Underwhelmed. I was looking forward to replacing my iPhone 12 Pro this year, but I think I'll just have the battery replaced and use it for one more year. Maybe next year they'll do better.
Rationalize your own situation however you like, but these are still great new phones.

Feels like all the changes (aluminium, the “plateau”) are all compromises for a bigger battery. I found it odd they chose to sell the bigger battery, when users actually want better battery life. Yet they were strangely vague on what that better battery life was. Presumably the new chip runs hot.

Maybe it’s just I’m getting tired of these fancy videos and miss the old more personal stage presentations but for a long time Apple fan it feels like there’s not much to get excited about any more!
Completely agree! Between the lackluster updates, videos, and leaks it’s nothing like it used to be with Jobs.

Not thrilled despite the mature market. Not having black was an insanely stupid move but I didn't read into it enough to know why they decided against it. I know a case "does the job" but come on...

Going to compare it against the 14 PM to see if it's worth the move. Most likely not but I do like to upgrade every 3 years and get some sort of $ back for my old phone.

Agreed .. and if that's the rationale, there should be no color for any phones.
Just make one of each and tell everyone to get colored cases (which they don't do).

so "awe dropping" was indeed a reference to better drop protection.

v happy about that.

one day we will never need cases at all! one day!

So you have a 4x zoom at 48 megapixels and an 8x zoom at 12 megapixels. What about in between? Will it sensor crop for 5x, 6x, 7x, etc like the main camera does? This is an important item that they have NOT clarified! The main sensor crops between 1x and 2x!

I’m wondering why Apple cut back on color profiles with this phone. Only thing I can think is it helps cut costs so they could keep the prices the same. It’s surprising there wasn’t a huge bump up with everything going on. But it is odd that some of people’s favorite options were chopped. The keynote was very much a mystery at times and still is. Why they made certain choices is unclear at this point.

At first, I didn’t like any of the colors. I still think that blue should’ve been black or dark grey in the Pro range to appeal to more people. But the orange suddenly grew on me—it reminds me of some old Sony phones, MD players, and Discmans. Very cool and adventurous.I'm gonna get the orange Pro Max even though my 16 Pro max desert gold is just 10 months old.but I like the new camera features.

Ugly design aside, the Pro range has a very bizarre and limiting choice of colors.

I own the 16 Pro Max in Desert Gold, and I’ve gotta say, I REALLY don’t like the three colors in the Pro range.

I was considering upgrading just for the camera, especially the zoom range, but I just can’t bring myself to like any of these colors.

The phones (Pro/Pro Max) themselves aren’t good looking, but I could live with that if there were better color options. Space Black? Space Grey? A light gold? Something. Silver is extremely boring, and I can’t stand anything blue, and orange is just too funky for an adult like me. I like a hint of orange—like the button on my Ultra—but a full-on giant Pro Max iPhone in orange? Can’t do it.

It’s funny how both the baseline iPhone and Air have better choices this year. I don’t know what possessed Apple this year with the Pro series.
