The yard stick is what competitors are offering, not what it costs Apple. The cost to Apple is miniscule.

Samsung, Moto, Google all include fast charging since their hardware supports it. Apple should do it, given the price point they are hitting. It's an oversight on their part and customers at the end lose, since we are not able to take advantage of the hardware that can fast charge, which is a competitive loss.

Samsung pushed Apple for bigger screens given thats where the market went, then towards reduced bezels, and so on.

Apple prides itself in not being first, but on executing well. The lack of a fast charger GIVEN how slow wireless or the regular charger provided are, is a sign of bad execution and how it doesn't "just work".

New to this forum so need to tread with care. I have in the past month purchased the iPhone SE also last week the iPhone 8 plus (it was hell to obtain one regardless of colour?)
I also own and use as my daily mobile the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. With that in mind why did I purchase the iPhones?

I needed a source unit to be used along with the Oppo HA2-SE and the Teac HA50-SE. Neither of those portable DAC-Amp's behave nicely with Android smartphones using USB-C connectors.

Both DAC's, as are many other similar devices, designed to work with Apple products primarily. I bought the SE, Screen was too tiny for me (always wanted one though, love the design) so bought the 8+. Pleased to have done so. Both superb devices that I am proud to own.

For years I have avoided Apple because of their corporate behaviour (tax evasion etc) more than that the way they abuse thier very loyal customers. This is a typical example of such disrespectful behaviour. As you write one spends nearly 1300€ on the X or 950€ on the 8+ only to discover there is no fast charger in the box! Need to buy one AND the cable.

It truly ticks me off that a corporation the size and wealth of Apple screw their customers. In one form or another Apple have been doing this for some years and my 'guess' would be loyal Apple customers just either don't notice or don't care, either way Apple should be ashamed of such practices.
I use my Samsung wireless charger that came as a free gift with my Galaxy S8+ to charge my nice new iPhone 8+.

No but I expect them to include the basics like an engine, seats and a steering wheel! You are an Apple investors delight.

One of the major new advancements to the 8, 8-plus and 10 range is fast charging. The OP is correctly questioning why Apple didn't put the fast charger in the box. The difference in cost between the normal charger and the fast charger for Apple at source is negligible BUT Apple totally depend on loyal, honest, decent customers like you to defend such policies and screw them even though you don't recognise you are being screwed, its a fantastic business model!

Don't set me of on the 64GB or 256GB with zero in between. The business psychologists employed by Apple must earn a fortune! 720 screen in the 8? I would bet you the industry leading boxing all Apple devices come in cost more than the power brick!

Apple produce some truly incredible devices also software. They also knowingly prey on their customer loyalty base.

BTW This is only my second time purchasing a flagship Apple iPhone and I didn't know the 8+ didn't come with the appropriate power brick. ALL Samsung and other fast charging flagship smart phones include the appropriate power brick in the box.

Turning this on its head. WHY didn't Apple include the fast charging brick? Because they know customers will go buy one. Brilliant business psychology. I have to admire their open disrespect for their customers. Me included.

This.
What makes me mad is that I deeply believe that, business wise, this is a stupid strategy by Apple.

Only a fraction of X users will go out and buy a fast charger, ad only a fraction of a fraction of those will buy the Apple’s charger.
But the totality of X users will get a sub-optimal user experience, when they could all have been delighted by Fast charging out of he box for what we all know being a ridiculously low cost on Apple.
And for the users that do know about this stuff, they will feel like Apple has taken advantage of them, which is not exactly how you build and maintain reputation and brand equity.

I for one have my house full of Apple’s devices, I am a “fan”, but I am not an evangelist because while I do believe they are exceptional at designing and delivering top products, I also believe they are exceptionally greedy and I’m not in the mood of convincing anybody in giving more money to those people.

And this sentiment comes down to those micro stupid decisions like the Fast charger. It’s not the 1,300 eur phone that makes me mad: it’s the 30 eur cable you are forcing me to buy to connect it to my MacBook. That’s unforgivable.

Yea I got floor mats when I bought my Cayenne, and wow I also got cruise control!

Do you hear yourself?
Like a few others, who call a fast charger a luxury...why in the world do you feel the need to defend a company like Apple for just doing what is not right?

Am I saying we should have gotten Free cases? Free wireless earphones? Or Free screen protectors, etc?

No I'm saying we should have gotten a fast charger instead of a brick and cable we've seen for almost a decade already with our phones. If you're an X user your included in the (we) so I don't get what the defensive behavior is all about? Do you like being told...sorry, if you want a fast chager go buy it? Something that costs Apple pennies to manufacture.

Think about what your saying, lol and what your comparing a fast chager to.

Of course it's ******** to charge 80 bucks for a fast charger. You got cruise control for free? I'm not defending Apple per se, im just tired of everyone expecting Apple to do things. I've used Apple before they got mainstream and tbh it was expensive back then, and it still is expensive now. Just because smartphones are so popular right now and iPhones as well doesn't make Apple a mainstream brand. They're pretty much premium, like any premium brand.

I think having two different sizes of storage is much worse. I think they should go back to how Steve wanted the iPhone to be. They now have idk how many different iPhones for sale, different storage sizes as well. They should've made the X the best iPhone to buy with just one storage size 256. As well as their MacBooks are getting more and more expensive. Tbh they are losing their "premium price, premium product" slowly. But still, the iPhone X is gorgeous and an amazing device, im just waiting for another company to come up with a really good device that will make Apple work their butts off

Apple know their customers are mugs and will pay $80 or whatever they charge for a fast charger.

Like they charge £30 for a HDMI cable when anyone with any sense will buy one off of Amazon for £6.

I’m on the side that this is Apple cheaping out. But thinking about it, it seems possible to me that Apple has its finger on the pulse of iPhone user complaints. They might know for a fact that “I wish my iPhone charged faster” is low on the list, perhaps because most iPhone users exclusively charge their phones overnight. Also, a lot of people carry a charger in a purse/bag. They want something tiny and might not know or care why Apple made the charger bigger.

UPDATE: I’ve heard from a bunch of readers who either prefer the small charger themselves or who have family members who do. It’s not just about a smaller object to put in your bag — a frequent comment is that the small charger fits into many outlets where the larger ones don’t.

I'd definitely prefer a 10W iPad charger in the box, but the fit in wall outlets and power strips is a compelling case to keep bundling the 5W charger.

I also have used apple products before they became who they are now, my dad had a Macintosh and I knew about Steve Jobs long before I knew who Micky Mantle was, my dad always used to talk about business 101 and Steve Jobs name would get thrown in there, so I understand the whole business anology towards being a healthy profitable company. However look at what we are talking about here? A fast charger! Something that is pennies in the grand scheme of things, not $150 retail wireless ear buds.

Steve would have wanted to come up with the smallest fast charger the world has ever seen, and he would have included it with his top of the line phone, the iPhone X.

Times have changed...some people need 64GB, some need 128GB, and some need 256GB (like myself)

I don't think we need a ton of iPhone models, I think an X and an Xplus would be fine...but that's just me. They want a lower model to appeal to people who don't either want or can't afford such an expensive device, Steve would say well than to bad, it's not for you if you can't afford it..Apple was insanely expensive back in the day and still to some degree is. But we're getting off topic.

As for this debate with the fast charger, in a phone, a mobile device priced at over $1000, I do think in this day and age when the iPhone actually has the ability to be fast charged, Apple should have included one. Like I've said long ago, I do like apple, I've grown up using their products, I just don't get this penny pinching attitude that has become the norm from a company of their size and wealth.

Thank you. It really bugs me that more people don't realize this. I've been using my Anker 24w 2.4a chargers for years now and have enjoyed very rapid charging since my 6+.

Yes, the 5w charger is amazingly compact. I took it with me on my last business trip and found that yes, it does fit in places my larger Anker wouldn't - it also doesn't fall out of the airplane seat because of its weight either.

Apple...A Fast Charger would have been nice!

A $1000 does not guarantee anything except the phone and it near $1200. For that Apple is not going to toss any freebies except the regular one. Buy it or not, it is your choice. I do not hate you or anyone else in this forum, in fact I like you!;)

Yes it is people's choice and it is their choice for complaining, but some people in this thread are acting like the complaint is so unreasonable, that they are asking for freebies. How is paying $1000 a freebie?

We are on such different “frequencies” that I give up. You feel you are entitled to something extra just because the phone cost $1000. To me, asking Apple to toss in a fast charger for the same amount of money is ridiculous but I understand you do not think that way.

Just accept it is fact and choose accordingly.

Look up the definition of entitlement. How is wishing for a fast charger included asking for special treatment when it is the norm with other smartphones.

This is 16gb base storage Part 2. I understand stand some people are shareholders ...

just to attach a potential cost to that request..

100 million iPhone X sold.. $50 gift to each buyer..

100million * $50 = 5 Billion dollars.

...
i'm sorry but i highly(!) doubt they're going to do that.

------
edit-- i'm not actually sure if it's $50 for the plug/cord.. i just used that number on a guess.
Buying in bulk and of course not buying the 5w chargers, the cost difference would probably be more like pennies per unit. Doubt they'll lose substantial revenue on selling fast chargers as an extra either, most people will probably buy the wireless charger if anything. So yeah, basically it's margins (pence per unit at that) getting in the way of user experience again, which is a shame.

Totally agree with what you said. I have that feeling more and more, and don't like it one bit. They are losing the feeling of buying an Apple product and actually getting top of the line stuff. They haven't updated their Mac line in ages now (talking about Mini & Mac Pro).

I don't like saying stuff like "Steve would've done this or that" so I won't, what I will say is that Tim Cook is definitely focussing on the iPhone as their main product and thats a shame. The Macs is what made the company great and kept them alive. They provided tools for professionals in the movie/design/photo industry and they are letting that slip.

They went from a company making really good computers with great software to a company that makes phones with Animoji's if you catch my drift.

You must then know that I am one of them.

Have a great weekend.

And this is why your opinion doesn't matter in _this_ thread. As a shareholder, it benefits you when Apple to charges more or upsells.

"A fast charger would have been nice" ... Good luck trying to convince others that it is a bad idea to include it.

Aww what's a matter Mr Sharholder?
Are the little people just making to much sense for you to handle!

Sickening!!!

And here's where I get mad, as I would imagine a lot of other customers do as well. I, we, THE CUSTOMERS THAT KEEP THE WHEEL SPINNING...are not asking for something that would even put the slightest single tiniest of small dents anywhere in the world of apples business. It's thinking like this, speaking like this that makes people outside the apple box HATE apple and anyone who uses their products. Because they think we are all this way, all sheep just waiting in line and saying yes to anything thrown our way. Hey let's give people a 20mp camera on the iPhone 12 and charge 2 cents for every picture they take! You guys would love that right? Just take all you can from loyal customers who continuously keep buying iPhones and apple products year after year. I am actually disgusted by your last comment saying you are a shareholder and you're ok with something as small as customers saying we can't even take advantage of a technology that is on board with the phone but needs to utilized by buying a separate fast charger. All because Apple is shipping this beautiful new phone with the same charger they have been shipping for years when the phone was what...$200,300 cheaper?

Sorry but you sound ridiculous on every level saying the customers doesn't deserve in the grand scheme of things something as small a fast charger when buying a $1000 plus phone.

I commend Google, Samsung and those other companies that do in fact take into coniderstion that without the customers all is lost.

And no I'm not some kid or ignorant person just ranting. I'm a business owner in the restaurant business and I give back on a constant basis. As a matter in fact I gave free pizza to everyone on line for the iPhone X at the Williamsburg Apple store the night before the release, and I do stuff like that on a constant basis because you know what...it's cool to give back, it's cool to see people genuinely thank full for something...However with us spending hefty money on a phone and if Apple including a fast chager, I wouldnt even consider that giving back, I'd call that doing what should be done in the first place when in this day and age you spend that type of money on a phone.

Yes your so right...we will vote with our feet, how dumb we've been...silly us!

You have to start paying to take pictures with your new iPhone 15!

You- Really? Ok! Makes sense.

Us- WHATTTTTTTTTTTT!

So many sound so brain washed by the fact of just because Apple thinks it's ok, it is...no matter what it entails.

Get real ..... take a step back and read how ridiculous your posts sound ;)

And I am also a business owner with 32 employees and I will trust Apple knows what they are doing. If you had made an additional $30k for your retirement in the last few weeks, you would feel differently. You were raised in a different time with a much different educational system so I do not expect you to understand. Just the facts.

Most people put their phone on the charger at night when sleeping so fast charging has no use for them or me. You people who want to charge faster will need to pay for it. This is not Samsung or Google and glad it is not.

I'd rather take steps forward instead of back as you are living.

You are living in the past, the past where screwing the customer over and over again eventually catches up with you. Maybe you're a share holder also, I would hope you are since you're arguing about new X buyers getting a fast chager with the phone instead of the same old one we've been given for the last 7+ years. I have those DAC's and they have always worked perfectly fine with my Android devices. I even use Smsl m8 with my Android devices, with USB-A AND USB-C. This is with Nexus 6 and Pixel XL.

As matter a fact, it seems more devices are plug and play compatible with Android than iPhones. This works with Android phones and USB compliant devices, as well as the google home and over 1000 compatible devices as well.

The fast charger should've definitely been included. the anker 29w charger is doing just fine for me. i do feel like most customers that buy the phones (non macrumors members) will never take advantage of the fast charging ability.

And yes, the iphone is now their main product. Ipad is #2. Macs are #3. Macs are what drew most of us in and they are neglecting them a bit. we should be seeing new macs every 2 years.

For clarity im not a shareholder or an Apple employee and I’m not living in the past. I get your point that you want a fast charger but why keep banging on about it ? ..... reality is I’m not really that bothered but that doesn’t mean I’m living in the past. Just because you want one does not mean everyone does ! I very happily charge my phone overnight. My BMW comes with a super quick engine, sport gearbox and paddle shift on the steering wheel .... doesn’t mean that BMW should supply me with racing overalls, gloves and a helmet so I can drive like a racing driver just because I paid $100,000 for a car ! Where do you draw the line ?

Like I said before if you don’t like it you have a choice not to add to the bank balance of Apple ...... add to someone else’s who is probably screwing you equally well but you don’t know how !
