Strange I know lots of people who left iphone after seeing the Galaxy S2. I guess Apple have to do some damage control seeing as how Android is the dominant force in the smartphone industry.

More people stick with the iPhone then moving to the android platform. Far more Android users move to the iOS platform. iPhone is still outselling the Galaxy S2 even though there are more Android phones being used. Does not sound like damage control to me.

I am pretty sure Samsung does not sell millions of units per week at any time

Samsung sold more units than Apple in Q3...

One quarter? Is that it? Still has much catching up to do. Edit: OK he does say at any time, give you that one.

This is not suprising. Who in their right mind switch to android after using ios????????????

Nobody in their right mind.

Android user base consists of people who don't know any better/ignorantly think the iOS and android worlds are one in the same and people who irrationally hate apple.

The former don't bother me, they don't know any better, don't really care and it is good enough for them.

Maybe if Steve spent less time butthurt with furious rage over android, adobe, microsoft, Samsung (notice a pattern), motorola, psystar etc he would still be alive today.

That's about the most disgusting thing I have read here for a while. Since English is not my first language, and I can't find it in the dictionary, could you explain the meaning of "butthurt"? Is that something you know a lot about from personal experience?

I Love you for your post

Of course, samsung makes way better stuf than apple. Only props to apple though as they get more sales from uneducated tech free people. Thats one thing I like about Apple, they have built up reputation for their friendly UI that just works because it's simple and easy to use.

Android on the other hand of course it's somewhat Identical (exactly the same for texting/calling) but for like gaming, benchmarks/performance, mod/hack/customization. Props goes out to android for all that jazz but the thing is that people are so "Use to" apple's way of selling stuff from their ads that they feel norm to them so the "uneducated people" usually go out to buy the apple products.

Then theres those hardcore apple fans who are tech educated and will back up apple, not gonna blame them...

Anyways, if Apple droped their limitations while keeping the friendly UI they always have had, I'm sure they'll boost in sales. Until that day, Android will always rule on the mod/hack/customization area. If you don't believe me on customization search up custom rom, beautiful widget/fancy widget, adw launcher/go launcher, etc. All that stuf except custom rom you don't even need to hack your phone to do so unlike iphone/pod/pad and even then the themes you download off (certain sites or source that i wont mention) are pretty crappy and too much effort to do.

let the spazz/flame begin lol...

Android rules :)

If Apple dropped limitations, iOS will become the mess that Android is. ICS is an improvement UI wise, but people don't realize the fundamental problems of Android. It's the business model.

Fragmentation is real and it sucks for devs. People think because Android has markets that apps will work on all devices provided they have the same OS. This isn't even true due to the wide variety of Android devices, many of which don't offer improvements over previous ones. Even if you get an app to work on a certain device, not all features may work as expected. I know people who use Android to try something different, but no one I know loves it.

You don't even get timely updates unless you get a Nexus device, but then where is the choice? If you are going to use a custom ROM, then what's the difference between Android and Jailbreaking?

I'm glad Android is getting better because there is more competition, but I don't buy that people are getting iPhones because they are uneducated. Even just in my university program about design/multimedia/comp sci, the majority of people use iPhones. Being tech savvy doesn't mean you want to spend loads of time making your phone right for you. Phones are still just phones, and all these little tweaks are neat and all, but don't add much to the experience and don't make the phone much more efficient.

It is actually the opposite. The uneducated people end up with android devices. The salesman in the store with the spiff on the android phone of the week convinces the unsuspecting consumer they are the same and can do all the same things. Which of course is not true.

Almost none of the most important apps I use regularly for my business exist on the android platform.

There goes any respect I have for you. "Uneducated" people my ass. Looks like you have never touched an Android device.

Obviously they can do the same things, like calling, web browsing, run apps etc.

Before you label me as a hater, I'm typing this on an iPad.

'Uneducated people' usually go out and buy Apple products? Any data to back this up? Must be one hell of a lot of uneducated college students, graduates, professors, and business people out there! Guess none of them do any research on what products to buy for themselves, their families, their universities, colleges, and businesses. Guess their just too busy!

I work in two medical offices and in an obstetrical call group, and every one of the physicians in those three groups (a total of 32 physicians) uses an iPhone (even the one who vowed never to own a smartphone).

Thanks for reminding us all of how uneducated we are.

An expert in one field does not make them an expert in all.

I would trust very few, if any, Ph.D's for computer purchasing advice. Then again that is what I am paid for.

Are you selling slingshots and birds maybe?

Well, these are my two cents. I am an Apple user since three years, yet when I had to buy a smartphone last summer I decided to avoid iPhones because of their lack of customizability. I am a long-time developer and want to be able to develop small applications for my devices that meet my specific needs. (I have yet to do this, but hey who knows?)

At the end I chose a Nokia N8: even if Symbian is on a dead end, I know I can develop anything I want (using the wonderful Qt libraries) without having to jailbreak my phone. (And I think the hardware is way better than a iPhone, even if I paid my N8 for slightly more than half the price).

As an Android user right now... I can say that Android will never surpass iOS. Not if Apple keeps bringing it to more carriers. I will be getting the next iPhone. Android may be nice in the fact one can hack it and Google does not care, but it is still not as fast and smooth as iOS (on my phone at least).

Android surpassed iOS a long time ago, Apple have been playing catchup by adding features to iOS which were present in the original Android version. And as for sales its total domination by Android.

im probably gonna switch to android soon because im getting bored with the iOS UI after having owned 3 iPhone generations.

I switched from iOS to Android. Are you as uneducated as myself? I just have two bachelor's degrees from Mexico, a bachelor's from the USA, a Master's and a DEM from France and a Doctorate from Canada.

Nuance is a sign of intelligence.

P.S (English is my fourth language)

that already sounds complicated.

Its all really easy thanks to the good interface Google have made. If you want to customise your home screen hold you finger where you want a widget/app to go and a menu appears letting you choose what to add. If you want to move something hold your finger on it for a few seconds and then you can drag it around. I think Apple did something similar in ios?

One quarter? Is that it? Still has much catching up to do. Edit: OK he does say at any time, give you that one.

The other quarters Samsung were pretty close. And remember, this is just if we're talking Smartphones. If we include all cellphones, Samsung basically destroys Apple's number by quite the large margin since they also sell a lot of dumbphones.

The argument was that Apple had superior manufacturing capacity. Highly doubtful. Remember, on top of all the smartphones and dumbphones, Samsung also manufactures parts for these phones AND the iPhone.

Why some posters live in some imaginary world where Apple is the best at everything puzzles me sometimes. Samsung is basically in the manufacturing business, Apple sub-contracts it. There is no shame about that and it's not anti-Apple or hate to admit so.

I do believe you are correct.

As one who uses & enjoys both platforms, when it comes to smartphones, I'd prefer to use an iPhone as my primary phone.

Why? Because it integrates so well with my personal Apple Eco System of twenty years.

Why am I using my iPhone 4S as a secondary phone? Simple. After trying Android and experiencing the wonderful advantages of a 4.3" display, with it's ultra fast, fun, and extremely accurate SWYPE input method, it's hard to live with the tiny keyboard & screen that thus far, Apple has clung to.

If Apple were to bring the iPhone up to date with these features I'd give up Android.

Make no mistake, these two:
1) Large 4.3" display
2) SWYPE
Are the ideal combination and are equally important in my experience.

SWYPE is so different, that many pass it by due to lack of patience and jumping to a negative conclusion before giving it a chance. I nearly did that myself. However when I went to their web site, watched just three of their brilliant 60 second tutorials, I immediately "got it".

After just two days of practice I was SWYPING far faster than my fastest speed on any prior smartphone. It makes a huge difference. You will never know without trying it.

Sadly Jobs ego couldn't handle the fact it's so superior, Apple took months before deciding to reject it from the app store approval process. One can only surmise that many involved in the process at Apple saw the potential, argued in favor, but got shot down by Steve.

At the end of the day, if Apple wouldn't be quite so combative with the competition, a little bit more flexible with products (like having a larger model as well as the current size) they'd make even more money and that's just a fact.

Many of my cross platform friends feel the exact same way. We are using Androids but mostly because Apples stuck in their ways.

When you are as mobile for business & pleasure as we are, the extra screen size & time saving SWYPE are too good to ignore. It's as simple as that.

Apple is getting desperate with this s***!
I was in best buy yesterday and that Galaxy tablet has the same screen quality as Apple's iPad. But the fit and finish is nowhere near Apple's. Also I don't believe Sammy would give the same customer service as Apple.
Sammy IMHO, just junks up the market with tech.
Apple will have and uphill battle playing with the likes of Sammy in the consumer electronic sphere. I personally don't think Apple should have made a phone but I'm damn sure Wall Street told them to.Apple is a public company and they have to do what is right for their investors. MAKE MONEY!

The screen in the Galaxy Tab is better quality than the ipad, its higher res, better dpi and a much better aspect ratio for watching my films on.

So Android must be playing catchup by adding features to ICS which were present in iOS and WP7?

This is a fallacious argument. It only takes into consideration customers that have already bought into one of the two ecosystems . What about first time buyers?

There are none its stealing. Stop spreading hateful lies, thats not what the internet is for.

? So ICS's method of creating folders is a new thing that no one has done before? The People App is not exactly similar to WP7's People App? Stop being in denial.
