The 60 people who clicked "Negative" = people who are mad that they couldn't preorder or get their phone on launch day. :D

While I absolutely love my new iPhone, the man's got a point here. If this was the launch of a much hyped Android phone and it was revealed to be having issues with the screen or dropped calls, the people on this board would be laughing until they wet themselves.

Wow,
How about you help me count all the posts about the EVO 4G with the screen coming apart from the phone and see how that compares.

The difference is that most anybody that owns the iPhone really gives a cr@p about Android.

I thought the new iPhone looked like the bee's knees, but this sales of 1.7 million coupled with the possibility of all of them having a hardware issue looks more like a huge nerve-wracking perfect storm of liability rather than success. The company that can do no wrong has to do wrong eventually.

AT&T has a home cell transmitter that connects over the internet you can have for home reception. Handles 4 devices simultaneously.

The guy at the ATT store said it won't go outside the home very far. If I'm cutting the grass or sitting on on the pier, I want coverage enough to get phone calls.

Interesting, 1.7 million with a known dropped bars issue for some. Just goes to show how bad the competion phones must be.

Who has returned

With all this complaining I'm sure a lot has returned their iPhone 4. So who has ?

It seems to me that this may well be another case of complaining to get something, but at the same time still maintaining that they would fight to the death before giving up their iPhone. I know I'd gladly upgrade today even if the reports I've read are all true.

He contributes greatly to PRSI, clearly he lives for nothing other than a smartphone.

Haven't ever seen you around though...

And they trash Android and sing the praises of the iPhone. By their standards, their life must be just as sad as mine ;)

We don't have an accurate number of problematic handsets though - all we have is the vocal minority. Nobody is even close to suggesting that every iPhone sale or even a huge majority are defective. You cannot just look at a situation by looking at all of the people who are having problems. You might as well take a look at a busy hospital and be concerned about a pandemic only to find out that only a small number of the total population is actually there.

The iPhone 4 has sold 1.7 million units. Just one percent of that is 17,000. In the grand scale of things, that is a tiny number. The problem is that all we hear from are those 17,000. We don't yet have a large enough sample size to base any conclusions from this.

I don't doubt that something is going on. To say otherwise is naive. But it's best to have a sense of scale and understanding before we cry gloom and doom. Let's face it, all companies have problems on their first run. Heck, look at MS and their RROD problem that has cost them huge amounts of money. Despite that, they still sell tons of units - and that is a genuine defect.

If anybody suffers any notion that Apple is a company that can do no wrong, they obviously don't know anything about Apple and are not a good judge of things.

Or people who want one, but can't afford one, and decide to come on here and bitch.

Trust me, it's a common trait of Apple haters on another forum I use. It reeks from some people.

So a phone that drops calls when you touch it is a success?

I'd say 1.7 million units at a projection profit of a half billion is a success.

Said best from the fashion business, "You laughed at it, you scoffed it, you bought it!"

Yes a success, this antenna issue is not a problem. It is an "Semi-voluntary user selectable attenuation feature."

Stay tuned!

It's cool, I've found the only really good parts of this site are PRSI and the mac sections. Other than that its nothing but pointless bitching and uninformed conclusions from all sides.

...step backward and I refuse to accept Apple’s terms or recommended solution of paying Apple $30 more for their branded bumper so to make a call. This is absolutely ridiculous and untenable position for Apple as Jobs whole CREDIBITITY at the line.

I appreciate that Apple's (and Jobs') communication -style is irritating when you have a defective phone in your hands, but AFAIK Jobs' last communication ended with "Stay tuned.", and this suggests that a fix is on its way :)

Verizonb already

I want to buy the iPhone, but I'm not going to if I have to go with AT&T's network. Just to many drop calls and issues there. Especially with AT&T doing a 360 on plans. Why is Apple so adamant about staying with AT&T with the horrible service AT&T's network is providing.

I have a MacBook Pro, iPad and iPod, I getting a iMac soon and would love to add the iPhone 4, the only thing holding me back is AT&T's unreliable network service.

Apple would make a killing if the open it up to the other service providers. Windows Mobile 7 would go the way of the courier or Jamestown.

I don't know, maybe it's time for Steve Jobs to retire.

G-

cool, but not sure how this is in 3 days if it includes the pre-orders that went up on jun 15th... so it sold 1.7 m in 2 weeks

still good numbers

I was an early adopter of the original iPhone and the 3G when it was released and never had reception issues in my area (Montgomery, AL) but when I moved to VA I couldn't hold a phone call or get data access - all inside a "coverage area" that AT&T claims with their supposed coverage map (23601). Did AT&T customer service care that I couldn't get reception in an area they claimed was covered? No. So, after having my account with AT&T/Cingular/AT&T Wireless for almost 7 years I cancelled my contract and went with Verizon. Until I either move or Verizon gets the iPhone I'll be using something else, unsatisfied. Who knows, maybe I'll take the iPhone 4 for a spin and return it if I still don't get service with the "new" antenna.

Android and the proof of concept malware.

These Android wannabe's just want you to get an Android so they can hack away at your privacy. This is what you get when they realise they've absolutley been blown away by the iPhone 4.

Android guy's, get over it. You lost, we won. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Android and was kinda worried with the Desire/Nexus but now the iPhone 4's here, worries gone!

Hey, seriously. If your still thinking Android/:apple: read on: -

Quote, MacRumors about Android malware.
The removed apps were said to be a theoretical demonstration of how to create a "botnet" of hijacked phones.
By cloaking an application capable of "fetching" new exploit code at will in a fake application offering preview pictures of the upcoming "Twilight Eclipse" film, he tricked more than 300 users into downloading the software. The lesson: a less friendly developer could have used that bait and switch to plant malware on users' devices.

It's like Windows all over again, only Windows HAVE to clear up their act. Google only just started.. Choose wisely ;-)

Android is a great platform. Does a lot of cool things, I'm sure its customers are very happy with their phones.

However, what's the point of these android fans posting in this thread about iPhone issues other than to be *******s? Says more about their insecurities than it does about the iPhone.

Android has taken evangelism to epic new heights. You can't even think the word "iPhone" without a swarm of Android proponents rushing in and telling you how much better their "free and open" (*snicker*) platform is (never acknowledging, of course, that Google is paying for that "free" by mining their data so they can sell them advertising).

While I'm rational enough to realize that Apple is a selfish corporation with the sole mission of selling me stuff, i.e. profit (as businesses should be), I'm also rational enough to see Google in exactly the same light. The Fandroid Army, on the other hand, firmly believes that Android exists as a generous gift from their benevolent dictator (Google).

Apple = bad guy. Google = good guy.

I have to hand it to Google for such an impressive PR coup.
