How does Apple Music know what songs are in my personal library?

With an Apple Music membership, your entire library lives in iCloud. We compare every track in your collection to the Apple Music library to see if we have a copy. If we do, you can automatically listen to it straight from the cloud. If you have music that’s not in our catalog, we upload those songs from iTunes on your Mac or PC. It’s all in iCloud, so it won’t take up any space on your devices.

That's exactly what match works, so Apple music sounds like its a replacement. Although Apple says its "complementary"

I guess that just sounds better.

Samsung Music launching two days later.

I hear it will have 2 (TWO!) 24/7 streaming radio stations... so that it can be TWICE as good. ;)

I'm still not sure about the value of streaming vs purchasing

If we embrace streaming, we burn more data. More data makes the partners that pay the subsidies for iPhone happier. So the value of streaming is first to the likes of AT&T, Verizon, etc. And once again, I'll point out that Apple innovations since iPhone seem to heavily revolve around data burn which, of course, is exactly what I would want from the innovative minds of Apple if I was AT&T, Verizon, etc and it was my subsidy model that was giving them most of their revenues & profits.

The value for us consumers is apparently centered in 2 things:
-access to any song any time we want it (and have a signal)
-new music discovery of songs we do not already own
If you own little-to-no music, you'll have access to almost all of it for $10/month. If you own lots of music you like, you may struggle with the "why rent vs. own?" dilemma.

Can someone explain to me what the 'it' thing is for this? Why do we care? Do we even care?

The "it" thing is that this is APPLE's version of streaming music.

Why we care is that this is APPLE's version of streaming music.

Do we even care? Of course we do because this is APPLE's version of streaming music.

After about 500 posts of this being the worst WWDC ever and that this music part is a joke, the ADF will establish a platform to start building up the argument that Apple "did it right" while simultaneously inventing reasons why Spotify, Pandora, etc are all increasingly "stupid" especially by heavily zooming in on discrete things that can be done in Apple's app that are not as well done in the competitor's apps as if those are the most important benefits.

The best part of this announcement is probably that everyone can try it for free for 3 months and see if this is an innovation that needs to grow on us. This may be a case of expectations overly sky high meeting reality, so the trial will see if reality is good enough.

I'm trying to work out the difference between the Apple Music "match" and iTunes Match. I don't have iTunes Match for a reason - I'm very particular about copies of the songs, tags, artwork etcetera. I like to manage my library myself. So I hope you don't *have* to let it scan your library for the "Cloud" portion of Music.

For someone like me, who enjoys live radio and looks for user created playlists, this is going to be really interesting. Spotify and Pandora have really lost their way in helping users find new music. I really think Apple Music will help. Finding new music is easier when new artists are introduced into a rotation, so it'll be interesting to see how new musicians will use the tools to connect with new fans.

Yes, please help me.
They happily announced the price but never told me what I get for it?
Pharell tweets?
Can I pick any song I want at any time?
Can I skip over stuff I don't like.
Is the entire iTunes library included?

Save your curated playlist for bullet points at the end and tell me what it really is.

Is iTunes Match going away?

$10 for Radio? I think Tidal just fell off their chairs laughing.
From Apple's site:

"Even without a membership, you can listen to Beats 1 radio, see what artists are posting on Connect, and hear our ad‑supported stations"

"For less than the price of most albums, you get access to the full Apple Music library, expert recommendations, our take on the best new music, and unlimited skips on our radio stations."

How is this different from iTunes Radio?

It costs $10/month?

Yeah, I'm seriously underwhelmed. I like that they are finally putting some attention to the long-borked Music app, but this seems like an expense I won't be taking on. It is time to move away from the iTunes ecosystem for music. I mean, this or Netflix? Netflix wins, hands-down, and is a couple bucks cheaper.

Do I get a discount with iTunes Match? If not I think I'll cancel iTunes Match and just get Apple Music
Yes this is getting weird. They should migrate iTunes Match in to iCloud or something and lower storage fees. As it is, now I have to pay $145/year for Apple's Music and my music (with Match) combined. Ugh.

Questions?
Here are our liner notes.

What happens to my iTunes library?
Your iTunes library is still yours. You can access your entire collection from Apple Music or the iTunes app on Mac or PC.

Someone has probably already explained this but I'll say it anyway since there seems to be some confusion. For 9,99 a month you can play all songs in iTunes how much you want and whenever you want. They have a radio show that's live that plays music they choose to play that has nothing to do with your music. And artists can post stuff on a "wall" and you can follow them. I'm positive that all other services that cost money will disappear and you'll end up with apple music(stream all of iTunes library for 9.99) and iTunes Store where you buy music like today.

if i have a subscription to the beats music app what happens to me?

What happens to my Beats Music service?

Once Apple Music launches on June 30, you can easily move your current Beats Music subscription over to Apple Music. Just open Beats Music on your iOS device and you’ll be prompted to join Apple Music. Once you’ve signed up, the playlists you’ve created or subscribed to and the albums you’ve saved in your Beats Music library will all be available to you in Apple Music.

Agreed. Iovine looked completely unrehearsed. His delivery was confusing, sloppy and distracting. Cook must have been groaning backstage. The Apple Music segment was a mess overall. It was difficult trying to understand what the big deal was supposed to be. Apple Radio was a yawn. Connect, meh. And Apple Music offers little more than Spotify and all the rest. I give this a big fat D for Dull and Don't Care. I think Amazon Prime and Google Play offer much better value.
Yep. I was groaning from my office.

It's okay Amazon Prime Music is better they just added Galantis -Pharmacy new album for Amazon Prime Music.

So is the Apple Music Library just any music that's sold on iTunes or is it limited?
