It’s interesting how Apple seem to see Sony as their main competitor. It looks like a worthy upgrade for all the 13 owners coming out of contracts.

The placement of the shutter button is completely wrong though. It should have been much closer to the base of the phone, symmetry be damned. As it stands you have to press it in landscape with your hand blocking the view of the screen.

It's usb 3.0, at minimum.

USB 2 on the 15 was a quirk of using a previous generation processor.

Exactly this.
I understand that the average user doesn’t give a damn about a high-refresh display, but it’s 2024 and every freaking cheap android smartphone boosts a 120hz display. I’m going to remain on my iPhone 14 Pro or maybe even switch to the Pixel 9 Pro.
I recently got a Moto G Power 2024 for my Android stuff, and it's a 120hz screen almost Pro Max size. I think retail it's like $200 but I got mine WAY cheaper. I didn't think I cared about going over 60hz but now that I've gotten used to it... ugh.

iPhone 16 marks the sixth year in a row that Apple has used the same iPhone 11 design. So a more honest name for the iPhone 16 would be iPhone 11sssss.

I’ve been hearing Apple doesn’t innovate for 10 years and somehow they keep selling successful phones. I don’t know how they do it…
People are not impressed with incremental updates, they want to go big or go home.

Better small steps than no steps I guess? Make sure you've got it right and refine it as needed rather than put out something that isn't ready for prime time and leave a bad stain on the product line.

I'm downgrading from the 15 Pro Max to the 16 Plus. It has everything I need at a lower price point. I don't do professional photography, so I have all that tech for nothing, and I never go over 100 gb storage. I'll miss the 5x telephoto and always on display, but I'm okay with both. Also, I love the colors -- blue or teal for me.

Think it's about time I took the plunge.....my iPhone 8 is on its last legs. £30 trade in though isn't great. I reckon they should double that for the excellent condition I have kept it in.

Cool AI features, but not worth it to upgrade from the iPhone 15. Sad that Apple is gatekeeping the Apple Intelligence from the iPhone 15. I know AI needs more power, but they could've done it via cloud processing for the iPhone 15.
At least my iPhone 15 will be supported for many years via iOS updates. Looking forward to iOS 18! Maybe I'll consider upgrading around the iPhone 18-19 launch.

The teal iPhone 16 is a little tempting, but it's not quite enough to sway me from my iPhone SE 3 just yet. I swore I would wait until the notch/island is gone and there would be under-the-screen Touch ID, but maybe I'm just a cranky old man who yells at clouds.
Maybe consider going for the SE 4 when it comes out next year?

If I needed to upgrade from my 14 Pro right now, I would get this instead of the new Pro. The only feature it needs is 120hz but to be honest ever since I went from a 13 Pro iPad to an 11 Pro iPad I rarely use my phone for anything except calls and taking pictures, so the 60hz display wont bother me too much.

So another iPhone 11SSSSS.

Wow Apple.
I was hoping for a promotion and always on display without going for a pro model, but it seems after all these years it’s still not available.

I’ll probably be keeping my lovely white iPhone 11 for another year.

Even the new AI stuff isn’t ready for us yet anyway so I’m really not missing much.

I’m glad they moved the camera lenses back into the vertical arrangement. People may mistake my 11 for the 16.

It’s running iOS 18 beta really well. This is actually a really good advert for iPhones.

If Apple is keeping the iPhone 14 (starting at $599 for 128GB) and 14 Plus (starting at $699 for 128GB) around, what does that mean for the iPhone SE 4? Rumors suggest a 6.1 inch OLED display, A18 chip, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, sub $500 price... Why buy an iPhone 14 or 14 Plus? The same goes for the iPhone 15 (starting at $699 for 128GB) and 15 Plus (starting at $799 for 128GB).

That's why I think the iPhone SE 4 won't support Apple Intelligence.

my z fold 3 has an under display front camera, idk if they've gotten better but i don't like it on mine. you can see where it is even with the display on, i'd rather just have the cutout, and the dynamic island is actually pretty useful

I have a 13 Pro and I'm thinking of just upgrading to a regular non-pro 16. Don't really care that much about the bit better camera/microphones and paying $200 extra just for a better screen doesn't seem that worth it. Never mind that I like the colors of the non-Pro better than the very bland Pro colors.

Can someone explain why we need a physical button dedicated for performing actions already possible in the camera app’s ui?
Are they replacing the existing ui actions, so in iPhone 16 you can’t use the on-screen zoom wheel for example and have to swipe on the capacitive button instead?
Are they going to add another way to open the camera app next year? I’m counting 5 with the new button.
