Apple Announces 'iPhone XS' and 'iPhone XS Max' With Gold Color, Faster Face ID, and More

These names, I can’t even.

Apple just got eviscerated over at Digital Trends: https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/apple-iphone-names/

They should have taken the opportunity to simplify the iPhone naming scheme going forward.

iPhone Xr could have been just “iPhone”.

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max (holy hell...) could have just both been “iPhone Pro.”

Do we really need all these names with different letters, numbers, numerals, and words?

Just to give you a mental guide on whether this pricing is in any way reasonable.

Oh and a Note 9 can be configured to 1TB of storage. Yes, one half will be a little less speedy microSDXC storage, but for media, which is what really pushes those hundreds of GB that is PLENTY fast enough.

the Samsungs can do DEX mode. This feature is actualy USEFUL. But seriously, the camera speeds on iPhones are much better. That A12 is superior but man, all that power and no real way to harness it. The pricing is just too insane for a smartphone that can take good pictures and do emojis. Ridiculously expensive!

So in general,

iPhone XS .. if you want an iPhone that's very compact and loaded with latest tech and cameras
iPhone XS Max .. if you want an iPhone that's bold and stand out and you need to impress someone
iPhone XR .. if you want an iPhone that works with latest true depth camera, decent battery life, not really care about photography and still want the latest chip with the optimum 128GB storage

Yeah, iPhone XR seems like the best deal for me.

Is it just me or was the wait for the introduction of the new iPhones more exciting than the introduction itself? Not sure if the new phones arent that exciting or all the leaks ruined it for me. So basically, the biggest update is the new screen size (6.5) and perhaps the camera, but we’ll have to wait for camera comparison first. I honestly expected more :S And what happened to those rumored 699/899/999 prices? Oh well
 
Apple SE dropped!!!
Apple SE is still listed on the "iPhone/Compare" menu but when you click on it, it is no longer for sale thru Apple. It suggests you contact a "reseller". What!!!??? I have a 4S and was holding off on the SE in case a SE2 was announced. Hope I'll still be able to get a SE...

I would change milking with gauging - the MAX with a 512MB is past laptop pricing at an insane $1,449

Apple is getting away with doing this because they are getting bailed out by the carriers with installment plans - if you people had to pay for these phones at full prices I doubt they would sell as well.

I have no comparison of the camera speed in real life, but what I have seen the Note 9 accomplish certainly tells me it's still a premium grade experience and the surcharge for the iPhone is in every way unjustified.

If anything, if this insanity doesn't stop my next iPhone, which I guess I'm still semi-forced to get, will absolutely be an older model during a sale or used, no way in hell will I entertain this ridiculous upselling game.

And here I was thinking the event could be a little interesting with some rumored new Macbooks which I'm in the market for. I just want something relatively cheap with Retina to replace my ever so less intense Mac workflows as I move to Windows for heavy lifting.

Since my iMac 2011 is not going to get Mojave I'll rock it until I find a decent way to replace its function as main Mac, I'll keep it nice and old for Aperture. You know, that application that serves more than magic button needs.

did they go over the yearly SPEED BUMP specs or anything like that?
from iPhone X -> Xs or XsMAX or Xr (not sure there is any real difference between the 2018 phone hardware specs as far as chipset).

The S years are all about internal upgrades - which this received a ton of. The A12 sounds like a beast, and the new camera abilities are really nice - like being able to change the depth of field after the picture is taken, that is just amazing. The new neural engine should hopefully help to improve Siri among other things and faster FaceID is always welcome.

The iPhone Xs is nearly identical to the iPhone X except for a slight speed increase, additional camera functionality (same lenses though), an additional color option, and a higher top storage capacity.

The A12 is barely faster than an A11 and will be indistinguishable to the user.

Did you guys really expect they'd be cheaper? The prices are in line with the X price last year. The only difference is, there's nothing new on this years models except a minor speed bump. For those with the X it's not worth to upgrade. For those with a 7/8 it is. If you don't need any of the new stuff the X introduced, simply stick to 7/8. Apple Watch 4 looks pretty cool, but no new AirPods.

Sigh, really wish my fiancé didn't want one of these for her upcoming birthday. But she doesn't want to learn anything else and she deserves it. She is still using the 6.
