It'll most likely be the equivalent of Final cut on M1 Air.
I haven't used Final Cut much but I've been using Logic for 16 years. I can't wrap my head around using Logic on an iPad, especially since I rely heavily on 3rd party audio unit plugins for it. My assumption is that there's no way to install them on iPadOS. I'm curious if it will be like Logic Pro in super basic mode or if will have advanced features of the full Logic Pro desktop software.

Xcode next?

I would love this. I don’t see it happening, but even some kind of basic version of Xcode would be most welcome, something that maybe just does regular development and doesn’t have all the profiling tools or any bells and whistles. I’d be happy with being able to just write apps and compile them and save desktop Xcode for profiling/testing/etc.

The pricing is fine, and the subscription model makes sense. Anyone here quibbling about $4.99 a month isn't the audience for this product, which is fine, you have iMovie to use.
It isn’t the actual amount that bothers me, just the principle of having to keep paying to rent software that will stop working if you stop paying.

Kind of expected. But OS is still too walled and restricted for such pro work.
Sorry for being obtuse here, but what do you mean that it's too walled and restricted for pro work? What would I not be able to do with Logic Pro or Final Cut on the iPad that would be better on something like Android? I mean, we're talking about mobile here, yes?

Unpopular opinion: a subscription makes a pro tool accessible to amateur filmmakers and keeps Apple engaged in updates and paying attention to their pro apps in an ongoing basis. $49 per year is fair. I paid the $400 for the Mac version but I'm happy to pay $49 per year to have it on my iPad Pro.

If a subscription model keeps a division engaged in ongoing development, could we get Aperture back?

That poor man in the picture is using Logic Pro over Bluetooth. Over Bluetooth! Probably wouldn’t trust his sound design.

Besides the subscription issue, I'm more worried about the workflow.

A): storage. When I shoot, I got Gigabytes of footage. I could copy that on an SSD, but the iPad version of FCP does not seem to support external storage. Copy the footage to the iPad? It would be full within weeks.

B): Continuity: It's nice to do a first raw edit on an iPad while being mobile, but once I'm back in my office, I'd like to continue editing on my work station. The files are stored locally, so how would I transfer the project and more importantly my footage to the Mac?

C) Compatibility: Are the iPad version and desktop version identical in terms of functions? Can I open a Mac project on the iPad?

what do you mean there is no other option? for starters, this app didn't even exist on the iPad previously... secondly, there are free alternatives like imovie out there. if logic pro or final cut pro are actually an important part of your workstream then $50 a year is literally nothing to you.
I meant the option between subscription model and one-time payment.

Apple created its apps to help sell hardware. Maybe iPad subscriptions of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro will be free/discounted for new iPad Pro models...

How many folks are using FCP professionally these days? That’s not a rhetorical question, it’s sincere.
We had a poll recently in a sony-fx-camera group in facebook - and while premiere and davinci were in the lead, FCPX was not far off. I use all three of them professionally (Premiere at my employed work because my employer wants it that way, FCPX as a self employed because time equals money snd I'm faster with FCP and DaVinci for grading).

Certainly unpopular opinion but for a professional software, subscription makes sense for a lot of users and their companies due to amortization.
The same is true for one time purchases. When adobe switched to subscription, I calculated that it would take my company - I used to update every three versions - about ten years until the subscription model would pull ahead and become more expensive in the long run. My company is just me, mostly, but for larger ones with dozends of seats this can make a significant difference, financially.

why didn't they save this for wwcd I wonder?
Because this was likely in the pipeline, since rumored for 2 years now and also maybe they have plans for Xcode for a Dev conference, or maybe they're going to announce a refresh of FCP for Mac that also is subscription that ties into the iPad version, you pay for the service you get both maybe? Maybe iPadOS Pro is a true rumor?

The real reason though is likely due to a sales decline and people ripping iPad Pro as not a real laptop replacement. Apple sees this as an opportunity to increase sales ahead of whatever they have ready to announce at WWDC.

True, I guess this heavily depends on how often do you need access to the new features and how much value these features can add to your company over time. I'm on Affinity myself (apart from Lightroom/Photoshop bundle) but I fully understand how Adobe's ecosystem makes more sense for larger organizations due to updates they are pushing to their CC apps.

At WWDC they will unveil a subscription model for these apps for the Mac
Agreed, but it may be tied into the subscription? Maybe if you pay for iPad you get macOS new version also or vice versa. We can only hope. Really think those of us that paid for macOS version should get iPadOS version for free.
