I'm not a fanboy, I just think Steve Jobs is eccentric enough to do something like this. Haven't you heard the Apple horror stories during the development of the original iPhone?

Too bad for Apple, their fun is ruined for a June unveiling. I don't think it's going to hurt sales or excitement much though.

It looks beautiful. Much closer to the original iPhone which I liked a lot.

I'm not sure I'd want to be the Gizmodo guy. Will Apple ever let him attend one of their events again?
