I do agree though that a subscription plan for something like Final Cut iPad seems out of whack though as it will mostly be hobbyists and short form content creators uploading stuff to social media who want to use this software.
Many of those hobbyists and short form content creators uploading stuff to social media are still making money. And I doubt they’ll even blink at adding one more $5.00 subscription to all the others they’re already paying for.

Why should I change the way I am using computers? I don't see any advantages in doing that. None at all. The iPad makes all tasks I need to complete on a computer much more complicated and cumbersome. Why would I want that? Please enlighten me.
Because it's 2023 ... I've been changing the way I've used computers many times in the past 35 years, hell I've changed the way I drive, and the way I educate myself thats the way tech works.

Sure there are certain tasks that are certainly more cumbersome to the point of hateful on a tablet regardless of trackpad and keyboard, (I hate editing wordpress templates on an iPad for example) but many that are not, and instead have simply become far more portable and in some cases far outclass their desktop equivalents.
The iPad is even for basic stuff not good enough. I am not using it wrong, I just have expectations from my devices. I want them to work.
And yet better than desktop depending on the use case - and in many professional applications too from medical to multimedia.

Desktops have their place, so do tablets - Doesn't work for you, great. But they are a game-changer, for the better in a whole lotta other professions.
The iPad is the answer to a problem that doesn't exist.
Theres a difference between doesn't exist and not knowing it existed in the first place.

The automobile was also an answer to a problem that didn't exist. Horses were just fine, cars weren't that much faster for a long while after.

At some point those kids will need a Mac to drive professional audio productions and then they'll spend fifty fold or more than they do with (high end iPad with FCP/LP) to get to that point, not just on Apple gear, but mostly on Audio Interfaces, Studio Monitors, Analog components, high end mics, amps, room treatments, etc.
I’m sure at one point, there was someone that looked at some kid buying a Mac and mused, “They’re going to eventually need something that runs VisiCalc.”

And it’s probably news to many that one cannot release music without spending fifty fold or more than what an iPad costs.

A real concern, given what happened to folks with FCP7 projects. Yes, eventually there was a workflow to get those projects working in FCPX. But how about today? If you have an FCP7 project you want to revisit? You know what you need to get it working? FCP7. Try to run that on a modern machine.
It's also a no buena if you have a problem with your bank or your credit card and you lose access to your work software. Like if your bank card is hacked, etc. I guess Apple wants you to get an Apple Card so you can hurry up get another vassel / slave job before you lose access to your work tools.

Curious on the sound library for Logic though. Currently it’s like 77gb total for the Mac Version, so if it’s still that large, then people will be buying larger storage IPads for sure, including the size of the projects themselves.

Looks cool but i don’t think i would actually use it over my mac. I just find the iPad so much less productive for some reason. Time will tell.

Small beans vs what they spend on the rest of their infrastructure. Most social media and SEO tools are $100+ per month EACH. And that doesnt include spend on followers, backlinks, ads etc...

Being able to properly edit a youtube short, tik-tok or facebook video on-the go is well worth the $5 to virtually any content creator who isn't nailed to their desk doing their hair or unboxing.

Am I the only one who got sick of the subscription models?

I feel like there should always be a perpetual, or permanent licence option with every subscription. Before we know it, we'll be paying out dozens of companies and struggling to keep track of all the payments. Some are organized enough, but life gets busy and sometimes we forget. This is what they're counting on. Maybe the EU will enforce subscription software developers to also offer a permanent license some day. ;)

Before developers would have to give people a reason to pay an upgrade price. Now theoretically they can sit around and do nothing and get paid. This is going to sound harsh, but sometimes I see software subscriptions as ransomware: "continue pay us or you don't get to use our software". I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea.

I use my iPad Pro with a USB-C hub. Aux in and audio out. I can connect my guitar and midi keyboard and over-ear headphones. Works great. AU plug-ins work with GarageBand but Logic should open my projects and I can continue from there, likely using the same set up I already have.
I use my iPad with Garageband in a similar way for live performances. I hope Logic can do the same and more. The price of $50/year is absolutely amazing. For people who don’t want a subscription, they should also not ask for new features after they pay for it. That’s not a sustainable model and it leads the software to being abandoned.

Whatever the ipad version of logic is it won’t be able to do every that the Mac version does

So these sorts of price comparisons don’t really make much sense

It whatever it can do will be much more difficult

How many windows can you have open on an ipad?
Can you confirm it doesn’t support plug ins? I’ve read it does.

Multitouch is already one way the iPad could be better. Pencil support too. If you use a mouse/trackpad and keyboard with the iPad, what would be fundamentally different in terms of input? I can have FILES and many other windows open and floating, I’ve become pretty proficient with Stage Manager on the 13” iPad. My AU plug ins and external instruments and devices also work great with GarageBand, so they should work with Logic Pro.

No thanks to Subscription based models and I prefer to pay full price🤯🥺

Dayum, not a fan of subscriptions. Just why, why do they have to do this? At least give us a choice between lifetime and timed plans. I’d be willing to pay €400 for this.

Sadly I feel like this is going to be a new trend for Apple to boost their "services" numbers.

Nice, but I thought they would've revived the names "Final Cut Express" and "Logic Express" for the iPad versions of these apps, as I'm certain they have noticeably less features than the MacOS versions. But they do look keen!
That would have been a good idea actually. However I"m sure they don't want people to regard these apps as a step down from the MacOS versions, especially if they want people to pay a subscription for them.

Or you can just run down to the local store and buy an Apple Voucher?

The better question is how long until the Mac is no longer supported by Apple. Because that’ll definitely happen first.

You think Apple will stop supporting macOS before they charge a subscription fee for Final Cut on the Mac?

I mean I get Apple won’t support the Mac forever, but I bet that is still 1-2 decades away yet.
