nearly 4 years after introduction , apple news still isnt available in europe lol

Didn't some countries in Europe try to levy a tax on Google a couple years ago for showing the first few words of articles in Google News during searches, and then Google shut down the service and forced them to backtrack? Why, frankly, would Apple or any of them set themselves up for that trap?

No NYT No WAPO. I'll stick with the free version.

Yes I was hoping the NYT and WaPost would have joined, but I understand why they didn't as their own subscription services are working well for them - I just subscribed directly to both once it was official they would not be part of Apple News+. :D

I need to see what magazines are in Apple News+ to see if it is worth moving to it versus maintaining my physical subscriptions.

I was looking for a hook to get me and didn't find it.
I thought it would have to be under $5 to get me to even look at it.
Boy did they miss that mark.
$10/month for listening to a choice of a million songs vs $10/month for a couple of magazines I may look at for a few pages?
No one raised their hand when this price was discussed?

Also, can you say when you start the trial or does it start when you update to new app?

What are you talking about? Plenty of people subscribe to music streaming but also subscribe to some major newspaper service and those are usually more than $10 individually. In fact, the best deal I've seen in a while was when NY Times had a temporary price of $13/mo. What adult in Apple's preferred target customer base has to choose between one or the other?

$10/month for something you can get for free by opening your web browser and visiting your favorite blog, message board, or youtube channel. some of these magazine are losing readers so quickly that they're offering their subscriptions for under $10/year, and in some cases for free.

It's not the same thing. Online news (intended as cnn.com or even nyt.com or wsj.com) is VERY different than its broadsheet brother. I stopped reading online news and it was one of the best choices I have made.

On the fence with this. Most news is ******** anyhow (see yesterday and today).

Magazines that are focused on hobbies and such are fine, but everything is ultra-political these days, so paying for fake news is not something a lot of people are motivated to do IMO. The two worst offenders are excluded though, so that's good.

I just called the WSJ to cancel my direct subscription with them, which is currently running $15/month but was scheduled to go back to their usual price of $35/month starting in April. The customer service rep asked why I was switching and I told him due to today's Apple News+ announcement that includes the WSJ. He seem well prepared for this and listed a bunch of WSJ features that wont be available on the News+ subscription, things like crosswords and Lifestyle stories, none of which I use or read. After finally giving up on that he offered to lower my subscription price to $20/month. I literally laughed out loud for a few seconds into the phone. I asked why would I pay twice as much as News+ to get the same content I need, not to mention a bunch of other magazines I may read on occasion. He finally relented and I could almost feel his head lowering on the phone as he quietly said he would process my cancellation request.

So with News+, are WSJ articles able to be viewed when clicking on a link from Twitter or a web search? Or only in the News app? If it's the latter, I may just keep my current subscription.

I'm going to subscribe today. Our family gets 6-8 magazines a month, some weekly and the year subs are $15-30+ a year. On top of that we always buy 1-3 magazines a month of newsstands that we don't subscribe to but have an interesting article or cover. I believe all or almost all of our magazines appear to be covered by the service so dropping these subscriptions and going with Apple News+ will likely save us money or at least break even. THEN we also get to browse hundreds of interesting magazines we might not otherwise read AND get newspapers etc. My wife and 2 kids all have their own iPads so this just makes sense.

I still hope this fall when prices for Arcade, TV etc. have been announced there will be an Apple Services+ subscription that saves you reasonable money if you want it "all" (Apple Music, iCloud, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+ etc.)

Well, I literally laughed out loud reading that anyone actually pays for the WSJ.

Why wouldn't someone pay for one of the last remaining news organizations that still does investigative journalism, much of which is focused on business and market issues that can mean the difference between being an informed investor and a clueless one?

Got to believe it is only in the News app because of Apple's privacy rules. They can't tell the WSJ you even subscribe from their rule set so how would WSJ identify you as a paid subscriber if you went to their site. Maybe there is a fix or something that Apple thought of but I doubt it.

Because most people are not investors and don't care about all this stuff at all?

Because everything you just said is a joke. People in finance read the WSJ to see what the public-version of events is, not for actual information.

Seems like the just released it a couple minutes ago. Installing now.

Off-topic but how I wish they made a Books+ service with decent content, unlike Amazon’s offering.

Now THAT would be something I could get behind, Books+ would definitely be worth $9.99!

This combines about 8 other subscriptions into one for me, and saves a ton of money. Definitely not complaining.

This. My WSJ subscription costs only ~$3 less per year than the News+ subscription will cost. This is a no brainer for me. This is coming out just in time too, as my WSJ sub is due to renew in May.
