I can't wait to come back here on Friday and read all the "Snow Leopard is just Leopard " and "Snow Leopard Sucks!!!!" topics :D

Then 1 month after:
Snow leopard fixes this! SL enables this and that!!! SL has this capability that it was hidden and some japanese website found it!

and the infamous default one: SL has info about iProd!!! YAY!!! :D

wait and see

:apple: I LOVE SNOW LEOPARD :apple:

Why ? It's an incremental upgrade to a computer operating system.

Party all day long, today is my birthday as well :D

Happy birthday.

My Apple store is an hour away, but Best Buy is 10 minutes away. Do you think they will run out quickly or will I be able to pick it up after work? Anyone have any experience from Leopard?

Too bad my university won't support Snow Leopard for some time. Outdated VPN and Clean Access Agent= no internet on campus for me. Guess I'll wait then. :(

I don't understand how is the VPN in Snow Leopard outdated? I would have thought it would be more advanced than Leopard's. Or are you saying that the university has outdated VPN?

Excited, but hesitant...

Part of me wants to jump on the $29 upgrade price before it changes.

The other part is anxious about any heretofore unseen issues with SL, especially with Bootcamp. I'd hate to have to uninstall and reinstall XP; I have some rather important work and music files. That, and I haven't had to reinstall OS X since I bought my Mac (November 2007)-- it's been rock solid! I have Time Machine and all, but still...

I'm usually not this wishy-washy about stuff, but I'm not sure I want to risk what I consider a nice situation for an OS whose main features-- OpenCL and Grand Central-- may not be of benefit to my slightly older iMac. Anybody know whether the ATI video card in my iMac can be used for OpenCL?

Not sure if this been posted but

Honor system. Some people do take pride in only using legal software, that is, software that has been properly licensed.

Using wrongly licensed software = stealing.

Plenty of folks still have honor, they can pay a pittance more and install the OS on five household computers in full compliance with the license.

As you point out, those without honor need not pay the additional $20.

apparently macrumors has been invaded by samurai, fierce pirate and ninja hating samurai.

anyway, clearly apple has priced the snow leopard update in a way that makes downloading it (pirates) and/or sneaky multiple installations (ninjas) seem fairly lame...but there are a couple of reasons why apple has never gone to any effort to attempt to stop illicit OS installing (on it's own hardware). first, it seems clear from a quick glance at microsoft's practices that anti-piracy measures do more to inconvenience 'honourable' customers than stop piracy. secondly, and perhaps more importantly, apple has always used software as bait to get customers to bite down on the hardware hook...apple makes its money selling machines, not code.

Actually, SL is sort of just Leo
I have been running the prerelease a few days and the difference is quite small. It is definitely there though....
I tend to believe that SL will give us better and better performance over time as developers learn how to code for it.

That's also the reason why Apple is not charging full price.

[Humour] It'll be iLife X and iWork X, to go with Quicktime X. [/Humour]

Whats the deal with "X"

approx how long til it's available in Apple Stores?

will they honor the update discount ($9.99) if i bring in all my receipts / relevant stuff even if i bought my MBP online?

you have to do it on line/

can't u go online with ur iTouch?

iPod Touch

and did he say he owns one? No,

I'm thinking it wioll stay this way

What store?

ummm the apple store

I just asked an apple online rep, which is better Mac OSX or Windows and I got the answer Mac OSX of course! Rather funny! I half expected them not to give an answer at all....

of course he would say that. But the truth is, both are good, both have their problems and greats....

but if you just click the chat button to ask that, then you have issues. There are other people with legit questions about an order and you think its cool to clog up the chat line to ask silly questions like that...

I think the answer was adequate, even polite, given that you willfully wasted this persons time and energy.

To the people replying to my post...

I tried two times prior to this to get a "straight" answer from the online help. Each time I was told that I could benefit from already having Leopard by purchasing the cheap upgrade version. Each time I asked them whether I'd be able to do a clean installation or whether I had to have Leopard pre-installed, they said that they didn't understand my question. My last ditch attempt was to take Leopard out of the equation.

Face it, the apple "experts" are experts at one thing only: reading from scripts.

I tried once more, this time claiming that I have an Air with no operating system and that I'd lost my installation discs. I was told that I'd need to buy the box set. I am, however, going to wait until people can confirm just how the eligibility check works.

"I've been playing with developer seeds and I can tell you from experience that Snow Leopard is faster," said the source. "The OS is more responsive, from a performance standpoint, and feels like a different OS. But the bells and whistles between OS 10.4 and 10.5 to OS 10.6 are not the same; the quantity has been reduced. That's why Apple lowered the price."

"Even though there will be fewer features in Snow Leopard than in previous iterations, the OS will still provide a good experience for users," said the source.

True? Is SL less feature rich? If so what features?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

Bring it on. I think Friday in an interesting choice of days. It is a good day in my opinion though.

rock on, placed my order about an hour ago... that said, I am really glad that I have a chance now to do a clean install/upgrade before getting any more involved with coursework (started my first week of classes today)- reason being, it usually takes me some time to get all my stuff situated after doing a clean install, so at least I'll still have the time to get that out of the way.

what's most exciting for me is that this is the first time I've ever bought a "brand-new" (well, more properly, "revised") OS... now it's just a matter of waiting another two weeks for the iPod event (I sold my old 2G touch about 2mo ago, so I'm really looking forward to having an iPod again!).

For those of you that purchased Leopard when it was released at the Apple store, were there a lot of copies available? Should I go and wait in line early?

Visually there's not much but I think that people will recognize how fast it is now, how stable it is (not that this was a problem)...

iPod Touch

.

keep your rolled eyes to yourself. His/her siggy said s/he owns a Touch.

And I can shorten it to whatever I like. Touch. MBP. SL. Why don't you correct the guy who called "Leopard" "Leo"?

snarky, much?
