Ok have it installed on iPhone 4 on o2 in the UK. As predicted the signal strength is bolder but my non sweaty hands make the signal go right down so I'm guessing something is going to have to happen by way of product recall or apple retail store fix as the death grip is still 100% there. Sorry to be another bearer of bad news.

As I was expecting...

This isn't a software issue... the software issue just fixes minor things... not major things that clearly sticks closely to the design and hardware.

the reason why the update is so big is because when the phone feels you holding it wrong way it will tell you, "please do not hold me like a moron so I can work properly, thanks your iPhone 4."

Not noticing a signal bar change

EDIT:That was on edge. On 3G I now have 2 bars as opposed to the previous 5. Edge is now going back and forth from 1-3 bars. Guess I've always thought my signal is much better than it is. Perhaps that explains my dropped calls.

Ok so I just updated my iphone 4 to 4.0.1 and, like before, I still have 4 bars and, like before, when i place my finger over the gap on the lower left corner, my signal drops to 1 bar. So I can't see a change except that the bars are bigger.

I got $10 that says they just modified the code to just show people what they want. Program it to show 5 bars so that when a call drops we can go back to blaming AT&T. Nice try.

Just upgraded. The proxmity sensor seems to be more sensitive and when I grip the bottom left side of the phone i've noticed the bars drop faster than they did before.

The graphic of the actual bars are a bit bigger. So if you have only one bar of service it looks like more than the puny one bar from all the other ios versions.

Yay. Instead of 5 bars I now have 3..... How is this supposed to make me feel better again?

I went to update myself, and of course it barfed on me when trying to install it. Now I have to restore my phone.

Because now you have an accurate depiction of the phone's actual signal strength. This should more accurately show the deficiency of AT&T's network

Ok, Seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vodafone UK here... The signal has gotten worse! HOW THE FRAK is that possible!?!?!?

I am so pissed now!

They better recall or refund! this is a disaster!

Yup.

And to think some idiots thought this was going to fix the antenna issue, when Apple made it clear that the iPhone was displaying too many bars and would receive an update to, using common sense, show less bars.

How people took the above information and managed to think it would fix the antenna issue is baffling. Oh wait, it's MacRumors.

My Iphone 3G is still slow, come one Apple get your game up

You're kidding me, right?

I hope you're a troll.

You expect a new iOS to run fine and dandy on old hardware? Thats like running leopard on a G3 or G4. Apple has not, and ever will, provide adequate backwards support for anything older than one model prior, that's just how they roll. You expect a phone released Q4 2008 to run iOS4 flawlessly? Really? It's no different then them not supporting tiger, them not supporting iMac 8,1's etc. Need I go on?

Computers move fast, phones move even faster. You expect a phone with half the processing power (412 mhz vs 800 mhz) and a quarter of the RAM (128 vs 512 MB) to perform well running an OS designed for the new model (800 mhz, 512 MB). Think about it.

So, either way, we were/are being lied to.

My confidence is through the roof!!

Woohoo, the fun begins now.

The next 36/48 hours are going to be mayhem on here.

It's not. It's supposed to give you a more accurate representation of the signal your phone is receiving. Apple has admitted that their methods of displaying bars in the past have given an illusion of better reception than was actually present.

Edit: Again, thread moves faster than I type.

That's cold for people. Well, people were warned.

Were they? The first thread I saw in the Hacks forum about "backing up blobs" was this morning. Since I was already at work, it was too late. And I've been checking that forum periodically since I received my iPhone 4.

Granted, I skipped the 3GS (though my 3G remained jailbroken its entire life), so I had to even look up what a "blob" was. I never had to worry about that on the 3G.

Kind of upset I missed it. :(

just upgraded. bars look like they slope differently.

I never got great service here in the office on my blackberry. now have been getting, and still getting after this update, 5 bars.

speetest showing me 2mb down and 250K up.

first time i've seen more than 100k up (i live in nyc) in a while
