Can you legally change your gender in the U.S.?
Not true. A teen may be able to transfer legal guardianship from his parents to another adult. Please try again.

I don't understand this. Besides the existing crimes going on in public restrooms, the main people who could be adversely affected by this are women and girls.

Women dressing as a man might invite harrasment in the mens bathroom.
This would allow criminal men to dress as women and harass/violate women in the women's bathroom.

Seems like the burden of this falls heavily on females.

BASICALLY THIS IS PROMOTING CHAOS.

If this leads to the elimination of communal public restrooms it might be better for everybody.

It’s not about the bathroom. If it were, these “trans” people would just walk into the bathroom and privately sit in a stall and do their business.

That IS what "trans" people do!!! The problem started when the NC legislature made it a crime for them to do EXACTLY what you stated they should do.

Hmm, looking back to the posted article, the only thing this is related to Trump is that he let the state decides whether they want to follow the guideline or not (he didn't axe the guideline), or do something else entirely.
So whatever happens, it's up to the state. I don't see how you can make claims on what "according to Trump" is. Take it to your local governor.

You are correct. Trump is getting blamed for some stuff he is just peripherally involved with, the EXACT SAME WAY the Right kept blaming Obama.

What about when someone identifies as a cat and requires kitty litter in all restrooms? When does this stop?

Name one person who does that.
In fact, name one actual cat who demands kitty litter.
I'm sure you could come up with an analogy that is not completely moronic.

It's a mental disorder and should be treated as such.

Thank you Dr. Freud; but that's just your opinion, not a medical diagnosis.

No this is about women being able to go to the bathroom without staring at or having to deal with some guys penis.

So you are implying that women who use public restrooms currently have to stare at or deal with other women's vaginas? That's what you think happens in the ladies room?
[doublepost=1488483730][/doublepost]
WOW, what a way to get defensive. It was CLEARLY sarcasm. I think you need to take a rest and get some air.

No, it was not CLEARLY sarcasm, my thoughtful friend. It was an argument that allowing this would lead to something even more preposterous and outrageous. It was nearly a paraphrase of Justice Scalia's argument against same-sex marriage, claiming that if such were allowed, someone could insist on getting married to a tree. It's called "reducto ad absurdum"-- it's a valid form of argument, but only if the absurd extension actually follows. Which it did not, in this case, as I was pointing out.

Perhaps you should read up on logical argument and debate. This might be a better use of your time, rather than giving out misguided, although seemingly well-intentioned, advice.

You understand that trans people work at Apple. They are impacted by these policies. You complain about Apple speaking up for their employees but don't seem to care that a major oil company CEO is now the Secretary of State and essentially working to lift Russia sanctions, so his company can make trillions drilling there. That doesn't bother you. You are more concerned with where people take a piss. Makes sense.

Tim Cook has probably installed transgender toilets in the new spaceship.

Yes and you can expect them to take this even further and use Title IX to require schools to allow them to play on the girls sports teams. Girls will then be burdened with competing against boys for spots on the girls sport teams. In the end, women have the most to lose in all of this. The only winners will be lawyers who will sue everything and anything claiming discrimination against transgenders.

Perhaps you should stop being such a defensive person. And as for my time? I am fine. Clearly, you aren't.

I am really, really, sick of reading all this transgender/bathroom/etc. crap. The human species is male and female. If someone makes a CHOICE to live a deviant lifestyle, I don't see why they should get special attention and privileges.

The CONCEPT of segregated bathrooms is about 150~200 years old.

Did Jesus and the Apostles go to the local men's bathroom?
Is there a passage in Bible that says "Thou shall only use restroom facilities of your gender at birth"?
In fact, is there anything in bible about using the toilet?
Well, there is 1: Numbers 20:7-11. "Dig a hole and cover your excrement when done"

Usually they just pissed on the side of road when the needed. Rarely they might come across one of the new fangeled Roman designs. Must have been a treat.

Yes, that is 1 giant no-partition communal multiple crap hole toilet.

If Jesus came back to earth today, he would be amazed at how partitioned our toilets are.

Nope not even close to the same, unless you forgo all realms of logical thought. If they are single stall bathrooms then it makes no difference. I have used opposite sex single stall bathrooms in gas stations on several occasions. No one complained, not even the opposite sex that was waiting outside. This is about multi person bathrooms/showers and the problems that immature men have forced on women over the years. In the end, the problem has nothing to do the LGBT community and everything to do with not being able to determine what a male is going to do with his penis in the presence of women with their female parts exposed and making sure these women and girls feel comfortable.

No matter what the guy thinks, if he has male parts he should use the male bathroom/shower, etc. This is not discrimination because if he has male parts he should use the facilities provided for humans with male parts. Period. To do otherwise is just chaos, who's value has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with breaking down society.
The argument about breaking down society was also used against those who wanted to racially integrate public restrooms.

You can move freely between the states of this country and live in whichever you choose. That's what is so great about this nation.

If I don't want income tax on my paychecks, then I can move to Washington (state). If I don't mind income tax for the sake of other lower taxes and a low cost of living, I could move to South Carolina. See? Same goes for this topic.

"Basic civil rights"? Uh, no. Give me a break. I absolutely, 100% disagree with you that transgender folks (read: folks that identify with a gender this is NOT their actual gender) deserve the rights to use the bathroom of their choice. You feel the opposite. So, depending on who you're asking, someone could call either of us intolerant. Right? Neither of us will give into the other side's argument. So what's the next best option, then? Give parts of the country (states) the choice on what to do with transgender bathrooms. Some states will support it and some won't. There really is no better compromise. If you want/don't want those rights within the current state that you're residing, then you can move. Easy peasy.
That same argument was made for Jim Crow laws and separate but equal segregation under the guise of states rights.

Following your logic it should be ok to discriminate based on color, religion, race, heritage, etc. As long as it is decided by the states.

I believe there is only one side that is intolerant in this debate based on the definition.

Definition of intolerant - not tolerant of views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from one's own.

I don't want to use the bathroom of the gender I wasn't born with however, I am tolerant of someone who identifies differently.

High school kids are not "forced" to live with their parents. They can freely live with family members that are located in different states. They can even live with friends. Parents are no restriction.
Keep in mind that this could go the other way for you.

Your state/city might decide to allow transgenders people not to be discriminated against. And you will be the one that has to live with it or relocate your family to a different state.

It's so funny just how uneducated some people really are. For example, comments like 'there is man and woman' without even knowing that modern age gene studies have proved that statement as not wholly true (e.g. Caster Semenya). But the same old a/b argument gets spouted out by the unread or overly zealous religious set.

I also laugh, at how much people care about who p!sses/sh!ts in one room or another. I went to a huge number of nightclubs/festivals in the 1990s here in the UK (with everyone off their face, after a few drinky-poos, lol!), and people would use whatever they found available – 99.9% of the time without any inappropriate behaviour whatsoever, as people were just desperate to relieve themselves ASAP, like any other animal does.

Plainly, this is all to politically appeal to so-called 'religious right' in the US, but really, that very group let themselves down by their focus on the plainly mundane and trivial. And the administration knows they can use this group for their own ends by appealing to their small-mindedness instead of bigger issues. If I was in this group, I'd say F-U to politicians using me to suit their own ends, rather than helping them go along, but seemingly actual members of said group seem to enjoy being used as props as much as possible.

Fortunately, it's not that obvious as there 18/19 year olds as well. So again, as I ask, what's stopping them? Nothing.
[doublepost=1488480989][/doublepost]100 percent truth.

You didn't answer the question:

Should it be ok for interracial marriage to be outlawed by states because interracial couples are free to move to other states?

A transgender female who looks female using male bathrooms would cause much more chaos, and is actually unsafe
