Im having snow shipped to my apartment. I probably wont be there when it arrives. If its to big for my mail box it will go to the local post office which is about a 30 second walk from my house so I dont care. However if I have to sign something or it gets sent back to apple that would be bad. anyone know if that will happen?
Every order I have gotten from Apple has required a signature. I assume Snow Leopard will as well.

If its standard post then I presume I can just go to the post office around the corner and sign for it. that is if its going through regular canada post. if its fedex or something then im screwed. takes a good 45 min to get there.

FYI, I generally don't order things from Apple's online store but i'm not near academia or my nearest Apple store so I had to order online. I have a mailbox at UPS and they give us two different addresses depending on how we are recieving what, so usps has a PO box while UPS/FedEx use the building number.

Anyway I spoke to an Apple rep who said that they only ship out UPS/FedEx. Since my order says "priority" I assumed it was USPS but supposedly this isn't the case.

Apple does have a signature release form available on their site.

Pre-Order Snow Leopard

So i am here in west coast canada, pre-ordered SL from apple.ca yesterday.
It says it is "prepared for shipment" which means its ready, just has to be shipped right?
Then it says "ships by aug 28th" meaning it will leave apple warehouses on that date, or at my door by that date??

Sorry for being a "blonde" in the morning, but not enough java in me lol!!!!!

When will it arrive

If I'm in the U.S will the DVD arrive at my house on the 28th, or will they just ship them out on the 28th? How does that usually work?

It will arrive at your house on the 28th. I've pre-ordered Tiger and Leopard and they both arrived on launch day.

well, using basic English comprehension: "prepared for shipment" means it is ready for pick up. "Shipped" means it is in transit. "Ships by" means it will ship before the given date. "Delivered by" means you will receive it on the date given.

Why do smart people here suddenly go brain dead and display child like reading and comprehension skills when Apple is about to ship something new?

Is it REALLY that important which day the disc is delivered? We'll find out soon enough. Once few million people have installed SL we get a new gigantic thread about waiting for 10.6.1 because "bug X" really disturbs one's life and people seem to be unable to blame themselves for installing dot-zero software on the earliest opportunity.

Yes, it is always exciting waiting for new OS but come on! Some people will probably get it a day early, some few days late, what's the big deal?

damn it. looks like I wont be there to receive it and since its an apartment they probably wont drop it off.

HOWEVER!! my apartment buzzer goes to my cell phone. soooooo. if I presign. leave the writeup on my apartment door and ask him to leave the box in front of my apartment then everything should be fine right?

I dont care about the chances of it getting stolen. thats not likely. im at the end of a hall and the people across from me seem nice so they wont steal it.

BTW. I dont care about having it on the first day. or the first week. I just dont want to have to go all the way over to the fedex depot. I wont install until im sure my life blood (all adobe and logic9 plus my thousands of dollars in plugins) works great.

Followed by another gigantic thread about how could Apple release such a pile of garbage and wouldn't it have been better to wait a few months and get it right?

My plan is to check my order status on thursday and if it hasn't shipped then Ill cancel my order and buy it at the reseller in the morning. Hopefully if it ships thursday Ill get it friday coz i live so close to the factory!

I guess some users are more apprehensive to get their hands on Snow Leopard more than others. Maybe some are wondering why in the US Apple are shipping it so users get it on Friday, while in the EU Apple seem to be shipping it on the Friday.

So happens I am in the EU category, to be fair if Apple did ship it on Friday it would be the first pre-order I've ever done that's shipped on release date. It would be handy to have on Friday, if it doesn't arrive by the Saturday for me I'll have downloaded it anyway. Just send back the SL retail disc when it arrives.

Toys out of a pram? Maybe so, maybe it's slight confusion as to why theirs a sizeable Apple "tax" on it as well.

Can anyone tell me how the licensing for the Family pack works? Is there some registration mechanism, etc, that enforces this?

Why would someone purchase the family pack in lieu of the single license version other than the honor system?

The honor system is everything.

I don't understand the £25 "upgrade" pricing. Do I get a FULL RETAIL DVD for this price, or is it an UPGRADE only DVD?. Could be misunderstood quite easily.

Also, I have a Mac which qualifies for the "Up to date", £7.95 program; can I get this price IN STORE?...

None

Because buying and using software outside of the software licensing is defined as piracy. Plain and simple. The price for a family back is less than the price of two single licenses. Buy the licence that applies to you.
