I don’t get the outrage.

$500 for headphones is nothing to an audiphile.

Audiophiles spend thousands. This price range would barely be considered mid-range. Something like Beyerdynamic DT 1990 would be around this price.

Problem is - those are niche brands. Apple is more of a consumer brand (higher end of the market). Audiophiles will probably not even look at these pair of headphones.

The silver ones are going to get discolored over time, aren’t they?

So when the battery no longer holds a charge do these become as worthless as my first general AirPods? And no professional is going to use Bluetooth headphones, especially if they have “computational audio” it’s clear that these are meant for the iJustine YouTube influencer market dummy’s.
I got a Sennheiser wireless headphones 5 years ago and they still hold a charge very well. Those were $379. This price does not seem outrageous.

£550 is too much. I’m not sure what they’re trying here. Also doesn’t really come with a proper case either.

Do I get to be an audiophile? My headphone rig is OPPO PM-1 and HA-1 amp. I ordered these AirPods Max. Should be fun!

I'm okay with the price tag.

But if and only if it's lossless on Wireless (at least 44khz 16 bit without any lossy compression, as I'll use it with Tidal)

But if for this price tag I get a 256kbps AAC recompression as with the standard airpods, then no, thanks, I wouldn't even buy for $100.
256kbps AAC is what it shows in the disclaimer at the bottom
I wonder how good the noise cancellation is relative to the Bose/Sony/Sennheisers top of the line models? Unless it is significantly better the price is way out of line for how I use headphones; which is for NC when on a plane. Comfort is important as well, because after 6+ hours my Bose 700's get uncomfortable.

Now for audiophiles, assuming their performance is comparable to the better ones, the priuce is not out of line.
Audiophiles want nothing to do with 256kbps AAC compression

They look painful. Angled in at the bottom quite a bit, too much space at the top. Like the ear parts don't pivot, or pivot enough. And without a full case, that 'canopy' isn't going to last through TSA lines and hustling between gates. It must be made for those that have private planes, and can avoid TSA, and running. They are priced at that level too.

Yikes...

Apple releases a 60k 'pro' computer' 1k mounts, .8k wheels. What's the perfect accessory? $560 headphones with a bra case and no protection. Apple isn;t 'for the rest of us' anymore. That ended long ago apparently.
Good ***** lord. First, you can read about the design and fit considerations right in the press release. Second, you can buy AirPods for $150. You don't need these. They aren't going to price everything they have at $150.

As an avid headphone collector (20 pairs and counting) I dont have one apple pair in my collection - not going to change now as these are fugly, overpriced and dont support any lossless codecs ?

"Adaptive EQ tailors sound to the bespoke fit and seal created by the ear cushions. Inward-facing microphones measure what you’re hearing, then adjust the frequencies of your music to deliver a rich, consistent experience that faithfully reproduces every note."

I know Apple prides itself in its adaptive EQ, but it is disappointing that they don't have a way to disable this feature or manually adjust it
