Agreed. If people have this much of an issue with $50 a year, please take a look at how much I pay for 3ds Max!
The money isn't the issue. It's the fact that these apps have been one-time paid apps for Mac since time immemorial. Also not being able to move back and forth from the iPad and Mac with FCP projects when DaVinci can do this is absolutely stupid, considering these are natively integrated Apple apps.

With Mac app costing $300 up front, that's 6 years subscription. I think that Apple finds one time buy without ever paying for upgrade too cheap. I bought Final Cut Pro X in 2011. 10+ years without paying for upgrades. Impossible to do for most companies, even for Apple perhaps.

So was 3ds max until a few years ago. So was Adobe since V1…..things change. It’s shown because FCP on Mac is basically on life support.

Subscription??!??!?!! What a crock. That really grinds my gears.

Maybe if Apple didn’t ignore these products for years on end and pushed out updates and features like the competition it would seem worth it. But why am I inclined to pay $100 a year for a stagnant product? When Apple had FCP, Shake, Color, Motion, Cinema Tools, & the other apps…it was a real powerhouse of not only consumers but professionals. Today the professional apps are a joke and they want us to pay for the subpar tools. Go pound sand. Logic has gotten dumbed down over the years and lacks some thing, basically because Apple doesn’t pay attention to it often enough.

Apple, I will pay money when you pay more attention.
It’s stagnant because you paid $300 10 years ago. The dev team is not getting enough revenue to make much more of an effort. They should have released 11,,12, 13 ets all with $300 purchases. This is how it was in the old days.

I bought M2 iPad because I hoped they will soon allow us to install OSX to iPad. In that case connecting keyborad, mouse and external display or 4K TV this can be used as really good travel workstation.
0% of professional Logic users are using stock plugins, if this is not native OSX app none of plugins can be used.
The onky reason why I'm using Logic over ProTools is because I don't wanna to pay subscription for ProTools.
Waves recently canceled plugin sale in favor of subscription model and because of users backslash in 24h CEO apologize and reverted purchase model.
It's not about price at all. Problem is that people do bit like subscription models because it reminds too much on mortage. We like to pay once and bye bye.a
I tested garage band on ipad and it's a very sad and unusable app. This will be probably garage band on steroids, but still app for fun and kids.

More reason iPad Pro should run MacOS since it's a one time purchase and not subscription. iPadOS is turning into a subscription trap with other apps like Clip Studio Paint that's subscription vs desktop counterpart that's one time purchase.

If it means they put more attention on it? Sign me up.

I wouldn’t assume that would be the case

I’ve also never had an issue with the amount of attention logic gets

It’s an phenomenally good deal that gets better all the time

You're telling me we can use AudioUnits in Logic Pro on the iPad?
In theory, but my izotope and Waves plug-ins both have Mac apps that you have to use to sign-in to and manage your subscriptions/purchases/updates, etc. I doubt we’ll see them on the iPad anytime soon. I assume some plug-ins developers will jump on the train and others will ignore the fact that Apple even sells something called an iPad. YMMV.

Who would do any serious sound mixing work in a cafe with a set of Bluetooth headphones as depicted in the image below? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Arranging and putting down ideas maybe, but mixing a +10 track song with a gazillion effects like this dude? No.

… oh wait: notice the AirPod pro max. Then he must be a pro. I take my words back.

Agreed!

Happy to pay for $300 for Aperture (remember that program?) that Apple made. But, not happy to be paying $10/month for Aperture subscription (if that existed).

I'm repeating myself, but to me, a subscription generally feels out of control for managing my finances. I typically do not want subscription because of that. There are some things that makes sense as a subscription because you are purchasing a service, such as newspaper, phone communication, iCloud storage, and so forth. But it doesn't make sense for most software (to me) that requires no active input from the vendor for end user to use that version of the program.

These aren't full equivalent Pro apps that are on the Mac.

My only issue with subscriptions is how the subscription/activation is handled. I've been burned a few times by purchasing software that ends up not being able to start up in airplane mode, or having to "re-authenticate" at the worst possible moment, or simply hanging or crashing without any info whatsoever.

I just had that issue last year, with a MacOS app where I bought a license and when it couldn't activate through the company proxy server the support informed me that there is no alternative activation option because they actually outsourced that to a company and use their activation servers. I ended up having to go through the credit card issuer to get my money back.

So yeah no thanks, I exclusively use software nowadays that offers offline activation such as Ableton.

I don't care about the subscription pricing, I just don't want the risk of being at a customer's location and going, oh yeah hold on a minute, guest wifi doesn't support this app, need to get a hotspot going real quick, no 4g in this building, is there a room where windows open or can you walk me back to reception? Been there, done that.
Why would you be activating a brand new subscription at the client's location? You would already be subscribed and using the software before you go there.
