I have a different question.... To upgrade to SL, do I need to delete/format my windows partition? Or, can I just do the upgrade, and access my windows partition when I'm done from SL?

Thanks!!

I would not be surprised to hear about IMac upgrades real soon in September.

Anybody else notice that the store is still all weirded out? I just went to look at Mac Pros and iMacs and the page won't let me configure anything. Also, i had a couple of saved carts I created two days ago with a Mac Pro and iMac, and now it says that the products i placed in those carts are no longer available. Are we getting a iMac and Mac Pro upgrade, too, or is this happening because of the whole Snow Leaopard change?

A couple of things are possible:

1.
Apple invalidated the old SKU number to differentiate between Snow Leopard and the old OS. That is the same hardware with SL will have a different SKU number.
2.
I would not be surprised if Apple came out with new iMacs real soon now. The last update was more than pathetic and they need a better CPU to maintain mid range pricing. Finally SL real could use more threads in hardware.
3.
As to the Mac Pro I don't follow this machine so obviously I don't know what is up. My sense is a proper hardware update isn't ready yet but that is a guess.

In theory… yes. ;)
But wait till after people have installed Snow Leopard and listen to the wailing…

Now that the announcement has been made I can say this much about the build number.

Apple Developer Connection has never had a "preview release" instantly turn into the "Gold Master" or the "Retail Version".. They have always put up the GM/Retail version on the ADC site the same day as release. In this case I'm guessing the GM/Retail version will be on the ADC site Friday. Aug.28th.

Now the reason I believe 10A432 is NOT the "GM" or "Retail Version" is because the "Preview Version" has a LOT of debug code in it whereas the GM/Retail version has very little. It is the same as the shipping version.

10A435 or 10A436 will be the GM build number.

As a side..This also means Jobs will not be doing the 9/9/9 keynote and there will not be any Apple Touch at that event because if there were any surprises one would see reference to it in the Retail version of Snow Leopard.

You've been arguing against 10a432 being the GM on a raft of bogus arguments since it came out. There is no way they are shipping out different discs Wednesday for delivery on Friday for a build no one has seen.

A little while ago, you were telling everyone the reason was because it didn't boot every Intel mac into the 64-bit kernel.

Now you're making bogus arguments about the preview release. Just recently, the final build of iPhone OS 3.0 was released to developers days before it came up in iTunes, and afaik, there is no DVD burning of iPhone OS.

Up-to date arrival

Nope. Mine also STILL says "September" as the ship date. Looks like all Up-to-Date orders are still saying "September" as a ship date. I wonder if this info is just not being updated or if ALL Up-to-Date orders are being shipped 4 days after the rest since these are the least profitable for Apple. Hopefully it is just a database type of glitch.

When Leopard was first released, I got my copy via the up-to-date program. As I recall, the disc arrived about a week after the release date. I suspect the same will be the case with Snow Leopard.

Fair enough

I've never gotten a student discount on Apple software. Only hardware.

I haven't made that many Apple purchases, so I don't know what normally gets discounted and what doesn't. Aperture 2 is roughly half-price as a student, was hoping that maybe SL would be too...

You used to get a student discount on software. They started to scale them back with Leopard which ended up being only like 8 bucks.

Oh well, never mind...

They aren't "bogus" until we see the real build number now are they ?

And for all I know Apple has completed the 64-bit boot for Mac Pro's etc.

And I have been an ADC member for 10 years and I have NEVER seen a preview build become the GM.

;)

As has been posted numerous times up-thread, Apple's OS announcement email specifically stated that if you pre-order before midnight on Wed (PT) you WILL get SL by Friday.

Now, it didn't say that also applies to UTD discs so people are welcome to angst over the wording.

I just ordered the family pack for my old MBP and iMac, but what about the free upgrades for a computer purchased in June?

I recently bought a MBP, and i remember in the past how Apple has given a free upgrade to those who bought new computers within 90 days of the release. Will I be able to get a free upgrade as well? Or will I need to go through the "Up-to-date" program?

Up to date program .. :(

Not so fast guys... i just checked my order status (pre ordered via the uptodate program on 1 August) and it still says "ships September". So unless you're in line at an apple store at midnight on August 27-28 you aren't getting SL until September.

This news totally made my morning... and whole day!

Placed a pre order!
$29 well spent.

My MacBook Air is going to feel new again. :D

Been discussed before. Just give it some time to update the ship status.
