I barely use the camera. My iPhone X still has 95% battery health. I can't see anything at all that would get me to upgrade at all.
And that's ok. You don't have to upgrade every single year. The vast majority of people don't.

So...it's very nice. It means just having my phone on my desk just about anywhere it will always be unlocked for me. Very convenient.

Not impressed. I will keep my iPhone XS Max for another year. The 3 camera design is hideous looking.

Same here. The camera stuff is ok but doesn't justify an upgrade this year for me. I plan on skipping 2020 as well so I can have more features to upgrade to from my XS Max

Doesn’t look as bad as the previous design leaks led to believe. It was assumed to be a bump, but it’s actually recessed. They did it well.
Agreed - it looks stunning, and quite “Pro” IMO. It really shows the difference of average joes imagination and the skilled design team at Apple.
Well done Apple!

I was expecting MacBook Pro 16 inch in the final.
This will be next big disappointment because Apple will use Intel Comet Lake CPUs with so many cores that TDP limit of cooling system does not have a chance to dissipate power efficiently (forget about large copper heatpipe like in Xiaomi Mi Pro or Razer ultrabooks). Much slower rate DDR4 interface than in Ice Lake and twice slower internal GPU (so AMD GPU required). 4 cores 28W Ice Lake is more than enough for Apple cooling system where enclosure is part of radiator.

iPhone X. Almost 2 years old. 87% battery health. No need to upgrade this year. 3 years on one iPhone. Will be the longest period without an upgrade. This after going 6 Plus, 6S Plus, 7 Plus and X. Nothing drawing me in. Half tempted to get the 11 for the 6.1. Don’t want to give up resolution and OLED.

I think I’m gonna buy the Apple smart battery case for my xs Max & ride out til 2021

I'm waiting for the iPhone 12 Pro Max Ultra Turbo.

The stupid names aside, the +4h battery life would mean that in real life I'd probably only have to charge the phone only once a day on busy days (besides the all-night charge) and on slow days I might actually survive without having to charge. I'd buy that but I assume the pricing will be ~$1200 which translates to pretty much 2000e when it finally arrives to our backwater. Most of my clients won't be willing to pay that much for a laptop so I've got a hard time justifying buying a phone that expensive.

The new watch looks almost interesting (as it, too, seems to survive almost a full day on a charge) but if I can't find an iPhone that meets my needs I'll finally have to look elsewhere and that means I won't have any use for the watch either.

And yes, you can pay it in monthly instalments but that doesn't make the total price any lower. But it still manages to get loads of people to buy it even though they can't really afford it. Oh well, Someone Else's Problem.

I have pro cameras and thousands of dollars in lenses. They aren't always with me. Or convenient.

You don't care for pictures of your kids? Hmmmmm
Yes, that's why I have a camera in my phone. However, I don't buy a smartphone for the camera, I buy it for SMARTthings it's supposed to allow me to do. What are you going to do with your brand new 1000 plus camera, have your kids pose for your "professional" photos?

You don't care for pictures of your kids? I sure hope I misunderstood that.
Well good for you and the love of professional photography. I though we were talking about a smartphone, not a smart camera.

Good for you. People buy what they buy for their own reasons. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's wrong. I use my phone for a variety of tasks and the camera is important to me so I'm willing to spend the money for that. Actually for two, for my wife and I.

The top two things the majority of smartphone shoppers want are camera and battery life.

I never said it was wrong for you to buy the phone. I only stated my own personal opinion of why I don't like it. Didn't know you need to feel validated in your own decisions.

well you thought wrong. All smart phones have cameras. And one of the things all smart phones upgrade every year is that camera. Get used to it.

Not sure why they had to name it pro.
New naming convention was the only good thing because previously Cook made a total mess with product names.
From marketing point of view new naming convention divide iPhone consumers for "pro" and "non pro" which is a sociology trick so one group may feel better than other or worse than other to desire more expensive product (everyone wants to be pro(fessional) in every area).

I like the green. Still hate the camera bump always have so color really don’t matter as it needs a case due to the dumb camera bump. My iPhone X battery is no longer getting me through the day so sadly need to upgrade. But very underwhelmed with the so called upgrade.

Exact same for me. I have an iPhone X with a bad battery and was really hoping to upgrade this cycle. I think I’ll just have my battery replaced. “Better camera and a little faster” is NOT innovation. It’s just keeping up with current standard. I remember when Apple used to SET the standards.

Actually you didn't state your opinion. You asked a question to which I responded.

"Who pays 1099 USD for a camera these days?"

The question mark makes it a question, correct?

To which you then told me what I should buy. Didn't sound like opinion.
