I hope so.

I'm really glad they got rid of the bezels, but as it stands now, I will buy the new Apple Watch and wait for the software upgrade you mention.

This photo shows that we can avoid the notch. But it causes video to be smaller.

I just tried this, it didn't work for me.

It will be important to be able to do this click of the button 5 times to disable Touch-ID and Face-ID.

Maybe someone else can describe how to do this better?

But they haven't and they never will. And that's ok. You have to understand that some isheep who've been on this train for 10 years are starting to remove the rose tinted glasses and see these companies for who they really are. It's more liberating than you realize. And criticism and bashing are 2 different things.

Stop pledging unwavering fealty to these companies like they owe you something. WE have to stop doing that. This conference was underwhelming and downright disappointing. If you like the phone, fine get it. But if people have complaints (a popular one at that) about the design aesthetics or whatever, that's ok.

Hey I am an Apple Fanboy - big time.

But I am not blind to tech offered by other companies. Consider that my reasons for loving Apple products might go beyond whatever the focus of the current topic is. The reasons I like Apple products so much goes beyond the "feature" we might be critiquing. There are things that I do not overlook that are simply being reinforced by the latest and greatest from Apple. It's all the positive things about Apple products in general that predisposes me to be very accepting of whatever new tech Apple is offering. Did I want inductive charging 2 years ago? YES! Did I dump my iPhone and switch to Samsung because of inductive charging? NO. I was willing to wait for it from Apple. It hurt a bit and I probably spent $400.00 on lightning charge cords and wishing daily for inductive charging, but I put up with it because of the Apple Ecosystem perhaps, or maybe because Apple is a "green" company compared to other companies, It's an American company. I have Apple everything, so it all works together. Lots of reasons that I don't mention but these reasons are in the background and when it comes to weigh the choices, Apple wins. Apple wins by a country mile every time.

I am with you, why can't I edit a document when I am watching YouTube, why can't I play Spotify & YouTube side by side ? Why can't I watch stocks & check mail at the same time, they have to work on multitasking.

Sir. U talked about iPad or iPhone?
On phone, to watch stock and check mails at the same time, is it practical on Android phone? How small is the font? Can u post the screen shot? Thx

OLED is far superior. S8 and Note 8 are far superior phones. Sorry apple, you still haven't caught up to Samsung.

It may be superior in some ways - I don't know. Why do you suppose Apple chose to use the "inferior" tech here?

Power consumption?
Production cost/profitability?
Reliability?
Why?

There must be a reason. I don't think they chose AMOLED because it is "inferior".

Wait, really? I wasn't able to see the event but that's really disappointing if true. So part of the image or video appears in the "rabbit ears"? and gets cut off by the notch?
Exactly. I was hoping at least for a black side bar but no. The notch is part of the full screen video/photo, unavoidably covering a part of it.

I'm assuming this is "beta", and something that will be corrected on launch. But this to me is a big No No.

I'm not impressed by having a cutout in your media. However, i'm pretty sure this is probably just a render / demo picture and i'm hoping on iOS11 final release that they'll take care of this properly

Yup, it was demonstrated in the keynote. Video and photos when full screen actually play behind the notch, partially covered by it.

The Phone looks good but the notch is definitely an issue with people's personal photos and videos, there should be a software update that automatically crops out that notch and straighten the content.

I have an iPhone 6 128GB [2014], i had an iPhone 4S 64GB [2011], The broader issue with Apple is with regards to hardware they are not pushing forward. A 1K product with 64GB storage is an issue in 2017. Should have been 128GB or they could have added an SD card slot. An SD Card 128GB is 45$, there is no reason for a phone like that to no have 128GB. Wireless charging and end to end displays were already on the market, they are nothing new. Specs say 3GB of ram which should have been 4 or even 5 but could be overlooked since iOS has good memory management and it has a new processor. But it seems like they are no pushing the envelope anymore.

What Apple has going for it is iOS, its integration with iCloud & Macs and it ease of use, a lot of people mentioned that their family use it super easy and if they had previous experience with iOS coming from an iPad or older device then they wont switch, probably as long as smartphones exist.

The issue with Storage and Ram is not just with phones, its also with Macs, i have a Macbook Air 11 mid 2012 i7 / 256GB / 8GB RAM. Apple right now has a Macbook Pro thats its starting storage is 128GB, i was actually thinking of upgrading my Air to it but i knew Quad Core processors were around the corner (Intel just announced them recently) and the Macbook was just upgraded to 16GB Ram and 512GB storage just this year (i loved the no fans but i passed since no TB3 and processors similar to mine). At the time my device to me had value because it was small and reasonably good specs for the form factor and the Air actually made the industry shift to sleek laptops.

I am not sure i will upgrade to iOS 11 before checking out the reviews to it first for the 6 to check if it will slow down a technically old phone. The price as well is bordering on Macbook prices as well. I mean if we take out the competition and talk about just strictly Apple products, which are high priced compared to other phones and laptops, a Macbook Pro starts at 1300, and i know they are different devices but at what point do smartphones exceed their value for the price?

I know regardless these things will sell but customers and apple users need to let the company know somehow that for that they are holding back for no reason.

I haven't read all 54 pages of this thread, but I am glad to see at least one comment on this. Ive said: "For more than a decade, our intention has been to create an iPhone that is all display. The iPhone X is the realization of that vision..." This is clearly not the case as there is a black border around the display. Am I missing something or is Ive's statement simply not true?

Well, he said "more than a decade" and the iPhone X celebrates 10th year anniversary.. one of the two cannot be true.

I'm most surprised by the naming scheme. I personally believe they will change the naming scheme next year away from the numerical order. Perhaps they'll even switch to :apple:phone.

The 8 line isn't as disappointing when you consider it's much more of an "s" upgrade. Incremental in design but really packed full of new features. I'll definitely be considering the 8+.

The X isn't particularly revolutionary but it does catch the iPhone up to the likes of Samsung and far surpasses the current pixel devices. The price is in line with the note series. It's just a matter of which walled garden you'd like to check your email from.

I’m only really disappointed in the removal of the home button. They seemed to just have moved it’s features into random parts of the phone. I like being able to activate Siri, return to the home screen, use Apple Pay, unlock the phone and use reach ability from the same place. Perhaps if there were an actual virtual home button in the mix or they had moved those features to the side button I’d be more into it. I just can’t imagine retraining myself to all those gestures and not getting frustrated. It feels to me that it’s compensation for a feature that didn’t need to go anywhere to keep the phone on the bleeding edge.

Side note; It’s nice to see apple finally offer real options to a wider array of consumers. Within the SE - X (whoops) there’s lots of options for consumers and you no longer need to shell out $700+ to buy an iPhone with a warranty that will last a few years.

ya I guess I am missing the point of wireless charging, if the mat has a plug, whats the point, especially with thunderbolt and usb c being able to go in either way, there is no fumbling with cables, but whatever
Apple now has three devices that charge wirelessly. So you only have to bother with the cable once, when installing the charging pad. Then no more fiddling with charging cables for your phone, watch or earphones--ever again.

Not a must-have feature but it's nice esp. for those embedded in the eco-system, which is obviously who Apple is targeting with their three-device pad.

Numbers for Ram and Numbers for Dollars - they do not really matter. You have no choice - they made it that way and that's how it is. Nothing to worry about or complain about.

If many people find that paying several months wages for their phone is getting a bit ridiculous, then they might stop buying. But Apple already has that covered with lower priced models.

It's a lot like automobiles - there is something for everybody - all price ranges - but complaining about it doesn't help usually.

I'm going to run my 6 Plus one more year. If Apple doesn't come out with something more competitive in price with the Galaxy S8 by then I will probably switch to Android. I like iOS but there just isn't anything in the iPhone X that commands a $275 premium over a comparable S8 to me, and I'm not going to spend $75 more for a four-year-old design iPhone 8 Plus either.

Apple has priced me out of the market which is certainly their prerogative. I've got the feeling I'm not the only one, but it is going to take at least six months to find out for sure. We'll almost certainly see comparable quarter and year-over-year declines in unit sales when the September 30 results are announced. With the iPhone X only available for two months in the next quarter Tim can blame supply constraints for a comparable quarter decline then too. However, if they don't catch up by the March 31 quarter it will show that demand has fallen.
The Note 8 is $1000 too. Apple is quite in line with the market.

Guys please tell me that the full screen video cut out is a joke! Content behind the top notch is simply not visible! Every video will be overlayed.... this is insane!!!!!!!!!

Maybe video apps will not use that row and show it as dark line. If not this is a big distraction. Personally I feel Samsung and LG did it right. I don't understand the obsession with edge to edge screen. If it's not possible yet then do what Samsung did. Also Touch ID in the back was a better compromise than no Touch ID. Face id demo was so sad. I felt bad for Craig.

Face ID will be awesome. I like Touch-ID too - it's fast and works unless my hands are wet or in gloves.

They said 1:50000 with Touch-ID and 1:1000000 for Face-ID (chance of failing) - so I believe them. It's improved security and probably works good.

iPhone 8 still has Touch-ID - so probably you have another 3 years at least to see if Touch-ID disappears or continues to be offered on Apple products. I have Touch-ID on my MacBook Pro, and it's also nice - but I do sometimes wonder how secure it really is - but whatever.

I'll give Face-ID a chance.

Well the Galaxy S8 is 750$ and dropped recently to 575$ on Amazon and Best Buy for a while. The Note price is totally absurd, even compared to Samsung devices.

BuddyTronic, I am not complaining, i am discussing the whole state of Apple hardware, with regards to new and to my current hardware. IF i cant do that or anyone else not complain or be worried, then there is no reason to debate anything and everything should be accepted as is.

You have a point with the lineup comparison, but when it comes to talking about the "best phone" and the top iPhone, they should have top specs and actually you should see Apple go over and beyond with maybe better than market specs, that was my point, not limit your device to force people to upgrade in 1 or 2 years.

and the first live FaceID unlock failed....
hopefully it's gonna work in real life...
Not really, who ever setup the demo phones ****ed up. Just like TouchID, you need to enter your password once, before it will work. That demo phone did not have the initial password entered. The clearly said "To use FaceID, you must first enter your password.".

Which one of these scenarios sound the most realistic to you? And wouldn't you think that someone willing to invest $160k to make a quick $1000 would have enough cash to just buy a new iPhone X outright?

Or you can simply get some Neo/Ethereum/bitcoin that would increase much more. And this is best time to get in to crypto currency since price has gone 20% down due to Chinese ICO ban.

Burqa-clad Muslim woman #1: "I hate this new iPhone X."
Burqa-clad Muslim woman #2: "Why?"
Burqa-clad Muslim woman #1: "It's stupid. I can't get it to unlock."
Burqa-clad Muslim woman #2: "Oh, you too? I thought it was just me."

Meh. Or you could lose much more as well. Short term plays in cryptocurrencies or stocks is no better than going to Vegas and plunking down a bunch of cash on black in Roulette.

The more tech reviews I watch, the more I want one. But, its just the lust/want factor. I will get over it eventually - must resist. Besides, Apple is likely working on a Plus version and I'm sure we are going to want that too.
