Very nice, but not compelling enough for me to upgrade from my iPhone X (256 GB Space Gray). I'll wait for the 2020 iPhone models, which may include a change to USB Type C connectors, possibly a smaller front sensors for Face ID, and 3GPP NR 5G support.

This is going nowhere. Google me and then let’s return to the topic.

Cameras are a great thing for apple to focus on because cameras are a key differentiator between phones.

Haha it was a good back and forth. I can appreciate moving on.

I can agree the camera is a differentiator between phones, but that is typically for the “S” model year. Given that this is the next numeric model up, the new updates were lackluster compared to previous releases.

For example: the iPhone 6 vs 6S, 8 megapixels to 12 megapixels. They didn’t call the 6S the iPhone 7.

The only difference, historically, between S years and non-S years has been the physical design. Many - if not more - major technological changes have come in S-years.

So from the 8 to the X, Face ID was not a major technological change? Or even the 6/6S to the 7, solid state home button? I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with your argument. “S” model years were always minor changes. If you recall, Steve called the “S” updates for “Speed” not “MTC” (Major Technological Changes).

What a straw man argument. Where did I say NO MAJOR TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES in non-s years?

And you are wrong:

4S: added Siri
3GS: voice control, double-speed processor
5S: 64-bit
6S: 3D Touch and Touch ID

Etc. etc.

Lots of huge technological changes in S-year phones.

YUGE!

I consider this the:

iPhone XSS

Haha. I mean let’s be real. The iPhone X was a real win for those who got in on it bc there ain’t much difference

Lol woah take a chill pill 3 degrees.

Am I wrong?

4S: Siri major feature—sure, but let’s be real, who used Siri when this came out?
3GS: as stated before, it was the first “S” model so not really a major upgrade from the 3G
5S: yeah I know a lot of people that said I’m upgrading from the 5 because the 5S has 64-bit encryption!
6S: the 6 had Touch ID

Revisit your statement:
The only difference, historically, between S years and non-S years has been the physical design. Many - if not more - major technological changes have come in S-years.

Definitely a straw man argument when you stated “the only difference...has been the physical design”. And to think I haven’t brought up your narcissistic comment “google me”. I know you must be loving our conversations ;)

They really upped their camera game. Can't wait to see how it performs in low light. For now, it seems like Apple is still playing catch up with Google's low light performance algorithm.

Does it run iOS? No? Then your comparisons are irrelevant. Comparing iPhones software support to Android? Absolutely clueless.

It is funny how TILL THIS DAY people like you still show up flogging “oh this android phone has more features” rubbish. Hardware features are irrelevant if the software is garbage, iOS continues to outperform android on lesser hardware. Why? Because it IS better. Because it is built by the same people who build the hardware. Show me how smooth scrolling is on an android phone? Still feels like garbage compared to an iPhone 5.

I honestly liked the keynote (missed most of it due to crazy life stuff) but I am happy with everything. I wonder if the iPad Pro will get updated in October or silently.
Also IMO this is the update we should have gotten last year and then have the redesigned 2020 iPhone this year. *I think that would’ve helped sales too. The A13 seems okay, I doubt it’s really 20% faster, (probably 10% but meh.) I’m glad they are throwing so much display tech and improvements here but I honestly hope this or next year is the last of OLED, and we get Micro LED with ProMotion, but if we HAVE to have OLED... I want a boost of refresh rate to at least 90hz and pencil support.
I like the new WiFi standard, cool new tracking feature tech, the cameras are incredible, and the 18 watt charger is very late... but nice.

I like that communist green iPhone. Would look nice with a communist red ceramic Apple Watch.

Seriously :)

I seriously can’t get over how ugly the three separate camera lenses are within the huge camera bump is. I understand that it is completely subjective and purely just my opinion but I think it’s by far the ugliest iPhone they’ve ever released.

My 6 had Touch ID

Same here. I saw enough to bite on. But never use a case. The gold seems lighter. Maybe it’s the pics or that’s it’s matte. Leaning toward green.

Chip. 20% faster.

Screen. Contrast is doubled along with increased brightness. Big difference.

Cameras.

Speaker has different branding for wide stereo called spatial audio. Supports Dolby atmos

WiFi 6.

Longer battery.

Yea I think they are solid improvements all around. Pretty much what we have seen for the last 12 years. I think I’ll drop down to the 5.8 though.

  • 4 hours more battery life
  • 30% more screen brightness and double the contrast with HDR10
  • quadruple the field of view in videos and photos
  • dual camera videos
  • 50% larger video sensor
  • Can practically take photos in the dark
  • 30% faster FaceID that works at more angles and larger distances
  • 20% faster CPU and GPU
  • Dolby Atmos
Yeah pretty insignificant upgrade.

Battery Life - every year we are promised one hour more but in real life its not enough.
Screen - the iPhone X screen is great anyways. I doubt if the peak brightness drastically improves overall experience.
Very specific use cases for Dual Camera video. If you really do a lot of video this makes sense.
Night Photos - Apple is late tot the party. Pixel and other Android phones have been doing this for a much lower price.
Faster CPU and GPU - Don't think any apps utilise the power of the A12 too. A13 is nice to have but not a must have.
FaceID - That's not an upgrade. It should have worked like that in the first place

No wonder thay had to resort to so much marketing jargon to sell this iPhone Xss

Does anyone else have an XS and just feel like, theirs is good enough and will be for the time to come?

Of course it will. iPhones are typically good for 4-5 years easy. Nobody needs to upgrade every year and there’s no reason Apple shouldn’t come out with an upgraded phone every year. Buy when it makes sense for you.

The design is bad and very unattractive but the 4 hours extra battery life is impressive.
I won’t upgrade unless there is a really good / special deal.

They're having a laugh with the UK pricing, the iPhone 11 starts at £729 and the all singing all dancing iPhone 11 Pro Max tops out at £1499.
Don't forget, US retails don't have to include sales tax in prices, so that's $999+ maybe 3-8% depending on the state you buy it in. If you subtract the UK VAT rate (of 20%), the price of the device is only $30 more in the UK.
