My question is, how large a batch will be this printing? Apple's last design book held its value very well, and costs at least $100 USD these days. If a similar number of this new book is produced, then it will likely hold its $200/$300 value after ten years.

My bad guess: if this book is still on Apple's shelves after New Year, then it will likely go down in value (secondhand). If it is around only during this winter holiday season, then it is destined to be a collector's book and never loose value.

If you are talking about "Appledesign" - that book was by a researcher given access to the design archives, not by Apple itself. The book I had bought on Amazon was $75, retailing for $99. It has mainly photos of prototypes and design evolutions - it is one of my favorite books, ever.

This book appears to be just a bunch of photos of Apple released products (well, some have the computer covers missing...)

$200 & $300?

Okay...

I guess, nowadays, if you can afford to buy an Apple product new, you can afford one of these books...

No, thanks....

Actually, I found one of these books, "Apple Design" in paperback at Half Price Books in the clearance for $3... :)

Wauw, sounds cool. I really like the first photos. But I do wonder if they're gonna add these marvels:

:p
Genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve seen here. It might be a flaw in my character but I’d look upon anybody that pays $200 for this with disdain.

Apple::

We could of course fix iOS 10 and make it work with all the car systems we broke... but we felt a much better use of our time was to make a book of photos you can see for free on our website, and charge an exorbitant amount of money for it..

:apple: Think different..

So this remind people that Apple was innovative. Riding Steve Jobs innovations little longer, eh?

"$300 for a book? That is the most expensive book in the world, and it doesn't appeal to business customers because it doesn't have a keyboard." - Steve Ballmer, 2016

Tim Cook has turned this company into a disgrace.

Well, from a business perspective, he has just found a way to get people to pay $300 for an Apple advert (because som plonkers will buy this) and, as such should be lauded as a genius.

Hang on, though, didn't Madonna do this a few years ago?

There's also this which even at $100 is cheaper, and likely better in that it isn't run through the Apple filter ...

As far as I know, Apple only ever published one book, and that was the 10th Anniversary book given to employees:

It too is a collectable, though it has not held up as well as the Kunkel, which I paid $30 for. I think I paid almost $75 for "So Far", and it's not really escalated in value like the Kunkel has ... nor is it as interesting a book (see my Apple filter comment above).

What's really funny about this is that I doubt Steve Jobs would have allowed this book to be published by Apple. The Kunzel book before this was a collaboration with Apple, but ultimately published by a third party. Steve infamously stumbled onto the informal Apple museum when he first returned to Apple and orders it packed up and donated to Stanford -- he didn't want anybody looking back.

Thant's all this book is about.

Might Steve have softened his stance on this in his old age? Maybe. Might he have made an exception for his friend Jony? Maybe. But generally speaking, I don't see Jobs devoting corporate resources to looking backward, no matter how beautiful it might have been ...

Apple today announced the release of a new hardbound photo book, called "Designed by Apple in California," that chronicles 20 years of Apple product designs through 450 photographs. The book ranges from the iMac in 1998 to the Apple Pencil in 2015, and "also documents the materials and techniques used by Apple's design team over two decades of innovation." It is dedicated in the memory of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

The photographs in the book were shot by Andrew Zuckerman and are said to showcase each product's design process as well as its final form. Apple chief design officer, Jony Ive, gives the foreword for the book, explaining that its purpose is not to illustrate the success of Apple's design team, but to "describe how we work, our values, our preoccupations, and our goals."

Apple developed the book over an eight-year period, paying close attention to its own design and look. Because of this, the linen-bound, hardcover book is printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded matte silver edges, using eight color separations and low-ghost ink. It will be published by Apple itself, and only be available to purchase from the Cupertino company.

"Designed by Apple in California" will go on sale tomorrow, November 16, in small (10.20" x 12.75") and large (13" x 16.25") sizes, running $199 and $299, respectively. Fans will be able to order the photo book from Apple.com in Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as at select Apple retail stores across the world.
