Wow, 28 hours remaining. This on a university server which is lightening fast.

I suspect the problem is on Apple's end. Might there be a lot of demand for this download? :)

anyone know if this update will fix the crazy white balance issue for the camera?!?! I hate the yellow pics.

Lol, 5 bucks says apple's press conference is just to tell everyone to update their iphone 4's to 4.0.1 because it fixes the antenna issue.

ok so now my phone shows 3 bars of signal instead of 5. Can see some this being even worse for Apple when people complain and say that the update has made their reception worse.
Wonder if there is some hidden updates that we don't know about in there. Maybe it is just a ploy as they have found a patch for the upcoming jailbreaks, hmmmmm :apple: i used to love you and now you  me

my iphone 3gs has gone from always having 5 bars at this location to about 3-4..

edit: faster download speeds on 3g with speedtest, although im now down to 1-2 bars, even though the ATT tower is at the end of our apartment complex.

My Iphone 3G is still slow, come one Apple get your game up

I don't think a software update can fix the 3G being slow on iOS 4.0. The 3G has 128K RAM, if I'm not mistaken. That's 1/4 the RAM of the iPhone 4. Mine was sluggish as hell too. It slowed down considerably with the 3.0 update but after 4.0 I couldn't deal.

Hum

The little bars graphic is different - sort of an exponential slope, except not quite that steep. Suggesting bar number five is MEGA reception and 1-4 "just" reception.

Ha! I am not downloading 579MB just to display the signal bars differently!

Hasn't Apple heard of patching?

You may have to wait even longer. I think Apple is more concerned about the iPhone 4 right now and making sure it doesn't get a bad rap. Well, anymore than it has right now.

Understood. I was hoping that with the new unified-ness of iOS4 that all devices would be getting more concurrent updates. Guess I'll just have to keep manually logging into to wifi hotspots, no matter how many times I plead with my iPod to remember the name and password...

me thinks that is EXACTLY what it is. A software adjustment can't fix a hardware problem.

Well from what I was told on launch day, from one of the tech guys was that he thought I should wait till they sort out the antenna. I was dumb... I went ahead anyway... Clearly they knew.

So this leads me to think it's not going to be solved by any software. I mean I'd love it if they could, but that's asking too much.

What is the main issue here is that had it just been a simple software issue, Apple would have been more upfront about it. But instead, in panic mode they kept quiet, while serious tests were made to then confirm it to be an actual design flaw. I'm just wondering how is THAT going to be fixed with a software?

This is the year 2010, not 2110, where maybe an update to your phone can make it mutate or grow an antenna in the right area, through a simple software update.

;)

Ok have it installed on iPhone 4 on o2 in the UK. As predicted the signal strength is bolder but my non sweaty hands make the signal go right down so I'm guessing something is going to have to happen by way of product recall or apple retail store fix as the death grip is still 100% there. Sorry to be another bearer of bad news.

Direct download started at abt ten minutes for the download and now its stalled and about 40 mins left. :/

I like big bars and I cannot lie, you other brothers can't deny, when a phone turns on with those strong signal bars and those icons in your face, SpringBoard get reprung!
