A rose is a rose is a rose. But I think a better naming system would be this:
iPhone
iPhone X Pro
iPhone X Pro Plus

They look good tho. Love the faster bionic 12 & new camera & battery improvements.

Iphone X Pro Plus.

Pro Plus because all the light from the huge screen stops you falling asleep? :D

That comparison is WAY off.

That's the ONE thing not to be worried about with these phones.

I dunno, at the start of different materials becoming recycled the quality went down big time. Thankfully they have made big improvements since then. I'm very likely wrong but seen it in the past where environmentally friendly wasn't the same quality. Like the Santa Rosa Mbp gpu failures.

Love all the complaining. My real favorite one is "glad I waited and skipped the beta test since this is what the X should've been." Yeah, except a year passed and I got to use a phone I loved? Logic evades some people so easily, it's amazing.

The only disappointing thing for me was that it's still a 12MP camera, but other than that, the chip is really impressive and I think I might have to get the 6.5" because that screen just looks ridiculous. I like the True Tone also. The only thing that is completely stupid that doesn't have to do with the phone itself is that they still include the slowest charger ever along with a USB-A cable in the box when it's been a couple years since they ditched USB-A on their notebooks.

Are they active dual sim?

Keen to understand the battery implications of dual sim - any ideas?

it's an eSim, so i can't imagine there would be significant changes to batt, but i'm no expert whatsoever, just happy to be able to use two sims finally.

US$999/1149/1349 for the XS and US$1099/1249/1449 for the XS Max...

So...this phone is going to cost me more than my Macbook did...wow.

$2,049 in Oz for a Max 256GB. $2,369 for a 512GB. Jeeeeesus. Plus $300 more for AC. What is going on.

I get the new phone every year. I can't think of a single reason to buy this year except the larger size.
I'm actually in shock at the lack of new features.
Maybe we hit a plateau, who knows.

I'm right there with you this year. I am usually excited to get a new device but I can't find a single reason to get rid of my X that still has another year of AppleCare+ left.

I am surprised they ditched 3D touch on the XR. I love it as a feature, but it must not have caught on.

If you are on one of the upgrade plans be sure you are upgrade eligible! I have an iPhone X with AT&T so I had to give them $95 to allow my phone to be upgraded next week under the payment plan.

I think i shall spend the €1400 that I would on an XS Max on the hopefully nice "cheap" macbook next month or two.. pretty nuts price for a phone.

You can actually do this right now using apps like Focos on any iPhone with a dual camera. You can even change the focal point and change the bokeh. So this is definitely not something Apple invented, as they implied. The Lytro field camera was released in 2012. Steve Jobs supposedly met with the founder of Lytro back then to discuss how the technology might be used to improve the iPhone camera system. Lytro went under earlier this year, but of course the technology they pioneered is becoming more popular.

Lytro is (was) completely different tech than what’s in the current iPhone. Lytro actually collect the light field information in a given photo - not only could you change depth of field, you could actually change the focus of the pic. The problem Lytro ran into was two fold - as result of how it collected light information the overall resolution of photos was fairly low, and two, the tech was extremely expensive, and most photographers were (are) completely fine with choosing their focus subject at the beginning, not the end.

What the iPhone XS is doing is drastically different than light field collection. Your can’t change the focus, just the depth of field, and this is occurring in software, not hardware.

What a boring keynote! The watch is the only highlight! When Phil said the battery is 30 mins longer, I started laughing! Seriously?! Now we’re in the minute department haha
What’s next? The battery lasts 5 more mins compared to the last year model. Probably the most sterile keynote in years! I can’t believe they didn’t drop the XS to $899! The X was already overpriced last year, now the XS is even more overpriced! The upgrades are so incremental.
30 mins is in "don't mention, let it be a nice surprise" territory. The fact they did mention it screams filler to me. Just like 95% of the rest of the event.

It's a real shame, because the event's intro video really kicked ass. Loved that bit and it's the kind of comedy I want to see Apple use more in future keynotes.

Yeah, it does drain more battery, but it's not THAT bad on Android. Obviously this is a first for iOS, so you'll have to wait and see how iOS handles this and the phone itself, but I'd say it's a good thing for traveling and roaming for cheap whilst still staying connected on your main home country line.

Once you have an iPad as well though you begin to look up devices like MiFis and stuff and communication is usually data-based these days anyways, so the gain is secondary. ymmv.

At home obviously you can mix and match a cheap data with a cheap main (minutes) plan, that's something that many Android users do.

I don't want to be negative but I've never seen a new iPhone with so few new features. The S line might have always kept the same exterior design in the past but at least there was some big new feature. These phones have absolutely no new features apart from the post-processing bokeh. They kept saying about all these new innovations that the A12 chip enables but in the end they didn't announce a single new feature. The design is great, the phones are the most beautiful on the market and I'm sure they are also the fastest but compared to the X there is absolutely nothing new. They even devoted half an hour on the cameras despite the fact that all new additions were minor and software only.

Faster FaceID. Oh boy.
It is a little telling that they didn't spend an hour on how upgraded the camera is.
I thought I never would say this.. Wait for next year's phone if you have an iPhone X now.

Im waiting and I have an iPhone 7.

And 64gb..come on apple. I know they want to force people to buy the bigger memory sizes but come on.

Also, the "this is the most advanced iPhone ever" is stupid. OFF COURSE it is, its the latest one you made isn't it??

Holy c***balls, the maxed out Xs Max 512GB will cost ya a cool $1,450. They spared us the shellshock of that price tag in the presentation...

What in the actual f***. That's priced into the range of a full fledged, powerful laptop.
no its not you forgot to take in account apple care!

Hoping the X display goes down $50 from $279 I think it was for a replacement since I have a small crack on mine in the lower corner.

Only thing that might be a silver lining today.

It certainly seems like it. Every upgrade doesn't really add much these days. Too many faux selling points such as the quality of the steel or fancy colors that will never be seen due to cases anyway.

What kind of features would be cool to see though? Cant really think of anything apart from truly better battery life.

same here. i basically have the plan at verizon where i upgrade every year and the "lease" price is baked into my monthly so since i have more money than brains i'll continue but this is the smallest hardware upgrade since my first iPhone, the 3G. clearly this year is about filling out the lineup with the new Face ID interface with the XS Max and XR. i'm sure a lot of Plus users and slightly more budget tight folks are happier than us X users.
