As soon as we get the chance to crack one open I'll let you know, its not listed on the box and Apple have said that if we sell or open any there will be "consequences" lol :)

perhaps after thousands of us have received our copy on the 28'th, we will know what build number you have had in your unopened boxes today. :D

Here's the thing; I am NOT going to buying the box set for £129, when I have just bought a Mac mini for £450 only a month back. I don't mind spending £25 for the "upgrade" disc, but I NEED TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL!. I don't like doing upgrades, it just doesn't feel good. I like clean, fresh OS's.

I know there will be some Javascript(?) checking for a previous version, so I am sure that all I would have to do is modify the install-checker script to NOT look for my Leopard (which I got WITH MY MAC MINI), right?.

Thanks.

Install Leopard first then you should have no problem.

-7 for honor, dignity, and righteous self-respect
-1 for cleverness (still in the minus since it it would be used in a negative context)

-100 for your smart comments; what on EARTH are you on about?. What does dignity and self-respect have to do with what I asked?!. There is nothing dishonorable about installing an OS which is legally purchased, and used in EXACTLY the same was as if I WERE upgrading Leopard to Snow Leopard.

What you're implying, is basically the same as a hardware shop saying: "we will sell you this paint, but you MUST paint it OVER the old paintwork, and not strip the wall bare first. If you strip the wall bare, you are breaking the agreement of sale". What B*LL*CKS!. The only reason they DON'T allow you to do a fresh install with UPGRADE DVD, is so that you cannot install it on Macs which have no Leopard, hence the pricing. As I have no intention of installing on any Mac except the one which the upgrade DVD is purchased for, I am doing no wrong.

The end result is the same - I will be running SL instead of Leopard, on a qualified (and LEGAL) Mac mini. You are a crazed, self-righteous man.

amazons giving discounts on all the snow leapord packs. i canceled my apple.com order and ordered from amazon

I also ordered the Family Pack from Amazon.

Total cost with $15.00 promotional discount was $34.00. No Tax and two-day free shipping as I'm a prime subscriber.

If anything... clean install Leopard then immediately after upgrade to SL.

That's what I will do.
(Unless a clean install it's possible.)

:)

if you already have leopard installed why do you need to do a clean install of Leopard first? Your going to run the SL installer and choose the Erase and Install option, this means it will completely erase your HDD and then install a clean copy of Snow Leopard.

perhaps a little strong and i dont mean to have anyone feel offended, so i have removed my previous post and just say that hacking up the installation media cause you feel somehow that it is justified... I think would still be wrong. nothing more and each to their own. just cant offer any help with that and others may agree before offering their help for you to do that circumvention.

As far as I can tell, the $29 is for updating / upgrading your leopard installation. Not a fresh install of Snow Leopard where no Leopard 10.5.x installation is present. If this would not be part of the license agreement, please let me know and I would be glad to stand corrected.

Kind of weird -

I ordered the up-to-date SL DVD for my new Mini on 8/21 that reflects it ships by 8/28 and the my upgrade SL DVD for my MBP on 8/25 says it is preparing for shipment and arrives by 8/28.

There IS no erase & install option on ---> UPGRADE <--- DVDs, and I actually did know this, but thanks.

You appear very sure of yourself, my friend - it makes NO difference whether or not Leopard was on my HDD before I upgrade, because it will be replaced by SL *after* the upgrade, which brings me to the very same situation I would be in, had I bought the FULL RETAIL DVD. I would not be able to use Leopard in EITHER situation, because I would have installed Snow Leopard, and the ORIGINAL restore DVDs are of no use EXCEPT on my model, so what, prey tell, is the difference?. So you think I should go out and buy the Box Set, when I already own, & am licenced to use iLife '09?.

I don't think so!.

the UPGRADE part means you have to have Leopard already in order to upgrade to SL, there is no indication and no reason why you wouldn't have the Erase and Install option available in the installer also, as the consideration also has to be taken into the fact that we may want to reinstall again in future, not just when going from Leopard to Snow Leopard.

Admittedly, it's been a while since I did my Leopard upgrade, but as I recall, there IS an erase and install option on the upgrade disc. You go through the installer to the point where you select which hard drive you want to install onto. The upgrade disc looks, at that moment, to see whether there is an upgradable system current on the hard drive. If there is not, you cannot select it for the upgrade. But if there is, you can, and then you can press the "Options" button in the lower left corner of the screen. From there, you can select Upgrade/Archive/Erase.

exactly and the only difference with Snow Leopard is the Erase and Install option has been moved to Disk Utility so you would just go in there and do the Erase and Install option, this would all be after SL has already validated that you have Leopard installed

You're just being very silly indeed, and I suggest that you make good use of your high horse, before it falls lame.

Yes I am VERY sure that hacking up the installation media is wrong. No one needs to be on a high horse to know that. Just what are you riding to think that you can modify apple's installation scripts to suit your particular needs / wants. Who's being silly and even lame here?

Feel free to have the last word of course, its a silly argument that takes two to tango...and im not dancing.

 I sit corrected, sorry

I didn't realise this was the case, and I apologise for being an arrogant fool.

Ok here is one for you I am not talking about the torrent 432 build but the genuine paid for $29 £2x disk

if you have upgraded or WHY will you then be able to reinstall snow leopard 10.6 without having to qualify with having 10.5.x on the HD

I have a very balanced & fair sense of morality, and if I thought it was IMMORAL to do so, I wouldn't do so. I do not feel it is immoral, should it prove necessary. Sheesh! :D

Would you splutter that again, preferable in a READABLE, grammatically correct format?. I didn't understand a WORD of what you intended to say, sorry.

... probably NOT the best place to be discussing the knowledge of torrented Apple discs!

When you have upgraded or WHY ( What Have You ), meaning what ever install you have done .

Will you then be able to reinstall snow leopard 10.6 without having to qualify with having 10.5.x on the HD

Is that better

if you've already upgraded from Leopard the first time you installed Snow Leopard it validated Leopard on that install, for subsequent re-installs the installer sees you already have Snow Leopard installed so doesn't need to validate Leopard.

The exception would be if you need to completely erase your drive, or have installed a brand new hard drive then the Snow Leopard installer will again need to validate Leopard, so you may need to install Leopard first but hopefully SL has a validation where you can just insert the Leopard DVD to verify you qualify to upgrade.
